MovingforwardOur campaign to renovate the 1925 bank building adjacent to the theatre is in the works. By the spring we will have lots of good news and a solid timeline for the renovation work.
In the meantime, restoration of the façade was completed last fall. The architectural cast stone on the face of the building was repointed, the windows were restored and the light fixtures were cleaned and repaired. In the evenings, the building is nicely lit and adds to the downtown streetscape.
This portion of the project was paid for in part by a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant awarded to ACT by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A very special thank you to Senator Andy Dinniman and Representative Warren Kampf for their support of this project and assistance in procuring the funding.

Bringin’ Back the Baconsfor Conservation and CultureSeptember 2013
A message from the PresidentThe production of this annual report is one of the most satisfying projects we complete each year. It provides us internally with one final opportunity to reflect on the past year. More importantly, however, it provides us the privilege of acknowledging the contributions all of you make to our efforts, without which our work would be impossible. Over the past fifteen years, literally thousands of you have joined in those efforts. Our hopes for the next fifteen years will depend in large part on the strength and resolve of the team we have built thus far. So, on behalf of ACT’s Board of Directors, I want to take this moment to say how grateful we are to have you on our team!
Kenneth Mumma, President of the Board of Directors
Dear Friends,
August 31, 2014 marked the completion of fifteen successful years as the stewards of the Colonial Theatre for ACT. And what a time it has been. We have built many strong partnerships with other organizations including: Point Entertainment, City Rhythm Orchestra, Firebird Theatre, Theatre Organ Society of the Delaware Valley, French and Pickering Creek Conservation Trust and Phoenixville Library.
These relationships have allowed us to bring wonderful entertainment to the stage of the Colonial with the experience and expertise of the members of those organizations.
Internally we have vibrant and active committees providing input on amazing programming. For example: TEDxPhoenixville Committee, Blobfest Committee, Classic Film Committee, Horror and Cult Film Committee and Special Events Committee.
The staff could not provide the variety and creativity that you experience at the Colonial without these volunteers and their commitment to the theatre and the community.
Blobfest 14 was our best ever. The Runout sold out in less than ten minutes!! After a raucous stage show with monsters and mayhem, 350 people came spilling out of the Colonial fleeing for their lives as a nod to the famous scene in the movie The Blob.
Our collaboration with French and Pickering Creek Conservation Trust continues to bring the Bacon Brothers back to Phoenixville and allows both organizations the opportunity to raise funds necessary for our sustainability.
Your gifts are also so important and have been a big reason for our success these many years.
We so look forward to the extra space next door. It will guarantee more of everything. More film, more live events, more special events and lots more
room to meet friends and make the Colonial your top spot to socialize. The campaign to renovate the 1925 bank building is in the works. You
will be hearing from us very soon on how you can help. This next step for ACT, the Colonial and our community cannot be overstated.
Phoenixville will experience the next level of revitalization!!
It is always great to see you here enjoying the programming at the Colonial and this great town. Thank you for your
support and enjoy this reflection on our past year.
Mary Foote, Executive Director
Mission Statement
The mission of the Association for the Colonial Theatre is to enhance
the collective well being of our region by restoring the landmark Colonial Theatre and promoting
cultural, economic and civic life. To this end, ACT presents film,
live theatre, music, dance and other community events in the heart
of Phoenixville’s historic business district.
Special EventsJoin us at one of our traditions in this coming year. Meet new people, see old friends and remember the great feeling of connection that occurs every time you visit the Colonial.
10th Annual Members’ Party “American Hustle’s” 70’s glam was the prevailing look at our annual celebration of movies and members! Party sponsor Cathy Calhoun and hosts Joel Rickenbach, Brendan Carr and Chuck Francisco expertly guided us through a night of celebrity selfies, Academy Awards, movie trivia and film-inspired music by Oscar and the Colonials. This event has become a much anticipated and enjoyed party for members,
staff and volunteers alike! Looking forward to seeing all of you there in 2015!
7th Annual Robert Burns Memorial Whisky TastingEach year around Robert Burns Birthday a group of stalwart whisky lovers gather for an educational evening of fine whiskies, cheeses, chocolates and fun!! The event sold out well before Christmas because it is a great gift idea for the whisky lover in your family. Very special thank you to Riannon Walsh, author of Whisky Dreams for insights and knowledge of single malt whiskies around the world.
BlobfestYes it is a bit confusing, the 15th Blobfest in the year 2014, but something has always been a little off about this ever growing fest!! This past summer was great fun. Our attendees were the main attraction this year. The costumes for the contest were great, and there were so many this year. The Friday night runners deftly maneuvered past the new planters and light poles – our first Runout with the streetscapes complete. Plans are in the works already for next July – join us on Facebook so you don’t miss a thing.

*Film ProgrammingThis year our concert programming decreased quite a bit due to show availability and scheduling conflicts. It is interesting to see what impact that has on our film programming. When there are less concerts there are more weeks available for us to bring in new film releases, which in turn affects movie attendance and box office receipts. Our expansion plans will allow us to bring both a full schedule of concerts and great film in the same week. For more information on our progress go to the “Moving Forward” panel of this report.

Sex, Drugs and Rock & RollIt’s Not What You Think!
The theme of TEDxPhoenixville 2014 gave organizers, presenters and attendees a broad backdrop on which to paint ideas. Our eye-opening, humorous, provocative, educational and inspired talks included “A Speaker’s Guide to Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll,”
“Confessions of a Drug Dealer,” “Better Medicine, Faster,” “Female Sexual Shame Hurts Us All,” and “Lessons from the Land” to name only a few. You can watch all of our talks at www.tedxtalks.ted.com.
Early on in the year we had another great opportunity to showcase our favorite band, The Bacon Brothers. This event is a wonderful collaboration between ACT and the French and Pickering Creek Conservation Trust. Our sponsors were wonderful and everyone had a great time!!
The Colonial Theatre's First Friday Fright Night and Cult Cinema film series saw many genre classics invade our screen this past year, and committee members Brendan, Nick, Chuck, Bob and Joel have upped the ante in the new year with a particularly devious menagerie of monsters, madmen and mayhem. One aspect of our series that has taken on a life of it's own is the original posters created by local artist for each of our screenings. This new wave of poster art has grabbed hold of film fans and collectors alike, and the Colonial has been on the cusp of the new wave. We have cultivated some amazing talent to bring our screenings to life, and their work has put our film series in the conversation across the film world. So much so that a new documentary on poster art, Twenty-Four by Thirty-Six, filmed on location at the theatre. Look for the documentary, all the great FFFN/CCC programming and, of course, the posters in 2015!

will be hearing from us very soon on how you can help. This next step for ACT, the Colonial and our community cannot be overstated.
Phoenixville will experience the next level of revitalization!!
It is always great to see you here enjoying the programming at the Colonial and this great town. Thank you for your
support and enjoy this reflection on our past year.
