THE PULLERCONTROL

Programming KeypadFlip open the bottom control cover to reveal theprogramming keypad.

Four-Digit DisplayWhen programming the control, the four-digit displayshows control settings. During normal operation, itdisplays either setpoint or actual speed (tach). Bothsetpoint and actual speed are expressed as eitherlinear speed (ft/min or cm/min) or rpm.

Speed ButtonsUse the Set Speed button to enterand monitor the setpoint speed.Pressing the Tach button displaysthe actual speed. When you selectone of these, the LED in the cornerof the button lights. Either SetSpeed or Tach is active at all times.NOTE: The actual speed shown isthe average speed. It is updatedonce every second.

Data Entry ButtonsThe Clear button deletes the valueshowing on the digital display thatyou have just entered. The Enterbutton to confirms and accepts datavalues.

Scroll ButtonsUse the Up and Down scroll buttons to adjust the active setpointdisplayed on the digital display byone engineering unit. These buttonsare always enabled.

Code Select ButtonUse this button to enter thedesired programming code.

Two-Digit DisplayThe two-digit displayshows the active programming code.

Numeric KeypadUse the numeric keypad toaccess control parameters, adjust program settingsand change the setpointspeed.

Code Select LEDsThe LED next to the codelights when that code isselected. These are not rel-evant when the MasterScaling format is used.

The M-Trim control is an optional operator interface for the beltpuller. Instructions for any optional controls can be found in theAppendix of this User Guide.

The M-Trim control has about 55 programmable control parameters. Some of these parameters are set by Conair asdefault values and others are set specifically for this puller.

You should verify that these parameter settings match thedefault parameter codes listed inside the flip-down cover ofthe control and in the Control Settings section of this manual.

You also should record any changes you make to these settings in the blanks provided in the Control Settings sectionin the back of this attachment. You will need this informationto return to normal operation if the M-Trim control memory isever corrupted by electrical noise, surges, etc.

The current value of each parameter is stored in memory andrecovered on startup. While the control can be reset to factory-default settings, any information specific to your puller will belost unless you maintain a copy of the values you have set.

VERIFYINGPROGRAMMEDCONTROLVALUES

Turn on the puller by turning the main disconnect tothe ON position. The microprocessor performs a self-diagnostic test (about 2 seconds) then enters the defaultSTOP state:

Speed Command output = zero (Parameters and setpoints are recoveredfrom memory)

Open the controller's flip-down cover to view the programming keypad.

Press the Code Select button (the LED lights)and enter the two-digit parameter code. Refer to theControl Settings section in the back of this attachment fora complete list of parameter codes, descriptions, and set-tings.

Press the Enter button. The two-digit program code displays in the lower LEDwindow. The current value for that code displays in theupper LED window. The LED light on the Code Selectbutton goes out when you press the Enter button.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 to compare the value in the upper display to the value listed in the Control Settingssection of this manual.

Continue to press the Enter button to view all the parameter codes. If any values differ from what is listed in the Control Settings section of this manual, con-tact Conair Service immediately.

VIEWING ACTUALPULLER SPEED

To view the actual speed of the puller during operation, pressthe Tach button on the control.

The LED in the corner of the Tachbutton lights.

The Display changes to the actualspeed of the puller, and is updatedevery 1 to 2 seconds.

Press the Set Speed button on the control.

The LED in the corner of the SetSpeed button lights.

 The numeric keypad is enabled.

Enter the desired setpoint inft/min or rpm. If necessary, press the Clear to deleteany errors.

Press the Enter button toaccept the new setpoint. The new setpoint displays.

Use the Up or Down arrow to adjust the setpoint. The setpointadjusts by one engineering unit each time an arrow is pressed.

If the Tach button is active, theactual speed gradually changes tothe new value.

If the Set Speed button is active, the setpoint changes immediately.

NOTE: These keys are always enabledto change the active setpoint. Becausethey provide only slow scroll speeds, use them for fine tuning.

To restore default memory settings:

Turn OFF power to the puller.

While simultaneously pressing the Clear and the 7on the numeric keypad, turn the power ON.

The factory default settings are restored. The M-Trim control performs the power up routine.

Set any user-specific memory settings after you have restoredthe default memory settings. Using the Control Settings foundon the tables in Appendix D-1, restore your control to it’s nor-mal operating state:

Open the flap at the bottom of the M-Trim control.

Press the Control Select button.

Enter the desired two-digit code number (from the control settings section located in the back ofthis attachment.)

Press the Enter button.

The two-digit code displays in the lower digital display.

The current parameter value displays in the upperdigital display.

 The numeric keypad is enabled.

If necessary, use the numeric keypad to enter a new value.

PID (Proportional, Integral, Differential) tuning is the processof setting the M-TRIM control algorithm parameters (codes65-69) to achieve optimum performance. While each puller istuned before shipment to optimize performance over the entirespeed range, customers may wish to tune the puller for theirspecific operating conditions.
