Architecture & Engineering
Sixth grade students study architecture and engineering with our external partners, the Center for Architecture and the Salvadori Center for the Built Environment.
Medicine
In the seventh grade, through our partnerships with Classroom inc, St. John’s University, and Queens College, our students explore medicine and nutrition, as well as career opportunities in the field of health. They meet medical professionals, such as physician assistants and pharmacists, and learn about their jobs and responsibilities.
Social Justice
Eighth grade students confront ethical and moral issues and learn to be responsible citizens, through an exploration of history and current events. Eighth graders work with partners including Urban Advantage science program, The Tolerance Center, Facing History and Ourselves, and Rachel’s Challenge.

School of Applied Sciences
At Bleeker 185 our students discover how science and technology can improve the world. The ASPIRES magnet program, dedicated to the Applied Sciences, integrates the themes of Architecture/Engineering, Medicine, and Social Justice across the middle school curriculum.
Through our magnet themes our students are introduced to diverse professions and are offered opportunities to engage in rigorous intellectual discussions and research solutions for global issues that face us. Our programs enhance critical and creative thinking skills and foster values and behaviors required for the challenges of high school and college.
Further opportunities for students to engage in the magnet themes are offered by our after-school partners including the Hall of Science, and Science Olympiad Inc. Our extensive free after-school program offers many activities including sports, fine arts, technology, academics, robotics, and culinary arts.
