we’re very excited for you to be at the 3rd IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg.

Our entire team has worked hard to offer you an unforgettable experience of the unique cross-border triathlon in Netherlands

and Belgium. We hope you enjoy the race and most of all finish safely. Last year we were voted no. 1 for best finish line party

Store and Sport Expo

The IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg Merchandise Store as well as the Sport

Expo are located at Griend, next to the transition area. Opening hours:

• Thu. 03.08.: 10:00 am – 06:00 pm

Race Office – Race Bag Pickup

The Race Bag Pickup is located on the Griend in Maastricht next to the

IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg Sport Expo. Operating hours are on August the

3rd and on August the 4th from 10:00am till 06:00pm and on August the 5th

from 10:00am till 03:00pm.

Please bring a proof of a valid license and a valid photo ID with you. A license

for the race day is available at Race Office for Euro 25.00. Also you have to

hand in the signed waiver (available for download on our website).

In the Race Office the athlete will receive:

Athletes wristbandUsed to identify the athlete during the event weekend. This will be put on

during registration, and worn on the wrist. It must be visible for access to

athlete areas, and is not to be taken off until after bike Check-Out.

Red – for run gear

White – pre-race bag and post-race clothing

The red and the blue transition bags have to be checked in on Saturday in

Transition Area. The white transition bag can be dropped off on Sunday at the

Transition.

The special needs bags will be handed out on race day at the info point in

transition area from 05:00am.

BIB number / race number stickers 1 BIB number for the athlete: It is allowed to use a band or strap. Please

complete the emergency information on the backside of the BIB number!

1 sticker for the front of the bike helmet

2 stickers for the bike: Attach one at the rear brake cable, or on the seat-

post.

3 stickers for transition bags (blue, red, white). Only marking transition

bags with IM stickers is permitted, please do not write on them or use other

stickers.

Please ask for assistance if you are unsure about race stickers.

Swim cap All Athletes have to wear the swim cap provided by the organizer.

PRIOR TO THE RACE

Bike Check-In in the Transition Area

The Bike Check-In is compulsory. Both the blue and the red transition bags

have to be checked in together with the bike and helmet. You also need to

bring your BIB number. It is necessary for the check in that you wear the

athlete wristband.

The Check-In counter is open Saturday the 5th of August 01:00pm till 06:00pm

at the Griend, Maastricht (entrance at mount line side). It is essential to Check-

In during these times. Check-In outside these times will not be allowed.

Mandatory for all athletes:

1. Bike (bike-race-number attached on the seat-post, under the saddle.

2. Bike helmet (race number placed on the front)

3. BIB (race number)

4. Helmet and race number have to be placed on the bike or in the blue

transition bag; Bike shoes can be mounted on the pedals, or can be

stored in the blue transition bag. No equipment is allowed on the floor

around the bike!

Transition Area

There is a bike service near to transition area which is open between Check-In

times. Transition area will be closed between the 5th of August at 06:00pm and

the 6th of August at 05:00am and guarded by security. Bikes and Helmets may

not be removed out of transition area after Check-In. Check-In on race day

morning is not possible.

Timing chips

Race chips will be supplied by the organizer and will be handed out to the

athlete after Bike Check-In (Saturday) in the transition area. Athletes have to

wear them on the left ankle. It´s mandatory to wear the Race chip. No chip, no

timing!

The use of own chips is not allowed. Race chips provided by the organizer are

in responsibility of the athlete. Race chips will be needed for Bike Check-Out.

In case of loss the athlete has to pay a fee of Euro 50.00 per chip.

If the chip gets lost during the race a new chip has to be picked up in the

transition area.

Pre-Race briefing

The schedule for the pre-race briefings in different languages is listed on the

time table on page 4.

The participation at the pre-race briefing is mandatory.

Welcome Banquet

The ‘Welcome Banquet’ with the choice of different pasta dishes takes place

on the 4th of August from 12:00am pm till 05:00 pm at the Event Area (Griend,

Maastricht) next to the Transition area. The entry fee for IRONMAN

Maastricht-Limburg includes entry to the ‘Welcome banquet’.

