Compelling events Your company has just acquired another
organization and now has to integrate its
technology landscape. You have been given
the task of taking capital and operational
expense out of your IT systems and applica-
tions. Regulatory change has just made it
imperative to clarify business processes and
deliver on granular technology reporting.
Customer change and competitor threats
mean you have to realize a much more man-
ageable and agile technology environment.
Every leader of business or technology
dreams of a world that is simple to manage
and adapt. Too often, consolidation projects
try to create that world by inventing new
processes or forcing new technology para-
digms. But there is a better, middle way –
by using existing applications as your mirror
to the business, you can consolidate redun-
dant software, identify best business pro-
cesses and harmonize your entire perfor-
mance.
A middle way
The exact relationship between business
and technology is difficult to identify and
always changing. To date, consolidation
approaches have taken two contrasting
routes – by inventing a new set of ideal
business processes, and by creating a
new infrastructure paradigm from the
bottom up. But our experience within the
world’s most complex projects has taught
us one thing – work with what you’ve
got.
Taking a middle way towards consolida-
tion by using your application layer to
understand your business needs and po-
tential is not only more realistic – but far
more rewarding.
The widening gap Consolidating technology and
harmonizing business is some-
thing all organizations across
the public-private divide must
realize in order to evolve and
grow. Without integration of
this kind, the gap between your
applications and your processes
would open up so wide as to
prevent effective functioning or
strategic execution. But consol-
idation and harmonization is no
plug and play affair – often
involving many years and large
sums of money to no measura-
ble purpose. That is why identi-
fying a pragmatic approach
from the outset is so critical.
Complexity to Simplicity There are number of compelling events that drive the need for consolida-tion – and once you start strategising your solution, you begin to appreci-ate the vast complexity and intricate interdependencies facing you.

Our approach to Infrastructure, Applications and Process Harmonisation
Our solution ERP Consolidation and Harmonisation involves the transformation of a heterogeneous landscape (infrastructure, applications and business pro-cesses) into harmonised SAP environment. This approach is unique value to our customer providing systematic global strategy that not only reduc-es total cost of ownership but also creates an optimal shared platform for business agility and profitable growth.
Our Services Our services adopt a “one team, one stand-
ard” approach and combine exce lent solu-
tion consulting skills with our global and
local resources, proven tools and a compre-
hensive methodology that harmonizes your
end-to-end processes and is designed to fit
your exact level of process and IT needs.
The portfolio we have developed is holis-
tic, while the services themselves are mod-
ular. We provide an exact fit to your re-
quirements by bringing together exactly
the right services to create the greatest pos-
sible value.
Template design and build
This phase starts with the analysis of
the existing systems and processes,
where we identify new system require-
ments. We utilize best practice process-
es based on industry specific reference
process houses, best practice standards
and preconfigured SAP template solu-
tions to identify the to-be model for
your processes. The template is subse-
quently implemented as a test or pilot
system.
Compliance Intelligent The increasing legal and regulato-
ry requirements imposed by gov-
ernment authorities have created a
demand for the development of
strict internal control systems. In
line with the company’s SAP
solutions, we employ business
process controls that extract, de-
tect, and inform in order to pre-
vent compliance violations. We
offer a system that automatically
extracts data from production
ERP systems based on a rule set
to detect possible compliance
violations, and also customize the
systems to prevent transaction mi
handling, for example generation
of payment orders without pur-
chase order.
Global Rollout This phase follows template design and build. The essential elements of project rollout
preparation include gap-fit workshops, documentation of local legal requirements and
confirmation of global solution enhancements. The rollout in different countries and
organization al units, however, generally requires different approaches in managing
master data and local processes. In this phase, the data migration procedures established
in the pilot rollout are utilized and optimised.
Learning Solutions
One of the most important
steps in gaining acceptance of
the new SAP system is the
selection of the appropriate
learning solution. Atos offers
the design, content develop-
ment and execution of the
training program using various
training methods such as train
the trainer, web-based trai-
ning, onsite training, portal
solutions and learning portal
solutions. We reinforce the
success of training by offering
user performance support, a
tool that enhances the training
platform and the required con-
tent throughout the system’s
lifecycle

Making consolidation pay The conventional approach to IT consolidation was to squeeze as much cash out of the system without damaging the business functionality. Con-solidation is still a cost issue, but now has evolved into much large value creating venture.
Unlocking existing potential
Let’s face it – no one enters consolidation projects lightly.
Hugely demanding in terms of time, resources and invest-
ment, they can drag on for ages and very often fail to deliv-
er expected outcomes. We believe we’ve found a better
way to make your projects pay off – by limiting your expo-
sure to risk and concentrating on what your business is
trying to tell you through its technology usage patterns. It’s
not just about cutting cost – it’s really about discovering
hidden value.
Talking Numbers
The Atos approach to consolidation and harmonization has
already been responsible for some very impressive efficien-
cy numbers. Varying due to client governance and land-
scape conditions, these have ranged from 10 to 50% of ap-
plication-related IT costs. Plus cost reductions of between
10 and 60% for data centre operations. Plus cost reductions
from 20 to 70% for application management, with template
harmonization levels reaching 90% and rollouts executed
within program defined schedule.
Process sweet spot
These are impressive results in any leader’s language. But what we are most excited about are the core business improve-
ments customers are experiencing due to consolidation and harmonization. One of the world’s leading automotive manufac-
turers, for example, now enjoys one common basic financing and controlling process throughout its global network. That
involves not only IT cost reduction but, much more significantly, it is driving faster reporting and better executive decision
making.
Consolidating infrastructure & applications and harmonising processes in this way has turned system integration into busi-
ness strategy.
Global Delivery Network
Atos has a strong 11,000 SAP
consultant team globally. Atos
has strategically developed
large offshore Application de-
livery and application manage-
ment centers, to focus on serv-
ing large-scale implementations
and off shore developments.
We have gained localisation
know-how through projects
undertaken globally which is
well respected and appreciated,
even by SAP.
