THE DEPARTMENTThe Public Works Department is collegial, respectful and inclusive. It provides a safe environment and an enhanced quality of life to the people of Marin County. We maintain and improve the public infrastructure and provide timely and cost effective support to other County departments. The Department has over 200 employees across 21 divisions, which include: administration, accounting, Marin County Airport, building maintenance, capital projects, communications, garage, Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA), disability access, engineering, flood control, land use, Marin Emergency Radio Authority, print shop, purchasing, real estate, roads, traffic operations transportation, and waste management.

THE JOBThis position currently oversees six divisions and/or organizational units. Division assignments are subject to change from time to time by the Director, to better align with Assistant/Deputy Director skills, or to provide career growth opportunities. The current assignment includes:

This is an at-will position that reports directly to the Director of Public Works, oversees approximately 5 direct and 43 indirect staff, and an $11 million operational budget and various other initiatives, engineering, and capital project budgets. This position is part of the Department’s executive team and will promote a culture that inspires creative thinking, engagement, collaboration, and supports work-life balance.

(MERA) Next Generation Radio Communications System Project

uDelivering an aggressive $50 million road rehabilitation program over the next several years, including two Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) projects near Muir Woods National Monument and Point Reyes National Seashore.

uGuiding the Marin County Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program (MCSTOPPP) to fulfill requirements of the State’s Phase II Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System. (Small MS4) General Permit.

uBe a licensed Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of California, or if currently licensed in another state be able and willing to obtain a California Professional Civil Engineer’s License within 12 months of hire.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS In addition to the above ideal candidate competencies, candidates shall:

COMPENSATION & BENEFITSSalary: $152,402–$167,690 annually DOE/DOQ Salary is supplemented by a generous benefit program that includes the following elements:

Retirement (37 Act): 2% @ 62 for new employees and reciprocity with CalPERS.

The County does not participate in Social Security except for the mandatory Medicare contribution.

Insurance: cafeteria-style benefits plan that allows employees to choose from a variety of health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance plans.

Leave Allowances: generous vacation, personal, management, and sick leave benefits plus 11 paid holidays annually.

Deferred Compensation: tax deferred 457 plan to which employees may contribute to enhance their retirement.