RACE DAY INFORMATION

Weather on Race Day

Sunrise on the 6th of August will be at around 06:00am, sunset at around

09:30pm. The average daytime temperature in August is around 25°C.

We will monitor the weather on race day. We reserve the right to cancel,

modify or shorten any portion of the event for safety considerations.

Transition area, Pre-Race

• Transition Area opens on Race Day at 05:00am and will be closed at

06:30am. Only athletes, IRONMAN staff and authorized persons have

access to Transition Area. Coaches, managers, family members and

spectators have no access to Transition Area.

• A service point in Transition Area provides bike support including air-

pumps prior to the race from 05:00am. You may bring your own pump, but

must give it to a family member or friend before the race start. Pumps will

not be accepted in the white bag. The organizer accepts no responsibility

for an athlete’s air-pumps.

• The white pre-race bag contains clothing and personal items that will be

needed after the race. This white bag has to be dropped outside Transition

Area (swim start side) before the race and will await its owner in the

Athletes Garden near the Finish Line.

• Special needs bags can also be dropped off at the same location (swim

start side) of transition area.

Swim, Start

• Before the swim start, every athlete has to enter the Transition Area. This

is open 05:00am to 06:30am.

• Warmup: There is no warm-up in the water. Athletes can, however, warm

up at in the swim start area.

• At 07:00am the professional male athletes and at 07:05am the professional

female athletes start the race. Between 07:15am and 07:45am all other

athletes will start the race (rolling start).

• The swim course consists of one lap including a short 50 m run behind the

provincial government building.

• Athletes must enter the river via the official starting area so the timing chip

is activated. It is forbidden to swim in the surrounding area or jump over

fences.

• The timing mat is located directly on the pontoon at the steps. Every athlete

must pass it while entering the water. After completing the swim course the

athletes must leave the river at the official swim exit, crossing the timing

mat again. If the athlete leaves the water on another place, the timing mat

will not be scanned and it will be assumed the athlete is still in the river.

The emergency rescue procedure will then take place. This cost will be the

responsibility of the athlete.

• Wearing socks during the swim is not allowed. In case it is forbidden to

wear a wetsuit, no swimsuits with rubber and/or neoprene will be permitted.

• Athletes who wear glasses can store them on a table at swim start/exit. For

the identification (BIB number) of the glasses, the athlete is personally

responsible.

• The decision whether the athletes can swim with or without wet suit is

going to be announced one hour before the start of the race

There will be an “Arena-rating” on the swim course in addition to the normal race.The fastest female and male swimmer (no pros) will be honored.

Swim Cut Off-time: 2 hours 20 minutes (after your Race Start)

ROLLING SWIM START

As part of IRONMAN ongoing race development and improvements, the

IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg will be using a 'Rolling Swim Start'.

Athletes will line up according to their realistic predicted swim time ìn groups of

10 minutes – e.g. <60, 70, 80, 90 etc.

Every 5 seconds we will send out 10 to 12 athletes. It will take approximately

20 minutes to get the entire field across the swim start line.

Once the age group athletes have started, the relay teams can start. This will

be at earliest 07:30am.

Please be honest with yourself and line up according to your realistic expected

swim time!

This is the only way to guarantee a smooth and secure flow ensuring equal

opportunities for all athletes!

RACE DAY INFORMATION

Transition Swim – Bike

The blue transition bag contains personal bike gear and will be picked up in

Transition Area after swim exit.

Change clothes in the transition tent only!

The athlete has to pick-up the blue bag on the transition bag rack in front of

the transition tent. The changing of clothes is only allowed in the transition

tent. All equipment needs to be packed by the athlete independently into the

blue bag and dropped in the 'Drop-Off zone' behind the tent. Only Bike shoes

(clipped on the pedals), helmet, BIB-number and sunglasses are allowed to be

stored ON the bike. The ground beneath the bike has to stay clear!

Leaving Transition Area Cut Off-time: 2 hours 30 minutes (after Race Start)

Bike

• The bike portion is a time-trial for each single athlete and consists of a 2-

loop course. The bike course is closed for public traffic. Athletes still have

to be prepared for oncoming traffic and stay on the right side of the course.

