ATOM

Page 4: Atomic Structure

Fold down front page (Atom Page) of booklet.

On back of (Atom Page) write following items:

• Atoms are made of a nucleus and an electron cloud.

• Nucleus – center of atom, location of protons & neutrons, contains most of atom’s mass.

• Electron cloud – location of electrons in electron orbitals ( electron paths).

Page 5: Atomic Structure

On the “Neutron” page of the booklet, write the following items.

• Located in the atomic nucleus

• Neutral, no charged particles

• Mass of each particle = 1

• Atomic Mass of element – no. of protons = no. of neutrons

Page 6: Atomic Structure

On the “Protons” page of the booklet, write the following items.

• Located in the atomic nucleus

• Positively (+) charged particles

• Mass of each particle = 1

• Atomic no. of element = number of protons

Page 7: Atomic Structure

On the “Electrons” page of the booklet, write the following items.

• Located in the electron cloud

• Negatively (-) charged particles

• Mass of each particle = 0

• Number of electrons = number of protons

• Symbol: e-

Color the Following:

“Electron” tab & (e-) on Atom model: YELLOW

“Proton” tab & protons on model: RED

“Neutron” tab & neutrons on model: BLUE

Label Charges on Atom Model

• Beside each electron: write, “(-) charge”

• Beside each proton: write, “(+) charge”

• Beside each neutron: write, “neutral”
