Attendance Rewards As per last Term, all individual students across the school that have attended on a daily basis for Term Two at 95% or better will receive a Pancake Breakfast early next Term. Attendance for Term Two will be checked after the completion of the last day of Term (29 June) and all eligible individual students will be finalised over the holiday period.
Kind Regards David
From the Deputy Principal
What a wonderful week at Fernvale! It has been a pleasure to be reading our students’ Academic Report cards. These reports will be coming home on Wednesday 27 June. It is such a joy to read the ways that teachers are catering for our student’s individual needs. As we know all children develop and progress at individual rates and reporting provides a snapshot of where you child is now. Each child enrolled at Fernvale is on their own individual learning journey. They will need different things at different times. Our teachers work hard to ensure they are meeting the needs of individual children and respecting the confidentiality of the children and families in their care. Looking in it may not always look equal but it is always equitable. I do love the following picture as it clearly illustrates that the ‘one size fits all’ model does not allow everyone access to the game.
From the Deputy Principal
At Fernvale the wellbeing and success of all our students is at the core of everything we do! This week in learning our lovely Prep S have been scientists! We have been investigating the types of materials that different objects are made out of and testing the water resistance of each material.
Just a reminder that enrolments for Prep 2019 are open. Enrolment Packages are available at the Office along with a list of date claimers for our events across semester 2. Is my child eligible? Friends of Wakakirri Well we are heading into the home stretch. The cast has been working hard and the performance is really coming together. Tuesday’s lunchtime rehearsal this week will have to be moved to Wednesday lunchtime to fit in with Sports Day but Thursday afternoon will go ahead as normal. URGENT REMINDER about tickets. We have to send our school ticket order in to the Logan Entertainment Centre on Wednesday 20th June, this week, so if you haven’t yet purchased your tickets and would like to come along please put your order in by Tuesday afternoon. We can’t accept any late orders because once it goes in it is out of our hands. WORKING BEE – Our next working bee will be next Sunday 24th June in E Block from 10am. We will be looking to get our sets, props and costumes finalised or at least well underway so the cast can start using them in rehearsals. Any help is appreciated and it is a great way to share the Wakakirri experience with your kids. Costume lists will be coming out this week also. Can you please check through the list and let us know what you have or haven’t got so we can start searching and sourcing pieces. Regards The Wakakirri Team. Inclusive Education Workshop – Positive Behaviour for Learning :
Meaningful Home/School Engagement
Wednesday 27th
June, 2018
9.30m – 12.30pm
Brisbane Event - Woolloongabba
Community Resource Unit Ltd
Presented by Dr Lisa Bridle
Guest Presenter Dr Shiralee Poed
Cost: $30 (Includes morning tea)
About the Workshop:
Have you heard of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)?
Has your child’s school mentioned a Positive Behaviour Plan?
“Behaviour” is a focus of discussion for many parents and educators, and can be a source of considerable
angst and concern. Where behaviour is not well understood and students do not receive appropriate
support, it can undermine student engagement in learning. To achieve successful inclusion, it is critical
that families and schools achieve productive conversations towards approaches which support rather than
punish or exclude.
In this presentation, we will discuss the ways schools use PB4L to support student behaviour,
engagement, and learning. Suggestions for how schools and families could meaningfully engage will
also be discussed. This presentation is appropriate for parents who have their child enrolled, or soon to
enrol, in a Government, Catholic or Independent school.
About the Presenter:
Dr Shiralee Poed is a Senior Lecturer at the Melbourne Graduate School of
Education, at the University of Melbourne.
For almost 30 years, Shiralee has worked as a teacher in Australian state, Catholic
and independent primary, secondary and special schools, as well as in various senior
educational roles. Prior to commencing at the University of Melbourne in 2011,
Shiralee was a lecturer in the School of Education and Professional Studies at
Griffith University, Queensland.
Shiralee's research interests include disability discrimination in education, reducing
the use of restrictive interventions, and using Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports with
fidelity. She is also a member of the Academic Advisory Panel of All Means All Australian Alliance for
Inclusive Education.