• IRONMAN security staff, under police supervision, will operate

pedestrian/car crossings at certain positions along the bike course. The

race will not be affected by the crossings.

• The athlete is responsible for stopping at the very next penalty tent

following the infringement. The exact position of the tents will be described

in the Pre-Race Briefing. These will be marked clearly.

• The Bike Course provides five fully equipped aid stations per lap. The

exact locations of the aid stations are described in the course map; a

detailed sequence of food and drinks is shown in the illustration, please

see page 15 of this Race Information.

• Mobile bike support along the Bike Course is guaranteed by three service

vans. The official Bike-Service provides only technical support (no spare

tyres).

• It is mandatory to drive on the right side on the bike course.

Penalty tent 1: 52/144 km. Kleine Spouwen, BE

Penalty tent 3: 89/179 km. shortly before Transition Area, Maastricht

Transition Bike – Run

After completing the Bike Course, the athlete must rack their own bike,

volunteers will not assist. The bikes will be put back at the spot it was racked

before the swim.

Athletes will pick up the red bag containing their run gear from the rack in

Transition Area.

Change clothes inside the transition tent only!

Put your bike gear into the red bag independently and deposit the bag in the

‘Drop Off zone’ behind the tent.

Cut off 2e lap: 02.00 pm

Cut Off-time after Swim and Bike: 10 hours (after Race Start)

Run

• While running please keep right, take care of other athletes and let them

overtake if necessary

• The Run Course is a 4-loop course. Due to fair play and safety the Run

Course is open for athletes only. Any accompaniment is forbidden.

• For visual control you will receive a wristband when finishing each loop.

You have to keep these wristbands fully visible at all times. Entering the

home stretch is allowed with the four differently coloured wristbands only.

Staff members will show you the way to the Finish Line when you leave

the loop course. Signs will also indicate the right way.

• There are NO penalty boxes on the Run Course. If an athlete receives a

penalty on the Run Course, the BIB-Number will be marked right away and

he/she has to stop immediately for 1 minute.

• The Run Course provides six Aid Stations plus one water station when

leaving Transition area. A detailed sequence of food and drinks is shown in

the illustration, please see page 17 of this Race Information.

There will be an “Skechers-rating” on the run course in addition to the normal race.The fastest female and male runner (no pros) will be honored.

Cut Off-time after Swim, Bike and Run: 16 hours 15 minutes after your start,

latest at 00:00am at the Finish line

RACE DAY INFORMATION | AFTER THE RACE

Special Needs

The organizer announces that special needs are in the athlete’s own

responsibility. Bags (Orange for Bike and Black for Run) will be available by

request on Sunday morning at the Info point in T1. A service will be provided

to drop off the “Special Need”-bags in transition area 1 at the Info point on

Sunday morning. Only the bags provided by the organizer will be delivered to

the aid stations on the course! Transport and storage will be handled by the

IRONMAN staff. It´s in the own responsibility of the athlete to find and grab his

numbered “Special Need”-bag on the table at the aid stations. All bags, which

were not used during the event will be trashed.

You cannot let your support staff hand over any personal nutrition / special

needs. A breach of the rules will result in a disqualification because of

“unauthorized acceptance of aid”.

No-Show and early race breakoff

If an athlete can´t compete on race day (e.g. due to illness), or stops the race

early, it´s necessary to inform a referee / responsible person or someone in

charge at the transition area. In case the athlete does not sign out, the timing-

chip is still active. This may arise in costs for search and rescue (u.c.c. for the

athlete himself), as the organizer assumes an emergency situation and will

initiate.. appropriate measures.

Medical Support

The Medical Team of IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg guarantees an optimum

of medical support at any time. During the race doctors and first aid personnel

will attend the Swim Course, each Aid Station along the Bike Course and the

Run Course. When crossing the Finish Line every athlete is taken care of by

the Finish Area Team, and a doctor will be on hand to check physical

conditions.

