My knew school. Parkside Prep, theschool that all the rich kids go to. I walkthrough the hallway to find my locker."Excuse me" I tap a girl on her shoulder,"do you know where locker Z17 is?""Oh...yeah... down there" she points downthe hallway. When I get there, my greylocker says Z17 in gold letters. I unpackand put my locker shelf and EMMY magnet on

the side. "Bang" the locker door from theside hits me on the head. "Oh sorry!" saysa boy. I put my hand to my head. "That'sokay" I say. The boy is tall with brownshaggy hair and green eyes. He is wearingjeans, and a white button-up shirt with thesleaves rolled up, and a black and red tie."You okay?" "yeah." "So, um... are you knewhere?" he asks. "Yeah, I'm from Dallas,Texas." "Awesome, I'm Oliver Lanken by the

way." "Emmy McAnderson." "So are you likenamed after something?" asks Oliver. "I'mnamed after the Emmy's. You know, thatawards show?" I reply. "Yeah, that's cool.

Well, It's been nice talking to you EmmyMcAnderson, but I gotta go to homeroom.""Which homeroom are you in?" I ask."Mr.Wallace." "Oh, me too! Do you thinkyou could show me where it is?" "Yeah,

"Good morning class." A tall man with a white beard stood at the desk that said'Mr.Wallace.' "I am Mr.Wallace, yourhomeroom teacher for this year. Now, I want



all of you to stand up one at a time, andsay your name who you know, and what youlike about them. Kenzie, you go first." Agirl with long blonde hair and blue eyesstood up. "My name is McKenzie, buteveryone calls me Kenzie as you can tell.

Well... I pretty much know everyone, exceptlike a few people, so I like that they thinkI'm pretty." Mr.Wallace rolls his eyes."Okay... Oliver, your turn." Oliver stoodup. "My name is Oliver Lanken, I know

people, but my friend is Emmy McAnderson. Ilike her because she is nice, funny, andbeautiful." All of the sudden my heart

started racing. Does Oliver like me? Ithought. Everyone stared at Oliver and I.Oliver sat down, looked at me, and smiled.I smiled back.

"You said I am beautiful" I say toOliver as we walk to a lunch table together."Yeah, you are. I mean, like, I like you asa friend, Emmy. Sorry if you misunderstood

me." "No, I get it" I say. "Did you thinkI was going to ask you out?" asks Oliver."Well... um... uh... kinda." "Well, then ifyou want to go out, why didn't you just ask

me?" "I..." "So, how about a movie. If itdoesn't work out, then we can just go backto being friends, okay?" "Yeah, cool." Myfirst day and I already have a date.

That night, my older brother Tomdropped me off at the movie theatre. "Hey"said Oliver as I walked up to him. Oliver

was wearing a red American Eagle polo andskinny leg black jeans. "You look nice"said Oliver. "Thanks, you too" I smiled,"so what are we going to see?" "Wizard ofOz" replies Oliver. "Wizard of Oz?" "Yeah,they are just showing it tonight." "Oh" I

say back.

When Oliver and I get to the theatreroom, I let him pick the seat, so he picksthe very front. "So we can see all theaction" says Oliver when we sit down. "Whataction is there in Wizard of Oz?" I ask."You know, the tornado of coarse." I laugh

a little bit. "I'm gonna go get us somepopcorn" says Oliver, Oliver stands up andleaves.

"Hey!" I turn to look. Kenzie isstanding there. "Emmy right?" she asks."Yeah, your Kenzie." "Yes, so do you wantto come sit with us since you are here byyourself?" "I have someone with me" I say

back. "Oh, Jane or something?" Who isJane? I think. "No, Oliver Lanken." "Wow,are you guys like... on a date?" asksKenzie. "Yeah" I answer. "Hey" I turnaround, Oliver is standing there with thepopcorn. "Hey Ollie" says Kenzie. Ollie?Is there something I don't know? "Ol!"



Kenzie's boyfriend Kevin is now standingbeside Kenzie. "Hey Kevin!" Oliver andKevin do a high-five, then it turns into a

man-hug with pats on the back. "Havn't seenyou in a long time" says Kevin. The nextthing I know, Kenzie is sitting beside metalking about boys and stuff, and Kevin andOliver are sitting together talking aboutfootball.

The next day at school, I was so mad."Emmy!" Oliver was running toward me downthe hall. "That date rocked last night,getting to see Kevin. We havn't talkedsince fifth grade." "Yeah, cool, whatever.""What's wrong, Em?" "The fact that it

wasn't even a real date. And I'm prettysure there's something going on with you andKenzie, Ollie." "Emmy, there is NOTHING

going on with me and Kenzie. Kenzie and Ijust dated for awhile when we were likeeleven, she used to call me Ollie, and neverquit." "Yeah, right." All of the sudden,Oliver kisses me. "Emmy" says Oliversoftly. "I... I... I gotta go" I say. "Em,

wait, if you don't want to be with me, atleast listen to this" Oliver hands me atape.

