The Location of Slums

Most urban poor now live in slum communities which are located on the outskirts of bigger third world cities.

Slums are typically formed in areas where no one else wants to live, such as where sewage is dumped.

Actions of the Government

The Government tends to try to go in and clean up the slums, but they end up just moving the poor to new places.

Most of the time the government does absolutely nothing to help out the poor people of slums.

Sometimes the government provides housing, but it really doesn’t help the poor, only the middle class.

Diseases in Slums

Over 36 million people have HIV/AIDS in the world.

95% of these people are in the slums of the global south.

Tuberculosis and

malaria also ravage

the poor of the

slums.

Job Outlooks

There are over 1 billion people who are identified as the informal working class.

There are not enough jobs for the number of people, and many are without work and cannot escape their poverty.

The severe lack of jobs

results in opportunity for

exploitation.

Future of Slums

Because of migration enforcement, the poor are restricted from well off countries.

Slums worldwide are said to grow by 25 million people a year.

The available land is diminishing for squatters and the poor.

The real question is will the

poor eventually have had

enough and revolt.
