A Fight for Higher Wages

Teamsters 657 have been on strike since 2011.

Why? To get higher wages to meet rising healthcare costs.

I wanted to use these photos to represent resistance to an organization. The Teamsters are a union that have been actively fighting for workers rights across the country. The Teamsters are comprised of warehouse workers, tank haulers, solid waste workers, rail workers, public services, port workers, newspaper, magazine, and electronic media, industrial trades, freight workers, food processing, dairy, building materials and construction, bakery and laundry workers and numerous others.

Our local Teamster 657 is on strike against C.H. Guenther & Son in San Antonio, TX. C.H. Guenther & Son is mostly known for Pioneer Flour Mill. The company makes Pioneer brand baking and cooking mixes. The local Teamster 657 are demanding a raise in wages to counter the rising healthcare costs they are incurring. They are also speaking out about safety. The union feels that there is inequality with safety within the organization. The union filed charges against the company with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) accusing C.H. Guenther & Son of illegally surveying striking workers.
