We continue to develop and innovate as an organisatin and now run courses covering every surgical specialty in the UK, an annual conference, mentoring schemes, medical student activities, international training courses and global surgery initiatives. Further we award multiple bursaries, have a seat on numerous national committees and have published a number of national position statements. The Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) is an independent professional body and registered charity which works to promote the highest standards

in surgical training.

The Association was originally established in 1976 and will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2016. It now counts numerous professional leaders, senior

consultants and Royal College Presidents amongst its’ alumni.

It is one of the largest surgical specialty associations in the UK with over 2,700 members,.ASiT’s members come from all ten surgical specialties. It is the only body in the UK to represent trainees from all surgical specialties at both Core and Higher Surgical Training levels.

Each year ASiT runs the largest conference for surgical trainees in the UK and Ireland, and has over the past number of years been attracting increasing numbers of international delegates. The ASiT 2016 Conference will be held in the impressive city of Liverpool and is

set to be our largest meeting to date- attracting over 700 trainees and consultants from all 10 surgical specialties, as well training programme directors and representatives from training

bodies.
