The exceptional facet of it was it had less than 5,000 original miles. That, plus the fact it was Ruby Red, my color of choice, really got my interest. The back story is sad in that the owner has terminal cancer and needed to sell the car. Internet searches show that Ruby Red 2014 GT convertibles are rare and those that are available, regardless of color, have nearly as many miles as my ’07 had. The later S197’s had more standard equipment and better interiors vs the early ones. It has dual power heated seats, satellite radio, and the digital information center in the dash includes “track apps.” This was a great step up from my 2007 GT Premium convertible. I did have to correct one problem immediately. Even being virtually new mileage wise, it had aftermarket axle-backs. They sounded great outside the car but inside the drone would rattle your teeth. Dad would buy the car and sometime later sell it to the son (50ish in age). We made the deal and the next day the Dad and his wife came to pick it up. His wife loves the car so I don’t think son will get the car as soon as he thought he would. I’m happy I moved the car quickly and that it went

to someone that will appreciate it and care for it.

We’ve had some great fall weather allowing me to do a lot of cruising in the ’14, racking up nearly 3,000 miles since purchase. It’s a great cruiser and runs 25+ mpg cruising. Best if all is that 5.0 engine. With 420 HP it’s very responsive and is fantastic for passing slower cars

on two lane roads.

Opportunity knocked and I was able to take advantage of it quickly and now have moved up seven years in model,

gained a 5.0, and it’s virtually a new car. Can’t beat that.

In November we return to normal Pacific Time,

setting our clocks back one hour. Driving through Airway

Heights, Marcia saw a sign at one of the local businesses

that said it time to set your scales back 10 pounds. I

thought that was fitting for the Holiday Season at hand!

From Thanks Giving through January 1st, counted at least

8 Party/Eating events between family and club affiliations

we could attend. I’m hoping the couple extra holes in my

belt are enough.

We are all pretty fortunate compared to many. With our

Christmas Party coming up on Dec 9, I would request that

you think about those that aren’t as fortunate and bring

new items that can be given to Sally’s House for their

special young ones. Anything you can pick up and give is

appreciated more than you can imagine. Denny and Sharon

Jones has taken the lead on this project, we appreciate

their efforts in making the Sally’s House Donations happen.

Don’t forget Dog and Cat Food items that we can pass to

the Animal Shelters as well. As for ourselves, if you wish

to participate in our Club gift exchange, be sure and bring

a gift for each gift you wish in return. We have a spending

limit of around $20.

There will be NO Hot Chocolate Run in December, but I

will have the Club help select a January Hot Chocolate

location at the December meeting so the Activities

Committee will have time to get together after the first of

the year to plan the outings from February on.

The Health and Welfare Committee will work on our

yearly charitable donations. If you have suggestions for a

charitable donation please let the committee know. This

year’s donations may have already been selected, but it

doesn’t hurt to get your idea on the list.

December is always an important meeting. The elections will be held for next year’s leadership team. We will ask for volunteers to fill committee positions for next year too. If you have a specific committee you would like to

help on, please let us know at the meeting.

The Prez Says (cont.)

Helping on a committee has proven to be a great way to get involved and not just be a member. The outgoing officers and

directors will be in line to help the new position holders take over the reins.

I know I repeat myself occasionally, (well, a lot), but I feel it is important that I thank everyone for their support and

interest in making the IEMC one of the Best Clubs in the Northwest. I enjoyed my time as President and I hope I met the

task at hand without goofing too many things up. I was always in good company and with people willing to point the way.

Marcia and I want to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday Season, and will be looking forward to next year’s gatherings and

events. (Drop the Mic)

Club Members Gain Sisters Via Ancestry.com

Carl Sontowski Story Published

The Spokane Spokesman Review recently featured one of our own IEMC club members, Carl Sontowski, in an article about his recent discovery that he has a half-sister. According to the article, Carl never knew there could be more family members as his mother never spoke of her earlier pregnancy. Carl’s half-sister, Lindsay Lee, was born about fourteen years before Carl and before Carl’s mother married his father. The father of Lindsay remains a mystery, so far. The happy happenstance came about due to the January 2017 unsealing of Lee’s birth records by the Sas-katchewan Ministry of Social Services which revealed her mother’s full maiden name, Jean Clarissa Yuill. Lee then used Ancestry.com to track down several cousins and eventually Carl’s aunt, who then contacted Carl. The article goes on to say that the newly discovered siblings have been emailing almost daily and by the time this newsletter prints they will have spent their first Thanksgiving together. Carl is looking forward to meet-ing many more members of his extended family in the days and years to come, especially his brother-in-law who shares interests in guns and cars.

Denis Hill Finds Sister Through Ancestry.com

In a round-about way, Denis Hill was given a sister for Christmas last year. Denis had been aware that his mother gave birth when she was 17 years old, and in the stress and challenges of life, chose to give the baby up for adoption. Of course there was regret and sadness associated with the decision but she tried to do the best thing for the baby girl. Denis and Stefani’s daughter Josie had been wanting to trace her ancestry through one of the many internet search companies for quite some time. The Ancestry.com ads had kindled a curiosity in her that was growing. In December she received and completed the DNA testing. The results produced a surprise, another Ancestry.com user showed up on the report as a probable 1st cousin, which is extremely rare. That information led Josie to a Facebook correspondence with a Idaho Falls woman. Eventually, the “friend request” (which was ignored by Denis because it was just someone his daughter was communicating with) posted to Denis’s Facebook page was accepted and the discovery was fully disclosed: the Idaho Falls woman is indeed Denis’s long separated sister, Heidi Meier. Denis and Stefani have since met with his Sister a couple of times and are looking forward to future get-togethers and correspondence.