That night I opened Oliver's tape.There was the tape and a note inside, it

said I love you. I cried right when I saw it.I put the tape in, and it was a song calledSecret Valentine. I cried and held the noteto my heart. The song was what Oliver

wanted to say to me. After the first song,other songs followed that made me cry even

more. "Emmy" my dad was standing at thedoor. "Hey dad" I say still crying."What's wrong sweetheart?" dad sat downbeside me. "Love... love is what's wrong."

I could see Oliver standing by mylocker as I walked down the hall on Monday.Right when I saw him I jumped on him andkissed him. "I love you too" I say. "Soare you ready to try to go out again?" asksOliver. "Yeah" I answer. "Ooooh! Lookslike we have a knew couple here!" Kenzie isstanding infront of us. "So is Emmy abetter kisser than I am?" asks Kenzie.

"Shut up McKenzie" replies Oliver. "It'sKenzie!" shouts Kenzie, "Oliver, you know Iam a better kisser than her!" "Whatever"says Oliver. "You want me Ollie." "No,actually I don't."

"So where do you want to go on ourdate?" asks Oliver. "Well, I was thinkingyou can come with me on Saturday morning tothe school" I answered. "Why? Do you dotutoring or something?" "No, the HelpfullHappy Helpers of America" "What's that?""We plant flowers and trees and pick uptrash" I answered. "Oh, cool. What timeshould I be there?" "Six thirty, theParkview Garden."

The next day was Saturday, the sun wasjust coming up. Stella, Amber, Hallie,Rebekah, Catheryne and I were spreading

mulch. "Vroom" Oliver's brothers carpulled up. Oliver stepped out of the caryawning. "Emmy, you owe me for making meget up so early" said Oliver. "Hey, I do



this every Saturday, Ol." Oliver walkedover to us, and crouched down beside me."Your boyfriend is hot" says Hallie. Oliversmiled, "thank you." "So, Em, what shall Ido?" asked Oliver. "Help us spread this

mulch out." I handed Oliver a pair ofgloves. "Time to get down and dirty" saysOliver. All of us are silent for awhile."Emmy, we need some knew people for theHelpfull Happy Helpers of America" saysStella. "I know! Nobody wants to comebecause it's so early" I say back. with Rebekah. "It's so manly when a boyplants flowers" she says. I refrain myselffrom punching her. "Kenzie, stop" saysOliver. Then . Kenzie . kisses . him ."Hey!" I yell. I try to pull Oliver andKenzie away from each other, but Kenzie

won't let go. She's doing this on purpose."Kenzie, stop!" I yell. Kenzie held ontoOliver tightly. "Oliver!!!" I screamed.Soon, the other girls noticed what Kenzie

was doing. "McKenzie!" yelled Kevin. Kevin

ran over to them and pulled them apart,causing Oliver to fall to the ground.Oliver's mouth was pink from Kenzie'slipstick. "Why were you kissing Emmy'sboyfriend? i thought we were togetherforever!" yelled Kevin, "I thought we lovedeachother!" "Well, I do love you, it's



just... there's something about Oliver-""Heffer!" I yelled. Kenzie turned to me,her eyes wide. "Listen, you and Oliver,yeah, you guys are over. Sorry Kenzie, buthe's with me now!" Kenzie laughed, "like helikes you." "Go away!" I yelled. "Fine,but this won't be the last of me, EmmyMcAnderson." Kenzie took Kevins' hand and

walked away to the parking lot. Stella,Hallie, Rebekah, Catheryne and Amber walkedaway so Oliver and I could talk.

I sat down and put my face in my hands.

"Em, I'm sorry" says Oliver, he walks overto me and sits beside me. "Do you stilllike Kenzie?" I ask him. "Em, no, Kenziekissed me. I didn't want to, I tried to

make her stop." He put his arm around me."I would never kiss another girl" saysOliver, "Em, I love you." I look into hiseyes. "I love you too, Oliver." I smileand kiss him.

"So, how was your day?" asked my mom, as we all sat at the table eating dinner."Fine" I reply. "Fine?" says my dad."Yeah, I went to this thing this morning.The Helpfull Happy Helpers of America,Daniel took me." "Your in a club?" asks my

mom. "No, not really. I was with someone.""Who?" asks Daniel, he wants me to get in

trouble, because he know's about Emmy."My...girlfriend" I answer. "Girlfriend!"say my mom and dad together, "who? we didn'tknow that you have a girlfriend." "Her nameis Emmy McAnderson." "Emmy-" "I'm done" Isay. I run up to my room and lock the door.

