Screeds

The AP755 is available with the AS3251 screed and the AS4251 screed both available with variablefrequency tamper and vibrators andwith LPG and electric heating system.Also available are the RB 5700 hydraulic LPG screed and the RMBmechanical LPG screeds. Auxiliary Rear Control Panel

Cat C7 Engine with ACERT TechnologyACERT Technology incorporates a series of innovations working at the point of combustionto optimize engine performance while providing high reliability and easy servicing.

Cat C7 Engine with ACERT Technology.The C7 engine provides a full-rated grosspower (SAE J1995) of 149 kW (202 hp) at 2200 rpm with a torque of 783 Nm.Meets European EU Stage IIIA engineemission regulations. The combination of large displacement andhigh torque allow the AP755 to performunder the toughest conditions.

HEUI™ fuel injection. The hydraulicallyactuated electronic unit injectors (HEUI)fuel system is unique and combines thetechnical advancement of an electroniccontrol system with the simplicity of HEUIfuel injection. The HEUI fuel system excelsin its ability to control injection pressureover the entire engine operating speedrange. These features allow the C7 engine to have complete control over injectiontiming, duration and pressure.

Multiple injection fuel delivery. Multipleinjection fuel delivery involves a highdegree of precision. Precisely shaping thecombustion cycle lowers combustionchamber temperatures, which generatesfewer emissions, optimizes fuel combustionand translates into more work output foryour fuel cost.

Turbocharged and Air-To-AirAftercooling (ATAAC). Theturbocharged air-to-air aftercoolingsystem provides high horsepower withincreased response time while keepingexhaust temperatures low for longhours of continuous operation. Air-to-air aftercooling keeps air intaketemperatures down, maximizing fuelefficiency and minimizing emissions.

High cylinder pressures. High cylinderpressures combined with tightlycontrolled tolerances promoteextremely efficient fuel burn, less blow-by and lower emissions.

C7 cylinder block. The C7 engine’scylinder block offers increased tensilestrength. It features improved sealingwith gaskets to ensure fewer leaks. This new design supports the engine’shigher compression ratios and increasesits power density. The incorporation ofstraight-thread “O” ring connectionpoints reduce the loss of engine oil andfluids.

Sound reduction features. The C7engine sound reduction features includecomposite valve covers with a fullyisolated base, a steel oil pan and a castiron front cover. The HEUI™ fuelsystems rate-shaping technology alsoprovides control of sound and vibrationlevels.

Service, maintenance and repair.Easier service, maintenance and repairis accomplished by monitoring keyfunctions and logging criticalindicators. Advanced electronicdiagnostic capabilities are possibleusing CAT Electronic Technician.

ADEM™ A4 electronic control module.The ADEM A4 electronic controlmodule manages fuel delivery, valvetiming and airflow to get the mostperformance per liter of fuel used. The control module provides flexiblefuel mapping, allowing the engine torespond quickly to varying applicationneeds. The control module alsomonitors engine and machineconditions while keeping the engine at peak efficiency.

Cooling system. The high capacitycooling system provides efficientoperation in high ambienttemperatures. The system promotesoperator comfort by drawing ambientair through the engine compartmentand exhausting it on the right side ofthe machine, away from the operator.

UndercarriageThe steel track undercarriage provides optimum weight distribution, tractive effort assuringgreat performance.

Two rubber shoe crawlers. The track-type asphalt paverprovides a reliable, smooth ride. The optimum tension of thetracks is assured by a grease piston with a shock absorbingsystem.

Bonded track pads. The track pads contain a special rubbercompound in order to provide long life and optimum traction.Pads are attached with four bolts for easy replacement.

Two-speed planetary drive. Two fixed displacement motorsdrive two-speed planetary track drive gearboxes in order toprovide infinitely variable speed selection.

Propel SystemEfficient hydrostatic propel system eliminates chains and other mechanical linkagesbetween the engine and final drive components.

Closed-loop hydrostatic propel system. Provides accuratecontrol of propulsion and low-maintenance operation.

Hydrostatic pumps. Two variable displacement, hydrostaticpumps are driven by the diesel engine and drive two fixeddisplacement motors. Pumps are infinitely variable andelectronically controlled for starting and stopping ramps.

Speed control. Infinite speed selection within two propelranges: one in working mode and one in travel mode, to selectthe best speed range according to operating modes.

Propulsion control. An electro-proportional servo-controlprovides machine starting and stopping (for asphalt supply,etc.) with no pre-set working speed variation.

Mechanical benefits. Because the system is completelyhydrostatic, there are no mechanical linkages such as gearcases, transmissions or chains between the engine power take-off and the drive system. This results in a significantreduction in mechanical parts and less chance for mechanicalfailure.

Operator’s StationThe dual operator stations provide complete control and optimum visibility from either sideof the operating platform.

Dual operator stations. The ergonomic dual operator stationsincorporate two adjustable suspension seats fitted onmechanically sliding semi-platforms.

