NOTES FROM THE DESK OF
DAVYA COHEN, HOA PRESIDENT
As always, Jean & Tom Baxter and their committee, consisting of Judy Wilbert and Mary Wilson, did another outstanding job organizing and setting everything up at our last neighborhood breakfast. Food was exceptional, conversation stimulating and the weather cooperative. The only thing that would have made it better was if everyone in our neighborhood was able to join us. Looking to our next neighborhood social. Thank you all again.
It was brought to my attention following the breakfast that a few of the newer residents present were surprised to find out that Highgate has it’s own wonderful lending library. The library is located in the bathroom of our pool building. All residents are welcome to trade books, borrow books and return them (or not), donate books they no longer want and take books that they do want. I hope everyone will enjoy our library, contribute to it and help it grow.
If you haven’t already noticed … a new pool rule sign has been posted at the pool. Please review the rules the next time you use the pool.
We still don’t have a start date for the repair of our retention areas but we are hoping the job will be completed before the monsoon rains arrives. We will post it as soon as we know.
I am sure many of you have already noticed they have started clearing the land for the new neighborhood that will be built across McCarty from us. They have created a new road from LaCholla and all the construction trucks will be using this new road, however, once the development is completed the entrance to their gated community will be from McCarty. The temporary road will become the entrance to the 3 apartment buildings. (See articles and maps for additional information on changes surrounding our neighborhood)
A special thanks to Steve Magelli for replacing the solar lights at the front entrance between the exit and entrance gates and the battery operated lights at our mailbox.
Just in case you haven’t noticed, thanks to Roger Spring’s hard work, communication is improving within our community. Watch for other new changes in the future. While you’re at it, don’t forget to check out our Highgate Homeowners Association web site at www.highgatehoa.org. Thanks to Jerry Matlock, there is lots of outstanding detailed information available for you on this site.

New Home Developments near our Highgate community
Kachina Homes at McCarty Road– As we are all well aware, this new development by kachina
Homes (http://kachinacustomhomes.com/#) recently started the land preparation and leveling process.
All construction related traffic is slated to enter and exit onto La Cholla Boulevard.
The upper portion of this gated community will include 25 custom built homes. Minimum lot sizes vary
from nearly 5,000 square feet to over 6,300 square feet. Entry and exit will be onto McCarty Road,
south of our community. Improvements to McCarty Road for this development are included in the plans.
For the lower portion of the property, three multi-family buildings are planned with eight units per
building, for a total of 24 units. Entry and exit will be onto La Cholla Road.

www.kbhome.com/new-homes-tucson/montaretto-estates) 95 single-story homes and is nearly two
thirds complete. The community includes seven different floor plans ranging in size from 1,231 to 2,413
square feet.

Thank you neighbors for donating a significant amount of food for the US Postal Service annual Food Bank food drive in
May!
Overton Reserve– La Canada Drive & Overton Road— This Lennar development (https://
www.lennar.com/) off Overton started last year is now has all streets and utilities installed. Several new
homes, including the model home(s) near the entrance, are currently under construction in the northern
portion of the development which includes 83 lots on 39 acres. The southern portion of this development
includes 23 larger lots on 19.6 acres. All vehicular traffic for the entire subdivision will enter and exit on
Overton Road.
Retention Basin Improvements Planned
Over the 20 years of our community infrastructure, we have noticed that the rainwater from the years of
monsoons had eroded under the rock area, just below the street as it enters the northwest retention basin.
With Steve Magelli’s recommendation, the board pursued multiple bids and has approved Rockridge
Construction to make the necessary improvements in both retention basins. We are hopeful given the very
busy construction season that the improvements will be made before the monsoon season hits full swing.

OFFICE ~ 520-382-1009
Thank you for choosing Titan Recycle and Trash for your waste services! To ensure trash and recycle pickup, please have materials out by 6:00 am on the day of pickup. Landscape debris or trimmings must be in a container or tied/bundled so that they can be easily picked up
by hand. Items not in compliance may not be picked up. Please box and label sharp items, such as thorns and cactus. Our drivers may not pick up unless they are
contained. We DO NOT accept: wet paints, motor oil, automotive waste, construction materials, or any materials
generated by an outside contractor. FAQ:
“Why isn’t my trash picked up at the same time every week”?
Every attempt at maintaining a consistent schedule each day is made however; there are many
factors that affect the routes such as: trash volume, weather, traffic, equipment malfunctions,
and special pickups. Please allow the drivers the full service day to pick up your trash before
taking it in or calling to report non-pickup. Regardless of your “usual” pickup time, please have
all materials out by 6:00 am on your service day to ensure pickup.
Non-Recyclable Materials:
Plastic Bags Yard / landscape debris
Wide-mouth plastic containers/tubs/buckets/pails
Paper plates, cups, towels, napkins, tissue paper