Afterwards, a member of the Finish Area Team will lead the athlete to the

Athletes Garden. Please obey the orders of the medical staff at all times.

Since hot summer weather is expected it is necessary to drink plenty of water

and especially isotonic drinks during the race and after the finish. Every

competitor must have an own individual health insurance which covers

medical treatment in case of serious injury or illness as well as the treatment in

a hospital.

Doping tests

For all professional athletes see the regulations of the IRONMAN Pro

Membership. In the case an age group athlete has to go to a doping test and is

taking medicine please check http://www.nada.de/de/service-

infos/downloads/listen. A late filing is not possible (we recommend storing the

document in the white transition bag).

Athletes Garden

Recover and relax in the Athletes Garden of the IRONMAN Maastricht-

Limburg. The Athletes Garden is located right behind the Finish Line. The

Athletes Garden offers separate shower facilities, changing rooms and

refreshment zones, as well as regeneration massage and medical support.

The entrance to the Athletes Garden is free of charge but limited to athletes

and staff members with explicit permission only. This area is not for family or

friends of the athlete.

Finisher-Shirts, Medals and certificates

Finisher Shirts and medals will be handed out at the finish line. Certificates will

be also available for download after the event. Engraving of the medals will be

offered in the Athletes Garden.

Bike Check-Out at Transition Area

The Bike Check-Out is located at the Transition Area. Operating hours on race

day from 06:30pm till 01:00am. The organizer’s supervision for bikes ends at

01:00am. Bikes are returned in exchange for the race-chip. Bikes won’t be

returned if athlete is not able to show his race-chip. If the chip is lost the

athlete has to show a valid identity card/passport. Personal belongings that

have been left in the Transition Areas can be picked up separately by showing

the race-number and a valid picture-ID/passport, if the athlete is not going to

pick up the equipment himself. Once the athlete has left the Bike Check-Out,

claims of damage or loss of material won’t be accepted any more.

AFTER THE RACE

Post Race Press Conference

The Post Race Press Conference of the IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg takes

place on Race Day, at 05:00pm in the City office, Mosae Forum, Maastricht.

We kindly invite the first three women and men to attend this press conference

and to be present at 05:00pm latest.

Awards Ceremony

The Finisher Banquet takes place on Monday the 7th of August from 11:00am

till 12:30pm at the Event Area next to Transition in Griend, Maastricht. The

award ceremony begins at 12:00pm.

Trophies and prizes are handed out personally only. Trophies and prizes

which have not been picked up will expire. The entry fee for IRONMAN

Maastricht-Limburg includes one ticket for the Finisher Banquet.

Slot allocation for IRONMAN World Championship, Hawaii

2017

IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg allocates 40 slots for the IRONMAN World

Championship 2017 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. If you qualify in the 2017 edition

of IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg you are eligible to compete in the IRONMAN

World Championship Hawaii 2017 only. All competitors who wish to make use

of their qualification slots have to be present at slot allocation which is taking

place on the 7th of August after the awards ceremony at the Party Area. As not

each competitor will make use of his slot, other athletes will advance after a

special WTC allocation system till all slots are allocated. The organizer

emphasizes particularly that he has the last decision as to this allocation of

slots. The qualification fee is 925,00 US$ and has to be paid on the spot. Only

credit cards will be accepted. The allocation of slots for the IRONMAN World

Championship 2017 will be done as follows (last update). This is a preliminary

slot calculation, this is not the final slot calculation! The final number of slots in

each age group will be calculated on race day with the number of starters.

Results

A complete list of results will be published Monday, after the Race, at 11:00am

at the Awards Party. To determine the final race results there will be a session

with the court of arbitration the day after the race between 10:00am and

10:30am. The venue will be the place of the awards ceremony.

The court of arbitration consists of following persons:

• the Race Director of the race or a personally named and determined

deputy person

• the Head Referee of the race or a personally named and determined

deputy person

• a Person with the qualification of judgeship

The court of arbitration determines the race results subject to the final results

of the doping test. An objection can only be raised at the Awards Party on-site.

