God Will Provide

In the Old Testament we read the story Abraham offering his son Isaac. God told

Abraham, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land

of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I

shall tell you" (Genesis 22:2). So Abraham went, and he took Isaac with him. When

they got to Mount Moriah where Abraham would make the offering, Isaac asked

about the sacrifice. In Genesis 22:8, we read: “Abraham said, ‘God will provide for

himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.’ So they went both of them together.”

After God stayed Abraham’s hand, and provided a ram for sacrifice the Bible says,

“So Abraham called the name of that place, ‘The LORD will provide’; as it is said to

this day, ‘On the mount of the LORD it shall be provided.’”

We all have tests and trials to go through in this life. There are times of uncertainty,

trepidation, worry, and fear. As we live by faith, God promises to be with us as He

was with Abraham. We deny self, empty our lives to God, and become that living

sacrifice that He wants us to be. Before Abraham could offer up his son to God,

Abraham had to offer up himself trusting that God would take care of him and his

family. His proclamation to Isaac, “God will provide,” gives us hope that when

troubles arise in our life God will be there for us and provide what we are needing for

the moment. It is hard to relinquish control to God, but in doing so, God will conform

of us to image of His dear Son, who gave up everything to teach us who God

created us to be. God bless you and I love you.

Discerning the Discipline of God

“For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; weeping may last

for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning. Now as for me, I said in

my prosperity, ‘I will never be moved.’ O LORD, by Your favor You have made

my mountain to stand strong; You hid Your face, I was dismayed. To You, O

LORD, I called, and to the LORD I made supplication: ‘What profit is there in my

blood, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your

faithfulness? Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me; O LORD, be my helper.’

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my

sackcloth and girded me with gladness, that my soul may sing praise to You

and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever” (Psalm

30:5-12). David saw his trip to death’s door as a rebuke from God. Maybe his

trouble had come as a result of poor judgment on his part, or maybe it had come

because of sin he had committed. His experience causes us to ask, “How should we

look at God’s discipline?” We should see it as an act of love. If God did not care, He

would not chastise us. A father loves, and therefore he corrects. If God did not correct

us, He would not have the tough love an earthly father must have for his children. We

should see it as temporary. It is a momentary unpleasantness that gets our attention

and teaches us a valuable lesson. His anger lasts only a moment, but His love covers

our lives. We should see it as needful. God does not allow the unnecessary. He does

not waste time or energy. He gives us what we need when we need it. We accept

correction in athletics, in child rearing, and in other areas of life. Why then do we not

accept it in spiritual training?

Key Thought: David advised that we look at the result of the discipline we receive. We

may weep at the time of it, but we will shout for joy the next day. We may find God’s

discipline to be inconvenient for our agenda, but as we mature spiritually, we are glad

it was given.
