Associate Scientific Director – Patient Education Maintain up-to-date knowledge of issues to guide content development of patient/caregivers education activities in multiple therapeutic areas; Quickly acquire knowledge of therapeutic areas, as needed; Develop patient/caregiver educational content consistent with accredited educational standards, regulations and requirements (for example, ANCC, ACPE, and IACET) Collaborate with directors of medical strategy and directors of medical education to develop grant proposals by determining the appropriateness and feasibility of the proposed educational plan for patients/caregivers; Recruit clinical experts to server as advisors for patient/caregiver content that is consistent with the goals, objectives, and focus described in grant proposals; Conduct small-group meetings in person and via teleconference with internal team members, faculty, collaborative partners, vendors as necessary to support content development; Prepare writers/actors for the development of multimedia segments by drafting content outlines, and intervening when necessary during videotaping/audiotaping; Edit (clinical edit and line edit) content for organization, clarity, medical accuracy, alignment with grant proposal vision, heath literacy/plain language and appropriateness for a lay audience; Deliver assignments according to specified timelines; Maintain friendly and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders through clear articulation and an effective communication style Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement Function independently in all of the above. Proven editorial skills* and experience in a patient education within a broad variety of medical therapeutic areas Well versed in AMA style Ability to efficiently coordinate and work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a highly deadline-driven environment Advanced skill level in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook required; skill level in Excel and Adobe Acrobat

Developmental: coordinating and editing a project from proposal or rough manuscript to final manuscript, incorporating input from authors, consultants, and reviewersSubstantive/structural: clarifying and/or reorganizing a manuscript for content and structure

Stylistic: clarifying meaning, eliminating jargon, smoothing language and other nonmechanical line-by-line editing; may include checking or correcting reading level

Rewriting: creating a new manuscript or parts of a manuscript on the basis of content and research supplied by a writer; may include some research and writing of original material 

•    3 to 5 years related work experience, preferably in a large academic center or patient-focused agency, association, foundation, and/or professional medical publisher •    It is preferable for the candidate to have a clinical medical degree/background (eg, RN, RD, NP, PA, MPH, PharmD, PhD), although years of experience in the medical education field may be considered in lieu of this requirement•    Familiarity with medical terminology and/or medical publishing/environment standards and editorial processes preferred•    Substantial knowledge of clinical medicine is helpful; experience in patient/caregiver content development, clinical writing and editing required•    Substantial knowledge of health literacy and use of plain language •    Willingness to travel; travel estimated at 5% to 15%