After the race all results will be shown on www.ironman.com/maastricht

NEW Rules 2017:

You can find the official rules and regulations governing all IRONMAN events

1. Yellow cards will now be a 1-minute Stop-and-Go Time Penalty.

2. Disc brakes are now allowed globally at all IRONMAN and IRONMAN

70.3 races.

3. Athletes may not use communication devices of any type, including but

not limited to cell phones, smart watches, and two-way radios, in any

distractive manner during the race. A “distractive manner” includes but is

not limited to making and receiving phone calls, sending and receiving

texts messages, playing music, using social media, and taking

photographs. Using a communication device in a distractive manner

during the race will result in disqualification.

4. All athletes have to leave the changing tent completely dressed. Uniforms

with a front zip must not be undone below the point of the end of the

breastbone (sternum) – disqualification if not remedied promptly.

5. It is not allowed to get own nutrition/ special needs handed over by

supporters. Every external support for athletes is prohibited and will result

in a disqualification. On race day morning athletes can receive a special

needs bag (bike orange, run black) at the I nfo point next to the transition

area which will be delivered to the special needs areas by the organizer.

The special needs area on the bike course is located behind the first aid

station, the one on the run course is located behind the first water station.

Only the bags provided by the organizer will be delivered. Not used

special needs bags will be trashed.

Please note that rules may change slightly per event. Be sure to familiarize

yourself with the rules published in the race briefing.

Lost and Found

Lost and found equipment is collected during the race and the race week at

the Info-Point. There you can pick them up. The opening hours for the

InfoPoint are Friday to Sunday 10 am to 7 pm.

After the race we will bring the lost and found equipment to the awards

ceremony and you can pick up your stuff there.

If you do not pick up your belongings at the race, we will contact you after the

race (if we can connect the lost and found stuff to you). We will ship them to

you and charge you a shipping fee from your credit card initially you paid with.

We will ship finisher shirts and medals without any costs if you have finished

the race and didn’t get one.

The organizer accepts no liability.

Especially for IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg 2017:

If an athlete is involved in an accident during the event, it is obligatory for the

athlete to stay there and wait until the accident is recorded at least by the

protocol of an race official or the police. If the athlete continues the race after

being involved in the accident he or she could be charged for ´leaving the

scene of an accident´.Furthermore it is prohibited to pollute the road surface. Pollution in this case

means also coloring or branding the tarmac. Infringement leads to prosecution

by the police.

COMPETITION RULES

The following is a summary of the most common Competition Rule

violations and penalties and is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of

violations and penalties (“Summary”). Each athlete is responsible for

knowing and understanding all Competition Rules (including without

limitation any additional rules set forth in the Event-specific Athlete

Information Guide).

• A penalty during the swim will be given at transition swim/bike.

• A penalty in transition and at the run course will be given and sit out

at the spot.

• All penalties at the bike course can only be sit out in the Penalty

Tent.

• In general using headsets or headphones or other communication

devices (unless pre-approved by the Head Referee) are not allowed

during competition.

• Littering only in and immediately after the aid station. Littering

outside the designed area leads to disqualification.

Cards:

• yellow card: 1-minute Time Penalty

• blue card: 5-minutes Time Penalty

• red card: disqualification (the athlete can go on with the race,

but will not be in the result list).

• If a yellow card violation is not corrected by the athlete, a red card

can follow.

The Bike Course provides five fully equipped aid stations. All Aid Stations are

setup in the same order.

RELAY TEAMS

Briefing

Athletes are free to attend the Dutch, English, or German pre-race briefings.

This must be attended by at least one member of the team.

Registration

Registration can be done by any member of the team, as long as he brings the

waiver signed by all athletes of the team. Please download the waiver online.

Relay athletes do not need licenses.

Relay teams will receive: 1 timing chip, 1 white transition bag, 1 BIB number.

Bike Check-In

Relay teams must check in their bikes the same as individual athletes.

However, it is not necessary to check in coloured bags as athletes do not have

to change clothes. The athlete must check in the helmet attached to the bike.

Transition Area

Relay teams have their own section in the transition area. This can be

accessed via the east side of the tent and will be clearly signed during race

weekend.

