Biology DTA/MRP (AA) A. Basic Requirements1. Communication Skills

ENGL& 101 and ENGL& 102Students may instead use selected Communication Skills [C] courses as identified and approved in the General AA-DTA. These may be individualized based on transfer intent.

2. Quantitative/Symbolic ReasoningStudents must complete 5 units from the following list:

MATH 140 - Calculus for Life Sciences MATH& 151 - Calculus I ^MATH& 146 - Statistics ^^MATH& 148 - Business Calculus

^: Semester schools such as WSU may require both MATH& 151 and MATH& 152 to meet their calculus requirement. Please check with your intended transfer school early on to make this determination.^^: Statistics (a course that includes descriptive and inferential statistics) may substitute for Calculus I at some institutions; students are encouraged to check with the transfer institution early in their decision process to confirm requirements.

B. Distribution Requirements1. Humanities

Humanities subjects as defined in the Clark College catalog. No more than 10 units per discipline area, 5 units maximum in worldlanguages or ASL. No more than 5 units of performance/skills List B [HB] courses are allowed.

2. Social SciencesSocial Science subjects as defined in the Clark College catalog. Select coursework from at least two (2) areas of discipline; nomore than 10 units per discipline area.

A. Basic Requirements1. May be individualized based on baccalaureate college of choice. 2. Statistics (a course that includes descriptive and inferential statistics) may substitute for Calculus I at some institutions; students are encouraged to check with the transfer

institution early in their decision process to confirm requirements. 3. Intermediate Algebra proficiency may be demonstrated by successful completion of a Calculus and/or Statistics course for which Intermediate Algebra is a prerequisite.

B. Distribution Requirements1. In order to better prepare for successful transfer, students are encouraged to consult with the institution(s) to which they wish to transfer regarding the humanities

courses that best support or may be required as prerequisites to their Biology curriculum. 2. In order to better prepare for successful transfer, students are encouraged to consult with the institution(s) to which they wish to transfer regarding the social science

courses that best support or may be required as prerequisites to their Biology curriculum. 3. A full year sequence at a single college is the best preparation for the baccalaureate biology degree.

C. Electives1. Electives allow students to include additional courses to prepare for the biology major based on college selection. Examples include a full year sequence of organic

chemistry for majors; a full year sequence of physics for science majors; or further math at the pre-calculus level or above or statistics.

C. Electives14 additional college-level units so that total units earned is at least 90 quarter units. These remaining courses may include prerequisites for major courses (e.g., CHEM& 139, Math 102/103 and 110/111), additional major coursework, general education, or other university requirements. Students should check with the transfer institution prior to taking any further biology courses beyond the one-year sequence. Some colleges require all continuing biology courses be taken at the 300 level.
