Ken Hudson, leader of Preston Council, said the statue could help put Preston on the map likethe Angel of the North, an iconic 66ft-tall artwork close to the A1, did for Gateshead.

Blackpool ' F lying Week ' was held at Squires Gate in October 1909, the world ' s second

international aviation meeting after that held at R heims in August. In July/August 1910,

the Blackpool ' F lying Carnival ' met with even greater success.