Race Chip

The timing chip and BIB number will be used as a baton. It has to be handed

from Swimmer to Biker to Runner.

Bike check out can only be done with the timing chip and a race number.

Swimmer

On Sunday morning, the Swimmer can bring a sports bag into the transition

area. The bag can be deposited in the transition area and picked up again

after the swim in the relay teams area.

Biker

The Biker can bring a sports bag with equipment. This can be brought on

Sunday morning to the transition area, and kept in the relay teams area.

Runner

The Runner will get a white bag. This can be brought on Sunday morning to

the transition are and it will be transported to the Athletes Garden by

IRONMAN staff.

One team in the IronTeam Relay consists of 2 or 3 athletes. The decision

which team member swims / bikes / runs has to be made when picking up the

Race bag in the Race Office at the latest. All athletes have to sign the waiver.

The minimum age for all participants is 18 years.

One member of your team can pick up your race pack at registration as long

as the event waiver is signed by each relay member.

Maastricht Sport IRONMAN Night Run

The previous Maastricht Sport Nightrun was a great success and we are

happy to continue this event in the third edition of the IRONMAN Maastricht-

Limburg. It is a 5 km fun run, so it is suitable for all levels and ages! Anyone

can start the race on Friday 4 August at 21.30, and enjoy being a part of such

an event. However, be sure to come early for the warm up!

The race will start at de Griend, Maastricht, and a one loop course through

Maastricht centre is planned! It will be a lot of fun for everyone involved, with

music, the support of local residents, volunteers and all participants making a

great atmosphere.

Once the race is over, everyone is welcome to join the IRONMAN pre-party, at

the Griend, Maastricht with our DJ Team from 20:30 until 01:00. We look

forward to seeing you then, and making it a fun and enjoyable evening!

At 21:10 the warm-up by Maastricht Sport will start at de Griend, Maastricht.

Make sure you are there!

The online registration fee is 15,- € (plus 8% active fee = 16,20 €; via credit

card or bank transfer). The fee for on site registration is 20,- €

Maastricht Sport IRONKIDS

On the way to the third edition of IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg, the

youngsters in this region can play a part of the fun in the city. The young

athletes can participate in events with various formats and locations to engage

with not only the Maastricht region but also surrounding towns. All events are

designed for kids from the age of 6 to 15 years.

Maastricht Sport IRONKIDS Maastricht will take place on the Griend,

Maastricht on the 5th August starting from 10:00 AM. In this area the young

athletes will get to experience a triathlon, by being a part of the build up to the

IRONMAN Maastricht-Limburg on Sunday. Spectators are also expected to

turn up to watch local IRONKIDS participate safely and have fun!

• All children must cycle with a helmet. We advise to practice swimming in

open water beforehand.

• Online-Registration is possible until 30th of July

Price: € 10,00 EUR + 8% Active fee (via credit card or bank transfer).

• Late registration is open from 10.00am - 06.00pm on August 3rd and 4th

and from 08.15am - 10.00am on Saturday 5th of August. Late registration

fee is € 15,00.

• Please come on time to register your child, check the bike in and collect a

t-shirt, race number and wristband, also when you’ve registered online. The

waiver signed by parents has to be handed in at registration. You can

• On-site registrations will be served on a first come, first served basis. We

Swim Smart Top 10 Checklist

An open-water swim in a triathlon is substantially different from swimming in a

pool. This is why it is important that you arrive on race day healthy, fit and

prepared. On our homepage we created a Swim Smart Top 10 Checklist for

you to support you with your race preparations.

If you are involved in an accident:

Athlete – Spectator:

The police must be called! You have to stay until the police has arrived!

Athlete – Athlete:

Communicate with each other, whether both of you can continue.

If not, both athletes have to stay until the police arrive.

Important Note!:IRONMAN does not allow athletes to transfer his or her registration to another

person. This will result in a disqualification and potential suspension of future

IRONMAN events.

If an athlete has to stop the race and quit, he has to inform a referee, officials

or stop by the information point at the Transition Area!
