Supreme Court, Christchurch, on the Sth inst., to answer to a charge of having forged a cheque for ,£1,000.—Description: English, a farmer, between forty and forty-five years of age, 6ft. high, stout build, broad shoulders, very large rough hands, swarthy complexion, good looking features, dark browm beard, whiskers and moustache worn fairly long, a yellowish tint at points of moustache, heavy eyebrows, mark of an old wound on one of shins, believed the right one, generally wears dark grey clothes. He will likely alter his appearance and dress, with a view of endeavoring to leave the colony. He left Kaikoura on the 16th ult., by the steamer Wal^Mtu, for Wellington, under the name of Campbell, and was then shaved, except beard and moustache, and wore a dark tweed coat and cord trowsers. He may have been joined at Wellington by a woman named Bush alias Dash alia.,? Ticen, who left Lyttelton on the 12th ult., as a steerage passenger by the steamer Waihora, for Wellington. She is about twenty-eight years of age, stout build, good looking features, freckled, fair complexion, light colored hair, wore a gi-eyish colored ulster, greenish colored hat, and had with her a child five months old ; she had also with her a brown leather portmanteau, labelled " Mrs. Ticen, Wellington," the property of the offender, and two

boxes of her own, one of which was painted yelk'w, and bore a similar address to that on the portman­teau. Offender is also charged on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with having forged the name of Daniel Day, to a promissory note for £1,000. He may assume the name of Hornby. He and the woman will likely have large sums of money in gold in their possession. Photographs of offender in Inspector's Office, Wellington.

Information is requested respecting Julia Bateman, sometimes called Berry, supposed a native of Dublin, a cook or general sei'vant, about 41 years of age, about Sft. Sin. high, slight build, dark complexion, long visage, dark hair turning grey. She arrived in Wellington from London about seven years ago, and acted as housekeeper for John Ward, late a drummer in the 65th Regiment, and a messenger in the Government Buildings up to the time of his death, which occurred about six years ago. She left Porirua about four years ago, and has not since been heard of. She is inquired for at the instance of her sister, who resides at New York.

Missing Friend. Information is required as to the present where­

abouts of Edward O'Brien, exp., late 9539, who received a Certificate of Freedom at Geraldton in December, 1880.

He left that district in the early part of the follow­ing year, with the intention of proceeding to Fre­mantle or Bunbury, since which time no tidings can be heard of him.

Description—slight, age 42 years, Sft. 7j inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, long visage, dark complexion.

Inquiry is made at the request of the missing friend's brother, who writes from England.