New Members – Nadine Smith:

Bill and Trink have His and Hers ‘99 and 2001 Cobras they’ve owned for a couple years. Their first Mustang went to their

daughter in Florida, so they recently purchased replacements. They have a lot of Mustangs in their family.

Travis is rejoining us after taking a break for a few years. Unfortunately he lost his Mustang in a divorce but he still has a ‘77

Thunderbird with lots of mods and a ‘58 Mercury.

President’s Comment

Tom asked everyone to give themselves a round of applause for all the help members have given to various efforts through-

out the year so far.

Minutes

Motion to approve minutes was approved unanimously.

Committee Reports:

Treasury Report – Treasurer – Tom Morris (standing in for Jerry Searfoss):

Finances continue to be stable.

Activity Report – Nadine Smith and Rose:

October Ice Cream Run was at Ron’s Drive-In. About 20 people showed up for dinner and conversation.

November Hot Chocolate Run will be at McKenzie River Pizza on North Nevada on the 21st at 6:30 pm. A sign-in sheet was passed for this. We need to give them a rough estimate of how many will attend to let Nadine know as soon as possi-

ble if you can attend or if you signed up and can’t.

Buck Knives tour is on Thursday Nov. 16th at 10:00 am. A sign-up sheet was sent around for those interested. Meet at

Yoke’s on Montgomery in Spokane Valley at 9:00 am, depart for Post Falls at 9:15 am.

Christmas Party will be at Darcy’s again on December 9th, beginning at 5:00 pm with dinner to start about 6:00 pm. There will also be a gift exchange after dinner; bring items with a max value of $20 for each person that wishes to participate. Pricing for dinner will be $10 per member (up to 2 per membership), children under 10 will be free, 10 and over are $5, and guests will be $19. A sign-up sheet went around to get an estimate of how many people will be attending. Dinner will be prime rib, salmon, and chicken cordon bleu with salad and sides. Denny will be collecting donated items for Sally’s house. There is a big need for shoes, boys’ size 13 and 1-2, girls’ size 1-2. Another big hit among the kids is Lego kits, craft supplies, Aquabeads, board games (except Monopoly!), and jigsaw puzzles for younger kids. Sally’s House has a library so books are not necessary. The number one requested clothing item is zip-up hoodies from Toddler up to Child XL sizes and jeans, boys’ 5-8 and girls’ 10-12 sizes. They’ve had a major donation of pajamas but any other clothing items are appreciated. All items must be new and unwrapped; leave the original tags on. There will also be boxes for donations for SCRAPS or

the Spokane Humane Society; both are No-Kill facilities. Donations can include pet food, treats, blankets, or cash.

Lee Bronson is in a retirement home up north and Jeff has organized a surprise gathering for members to meet up and give

him some company.

Auctions – Carl Sontowski

As Carl will be running for president next year, we will need a new member to head up the Auctions committee and work with Mitch

at Silver’s car auctions. We need to have someone lined up by February.

Health and Welfare – Vicki West, Sue Manly:

Jana has stepped down from this committee, Vicki will now head this up.

Vi let us know that Sue is doing well after knee surgery and will be beginning physical therapy soon. She’s feeling much better but still

using a walker.

Motorsports – Barry Barton, Gary Gunning, Kim Frank, Dave Brink:

All quiet for the season.

International Mustang Meet (IMM) – Carl Sontowski, Doug Pickett, Brad Jordan:

Nothing new.

Apparel – Doug Pickett and Zac Zaccanti:

No updates this month.

Historian – Michelle Huck:

Nothing new.

Website – Barry Barton:

The website has been updated with information about next year’s International Mustang Meet.

Facebook – Michelle Huck:

The Facebook page continues to grow.

INCCC – Jack Bean:

The Show No Shine will be in February. Some members have already purchased their tickets. It’s really a great time and Jack and Toni

have attended every year since they moved back to Spokane. The council is made up of about 60 clubs and their big show of the year

is the Downtown Car Show in Spokane that benefits their scholarship program. Over the years they have awarded about $250,000 in

scholarships to deserving young people. They would like to start up their auction program again to raise even more money, but they

need lots of volunteers for various roles to help make this happen. Jack White is the chairperson for the auction program and unfor-

tunately his wife has had some health issues and has taken a turn for the worst so he needs all the help he can get.

Newsletter

Kim encouraged anyone, particularly new members, to get their car featured as Pony of the Month. It’s a great way for the club to get

to know you. He’s also getting a lot of bounced back emails, especially from Comcast.net and Yahoo addresses. If you’re missing the

newsletter, please let him know.

New Ponies & Modifications: Carl Sontowski picked up a ‘67 Mustang Convertible with a 302 automatic that he plans to fix up over the winter and sell in the spring. He also got a new half-sister; a child that was adopted at a young age contacted him recently and will be joining his family for Thanks-giving.

Crafty Club Member Keeps Busy

Marsha Sundberg just completed the fall run of the Craft Show circuit. I caught up with her at the Central Valley high school show and was amazed at the variety and quality of the hand made crafts, knick knacks, do-dads, textiles, and all sorts of other thingies. She likes Mustang themes items and sells quite a few of them. Another favorite seller is Seahawk gear, which I’ll admit to buying from her in the past. Keep up the good work Marsha, I love it! - Editor