"Ring...ring" my cell phone rings.

"Hello?" I say. "Hey Ollie! It's Kenzie" Isigh. "What do you want?" I ask. "Ollie,you know what I want" she says. "Listen,Kenzie, we are over. I'm dating Emmy now,not you." "You liked that kiss, Oliver, Iknow you did" says Kenzie. "Shut upKenzie!" I yell into the phone. "Oliver, Ilove you, and you love me. Just admit it,Emmy is a loser. Break up with her." "Emmy

is my girlfriend, and I love her!!!" Iscream, I hang up the phone. I'm cryingnow, I open my door and run downstairs."Ollie, where are you going?" asks my mom."To the beach", I run out of the house.



I sit on the beach crying. "Oliver" Iturn around, Emmy is standing there. "Em"Emmy sits down next to me. "How'd you know

where to find me?" I ask. "I called yourhouse, and your mom said you were at thebeach.

Why are you crying?" "Because Kenzie is ahorrible person." "What did she do?" asksEmmy. "She called me, she's trying to make

me break up with you. She's ruining mylife, Emmy!" I yell, "she won't stop tillshe gets what she wants."

Dear Diary,

I'm going to talk about Oliver tonight. Oliver is my boyfriend. Oliver isthe nicest person in the whole world. He is one of the only people beside thepeople in the Helpfull Happy Helpers of America (Stella, Amber, Catheryne,Hallie, and Rebekah) that is nice to me. Besides the person I asked aboutwhere my locker is (I found out her name is Amanda Light), he was the firstperson I really talked to. One moment, I was this new person who didn'tknow anybody. The next moment I meet Oliver Lanken, and the nextmoment he tells me he loves me. But, there's still the McKenzie Kollerproblem. She just won't leave us alone. Oliver is a very nice person, he's nota jerk like other guys. As for how Oliver looks, he looks like a prince. LikeRomeo. He is gorgeous. On a scale of one to ten, its a ten definetly. Well,

your probably getting annoyed by me talking about Oliver so much, so, Iguess I better go to bed now.

Today is Monday, the start of our sevendays break from school. This morning Olivertexted me and told me he was going to playbasketball with Kevin. Kevin broke up withKenzie after the incident. Kevin is a wholelot nicer than Kenzie. Kevin says he isfree now that he's not dating her anymore.Oliver said he wants me to meet him at the

beach at noon. So, now I am walking aroundat the beach waiting for him. "Hey" Oliveris walking toward me. He is wearing a wetsuit. Oh no I think. "We are goingsurfing" he says.

Oliver and I float out in the ocean withour surfboards. Mine is pink and blue, it

says EMMY on the side. "I got it made foryou" says Oliver. "Oh, thank you" I say."Okay, here comes a wave. Try to stand up"says Oliver. The wave starts to come towardus. I paddle forward, and throw my feet onthe surfboard, and slowly stand up."Oliver!" I yell, but right when he looks at

me, I fall off. My body is thrown in the water. The current is pulling me down. Isee fish swimming around me. I try to swim

up, then I feel Oliver pulling me up. Ilook up and see the sun shining on the

water. Next I feel air around me, I coughout water. "You okay?" says Oliver. Icough again, then look at him and smile,"yeah, that was fun."



Oliver and I take a break and go over toa bar called Malibu's. Oliver and I sitlooking at the beach drinking none-alchaholic pina coladas'. "Hey guys!" Kevinand Rebekah walk up to us. Rebekah is inher bikini, Kevin in his pink swim trunks."Hey, Kev" says Oliver. Kevin puts his armaround Rebekah. I give Rebekah a look, andshe shakes her head 'yes'. "We're datingnow" says Rebekah. "Oh, that's great" saysOliver. "Well, we better go, we are goinscuba diving. Nice seeing yall'" saysKevin.

"Tell me something I don't know aboutyou" says Oliver. "Well, we moved here, toCalifornia, because my dad's job" I answer."Cool, well... My full name is Oliver AndrewLanken." "Mine is Emmy ElizabethMcAnderson." "Awesome, that's a prettyname" says Oliver. "Awwww thank you."

