Mission and Ministry in the Diocese of Exeter
The Mission and Ministry Department seeks to support the work of our Mission Communities across the Diocese as they live out our vision to Grow in Prayer, Make New Disciples and Serve the people of Devon with joy. We work as a collaborative and highly supportive team covering training for clergy and laity, and support for evangelism children’s and youth work, vocations advice. We also work in close collaboration with our Mission Resources Advisor and Growing the Rural Church Team. We don’t have all of the answers but we are enthusiastic, hardworking, caring and good fun. We drink lots of coffee, pray, drive quite a few miles and count it a privilege to be involved in this work.
We are committed to support local worshipping communities as they seek to work collaboratively and to be outward looking. We now want to augment our team in order to support lay ministry and help our mission communities to develop their vision following through good intentions into realistic action. The Mission Community Development team ( part of the Mission and Ministry department) will have a vital role in helping Mission Communities (groups of parishes working together). In liaison with Archdeacons and Bishops, we intend to identify priorities for development. These will include parishes where there is a transition between incumbents. The Mission Community Development Advisor will work with these parishes to help them to focus vision and to support them as they seek to implement a plan over time. The team will liaise closely with other diocesan officers so that parishes are offered appropriate support.
The team leader will work with one of our four Archdeaconries, but will also ensure a consistent approach across a diverse team of lay and ordained colleagues. One half time advisor is in post. The newly appointed team leader will be involved in appointing the remaining two 0.5 post holders.
We are also seeking a project officer to facilitate the development of a comprehensive lay training programme at local level across the diocese. Lots of the pieces of this jigsaw are here in Devon. We are keen to see them joined up.
