Kyle Imhoff has been the Pennsylvania State Climatologist since 2015 and joined the Climate Office in 2011. In addition to long-range forecasting, Kyle’s research interests include numerical weather prediction, weather risk assessment, and decision support tool development. Kyle is a member of the American Association of State Climatologists and teaches courses in weather forecasting and climate studies.

9:15–9:45 am Glyphosate in the environment: understanding hazards and risk – Dr. John Wallace

John Wallace is an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist for weed management in field and forage crops. Dr. Wallace’s extension-research program focuses on (1) best management practices for new herbicide and weed control technologies, (2) development of pro-active, herbicide resistance management strategies, (3) weed management strategies in cover-crop based conservation tillage systems, and (4) organic weed management practices for full- and reduced- tillage systems.

9:45–10:30 am Hay the Lazy Way – Nevada Mease

Nevada Mease has been making hay and servicing the equine market since 1995. He has attended the Alfalfa Intensive Training Seminar, TEPAP (The Executive Program for Agriculture Producers) and Strategic Coach after receiving a degree from DeSales University in 2001. Nevada currently serves on the board of directors for the National Hay Association. Nevada’s activity in the NHA has

exposed him to a variety of domestic and export hay operations that he will be discussing today.

Dr. Michael Flythe is Research Leader of the Forage-Animal Production Research Unit, a USDA-ARS team located at the University of Kentucky. Their mission is to improve the productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability of forage-based enterprises within the transition zone between the subtropical southeast and temperate northeast.

Eugene P. Law is a PhD candidate in the field of Soil and Crop Sciences with an emphasis on Agronomy and Applied Economics at Cornell University. His research focuses on sustainable agriculture and food systems; he is currently working on a variety of projects developing perennial small grain cropping systems and local food value chains in collaboration with New York farmers, millers, and bakers. Eugene is a SUNY Diversity Fellow, a Cornell University Center for Teaching Innovation Graduate Teaching Fellow, and a Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability Research Fellow.

Dr. Brittany Harlow is a post-doctoral research animal scientist at the USDA-ARS, Forage-Animal Production Research Unit in Lexington, Kentucky.

Red clover is often included in grazing systems to improve pasture quality and animal performance by increasing nitrogen availability. Red clover also contains a class of chemicals, isoflavones, that we have recently discovered could positively influence rumen digestion and cattle performance in multiple stages of the beef cattle production system. This talk will discuss our past and ongoing research with red clover and potential future applications for the beef cattle industry.

Jerome is the Forage Specialist for DLF Pickseed, and has the direct sales responsibility for several of DLF’s major forage seed customers in North America. Prior to joining DLF in 2009, Jerome was the PNW Forage Specialist and Territory Manager for Land O’ Lakes Seed Division. Empowered with B.S. degree in Animal Science, a B.A. degree in French, and M. of Agriculture in Ruminant Nutrition from Oregon State University; Jerome worked as an OSU Extension Agent in SW Oregon for 7 years.