Oliver and I sit there and talk forhours, then we walk down to the boat dockand sit down with our feet in the water.Oliver takes his ipod player out of hisbackpack that he brought, and puts hisitouch in it. A few seconds later the song'Island In the Sun' plays. "That's one of

my favorite songs" I say. "Mine too" says

Oliver. The sun is setting in the pink andpurple California sky. "I love you as bigas the sky, Emmy" says Oliver. "I love youlike that too, Oliver" I say back. Oliverlaughs. "I wish the whole world would justgo away, It would just be you and me" saysOliver, "this is one of the only times we've



been together alone without Kenzie." "Iknow, I like it" I say. Oliver turns to meand smiles, then he kisses me.

It's been two weeks since Emmy and I went down to the boat dock. I have justgotten back from hanging out at my friendAdam's house. Emmy asked me if I wanted togo to some collector Barbie doll convention.I said I would just go hang out with Adam.Because you know, that's a girl thing. So,she just went with her eighteen year old

sister Molly.

"Hello?" I walk into the family room,nobody is there. Then I walk into thekitchen. Mom and dad are in there crying.Two police officers are sitting at thekitchen table. Daniel is standing againstthe wall, with his face in his hands."What's going on?" I ask. "Oliver" my

brother walks to me, his eyes are red. Heputs his hands on my shoulders. "Emmy-" hesays, "what about her?" I say. "Emmy isdead, she was killed on her way back home bya drunk driver. He ran into the car, she

was killed instantly. Her sister Mollylived." "What?" I say. "She's dead, Ollie"

whispers Daniel. "NO!" I scream, "she's notdead!" I run up to my room, and throw

myself on my bed. I am crying. "Emmy!please, no!" I scream, "god, no, don't dothis to me, god!" "Oliver, I'm sorry"Daniel walks over to me. "I want to see herbody" I say.



Daniel takes me to the emergency room.Emmy's family is in a room with Mollycrying. Molly is in bed, she broke her legbadly. A man named Dr.Gerard H. Blaynetakes us to Emmy's body. We walk in theroom, Daniel and Dr.Blayne leave me alone inthe room. "Take as much time as you need"says Dr.Blayne. Emmy's face is pale white,her eyes are closed and there is a blanketover her naked body. Her arms and neck arebadly injured and cut. "Em, no" I say. "Ihold her dead, cold hand. "I love you Emmy,I'm sorry this happened to you" I kiss her.I should have gone with her. I would have

died too. It's my fault, but at the sametime I know It's not. It was her time togo. That's God's decision. I sit there fora long time, but I don't talk. I thinkabout the times Emmy and I had together.

When I hit her in the head with my locker.Our first date to see Wizard of Oz. TheHelpfull Happy Helpers of America. Thenight we talked when I was crying on thebeach. When we went surfing. When we saton the boat dock listening to 'Island In theSun'. When I gave her the tape. When Iknew she loved me. "I love you as big asthe sky" I say.

Two weeks later was Emmy's funeral. It was at her church, they played RememberYesterday by Joshua Payne, that was probablythe saddest song ever. Joshua's voiceechoed threw the church. They carriedEmmy's casket down the isle, I cried.People threw flowers in the aisle. I threw aflower that I wrote I LOVE YOU on one of the

petals in the aisle. A few minutes later, I went up and gave a speech about her. I toldthem about how we met, everything. Peoplecried. I did too. Then Molly McAndersongave a speech. She cried and told Emmy she

was sorry, Molly thought It was her fault.After we all had a big dinner, we wentoutside, and they buried Emmy's casket. My

mom and dad hugged me. "I'm sorry dude"said Kevin as he walked toward me, "she was

a good person" he hugged me. I could seeKenzie standing beside her parents. I

walked over to her. "Kenzie" I said."Oliver, I'm... I'm sooo sorry." "It'sokay" we hug eachother. I can't believe itbut Kenzie is crying.

Today is the one year anniversary ofEmmy's death. I walk over to my window, thesun shines through. The sky is a clear blue

with no clouds. "Good morning Emmy" I say.Today is the day the newspaper will have mystory in it. It took me a whole year to

write. Hours of writing and rewriting. Irun downstirs. "Oliver, look!" Daniel hands

me the paper, there it is.

Emmy Elizabeth McAnderson died. She was killed by a drunkdriver. She died instantly. Emmy was my girlfriend. She was

from Dallas, Texas. We met at school because my locker wasnext to hers. Our first date was to see Wizard of Oz, which didn'tturn out so well. Emmy was and still is a very important personin my life. She was the nicest most sweetest person you willever meet. We were definetly in love. We had our ups anddowns of our relationship, everyone does. But Emmy, she wasspecial. There was something about her that made you want tosmile. She made me laugh and cry. We helped eachother through the hard times. In a nutshell, Emmy McAnderson was

an amazing girl. God has one more angel up there in heaven.She is that angel. I know she is looking down at me right now.She is saying I love you. Well Emmy, I love you too.
