There’s quite a lot of hype going around about “not sounding salesy” and it’s sad that a lot of people are misapplying those teachings… and staying broke. Of course none of us want to sound like scummy salespeople, but the words you’re using aren’t the enemy. The headlines and copy you’re writing are not the enemy. If you’re in businesses to make money, giving up on certain words and strategies and methods is NOT the answer. It’s pretty simple to not “sound salesy” – You just need to talk to right people, and offer them the things they need. So “authentic marketing” and all of that stuff you hear is NOT about reinventing marketing... it’s more about reinventing yourself. It’s more of a call for YOU to be authentic, for YOU to be genuine, for YOU to give real value. It’s not a call to stop marketing and stop selling. The plain and simple truth is that there are Words That Work and then there are all the other words. The right words really help you express what you have to offer in a way that really hits home with your ideal client. Certain words help to evoke emotions and vivid mental pictures. So smart entrepreneurs actually study and draw inspiration from great copy that works. I’m not talking about copy that you personally think is great. I’m talking about drawing inspiration from marketing copy that has actually proven its effectiveness by actually working as intended. Like a sales page or a product launch that brought in millions and millions of dollars in sales, time and time again like clockwork.

The Winning Combo - Words that Work, Mixed With Real Care and Real Solutions So a lot of these words will be familiar to you from some slimeball marketers you may have encountered in the past. And that’s going to be normal and expected, because as mentioned, these are words that are tested and proven to work. So I want to caution you that as you read through this list of words, you may get mixed feelings. If you skim over the words and read them fast without thinking about your ideal client, without thinking about your offerings, without thinking about how you want to help folks… you might get a first reaction of, “ICK!” I know I did. But what I want you to do is read through these words with your heart and mind open. Read through these words while tapping into what your ideal client really wants and needs and thinking of them. Think about the results your clients will get from working with you. Most of all be honest with yourself. The words aren’t bad in and of themselves. The words are only bad if you’re lying with them. For example, if your free offer you give for your opt-in is common knowledge and general tips, don’t say that people can download this “Breakthrough New Formula”. If it’s not breakthrough, don’t say it is. But if it’s amazing, proven, effective and all that good stuff, then use those words. Get the point? If certain words don’t feel right to you, don’t fit your personality, or don’t fit with the real results your clients will get, then don’t use those words. Choose words that are honest and true to you and your business and you can’t go wrong. You’ll be a money-making, world-changing machine!

Here are a few additional tips on how to use the words: Be Different: A lot of folks have the tendency to follow what everyone else is doing. This is not a good idea. There are plenty of words that are proven to work. Try not to use the same exact words that everyone else is using in their headlines and program names. The worn-out and common expressions that have been used over and over again lack the important headline requirement of stop-ability. Be Weird: Add a little twist to what you’re doing. Infuse your personality. Do something that’s slightly off-kilter. Out of the ordinary words, phrases, questions and combinations are naturally interruptive, capturing the attention and arousing the curiosity of the person scanning your words. It gets noticed. Shock Factor: Some words are just good solely for their shock value because they stop readers in their tracks. You demand attention by using words and phrases not normally associated with your type of business, product, service or industry standards.