Enhanced visibility. Both operator seats and console panel aremounted on pivoting pedestals enabling the operator to rotateeither to the left or right. The stations can extend beyond themachine frame for optimum visibility when joint matching orwhile paving other applications where precise control isrequired. With the engine mounted forward and low in frame,the operator is positioned away from engine heat and exhaust.

Control console. The sliding operator’s console panel is fullyequipped with comprehensive controls allowing the operator to conveniently monitor all machine functions. A multifunctional LCD-display fitted to the console panelprovides detailed information regarding the operating para-meters of machine and engine. A lockable vandal coverprotects console controls.

Canopy option. Two optional canopies are available: foldingcanopy or hydraulic raising canopy. Both canopies provide full width with two side extending wings for optimum comfort and protection. Canopies can be lowered (manually or hydraulically) for easy transportation.

Material Handling SystemPrecise mix delivery and productivity through an advanced material handling system.

Hoppers. The independent movement of thetwo hoppers is provided by means of twohydraulic cylinders assuring efficientmaterial flow. Wear-resisting steel providesconveyors and hopper bottom plate for longwear life.

Feeding conveyors. Two feeding conveyorsare independently controlled andproportionally driven by two ultrasonicsensors. Conveyor rotation can also beinverted from either operator’s console panelor from rear screed control boxes. Conveyors have drive chains to maximize the live conveyor area and reduce center linesegregation. This design also provides greaterease of servicing the conveyor drive system. In order to control mix delivery, theoperator sets a speed rate for each conveyorthat will maintain the desired mix level inthe left and right auger chambers.

Optimum productivity. The materialhandling system allows the operator tomaintain an uninterrupted flow ofmaterial from the hoppers to thescreed. The system is responsible formaintaining the proper head ofmaterial - the volume of asphalt infront of and across the length of thescreed.

Auger assembly. Two independentlycontrolled augers spread the materialconveyed to both sides. Auger rotationspeed can be varied automatically toensure a homogeneous distribution ofmaterial before the screed. Two ultrasonic wave detectors controlproportional augers movement and can be adjusted from the screed control boxes.Conveyors and augers design eliminatevoids under chain case to minimizesegregation.Augers have outboard mounted motorsfor easy serviceability.

Adjustable height auger assembly.Augers are reversible andhydraulically adjustable in heightproviding benefits to mat quality and better distribution of material in front of the screed. The ability to raise the auger assemblysimplifies loading and unloading froma transport vehicle. Also, whenworking with larger stone mixes,segregation can often be eliminated or minimized by raising the augers toallow mix to flow unrestricted underauger assembly.

Industrial, continuous-duty generator. Working range from1250 to 2200 rpm provides high reliability and low soundlevels.

Single control switch. A single control switch located on thetractor’s operating console activates the generator.

Full power. The integrated, tractor-mounted generator providesfull power to the electric screed while the engine is operating from 1250 rpm.

Circuit breaker protection. Extend service life and internalelectronic voltage regulation system provides consistent power.

Optional Generator SystemContinuous-duty integrated design ensures peak performance and high reliability.

Auxiliary Rear Control PanelFull control of tamper and vibrators frequencies for easy ground crew usage.

ScreedsElectric heated, LPG hydraulic and mechanical screeds combine the flexibility to matchequipment to operator preferences or job requirements.

Screed choices. The AP755 is available with the AS3251screed and the AS4251 screed both available with variablefrequency tamper and vibrators and with LPG and electricheating system. Also available are the RB 5700 hydraulic LPG screed and the RMB mechanical LPG screeds.

AS3251 screed. Hydraulic power extendible asphalt screed, it paves from 2500 mm to 4700 mm. With solid extensionsadded to both sides, maximum paving width is 7500 mm.

AS4251 screed. Double width hydraulic power extendibleasphalt screed, it paves from 2500 mm to 5000 mm. With solid extensions added to both sides, maximum pavingwidth is 7840 mm.

RB 5700 screed. Hydraulic power extendible asphalt screed, it paves from 3000 mm to 5700 mm. With solid extensionsadded to both sides, maximum paving width is 9100 mm.

RMB screeds. Mechanical extendible asphalt screeds. Modelsavailable are RB 9000 and RB 12000. With solid extensionsadded to both sides, maximum paving width is 12000 mm.

Tamper and vibrator. For all screed models are operatedautomatically when the asphalt paver advances following apreset ramp. Tamper starting and stopping ramps areadjustable in order to maintain an optimum mat finish evenwith the AP755 stopped during material reloading operations.All screeds are equipped with electronic ignition, automaticand independent adjustment of the smoothing platetemperature for central and each mobil plate.

Electric heating system. Available for AS3251 screed andAS4251 screed. The electric heating system features a tractor-mounted generator, replaceable heating elements andoperator friendly controls providing an operator-friendlyenvironment. The system is equipped with automaticadjustment of the smoothing plate and tamper bar temperaturefor central, each mobile plate and bolt-on extensions up to 7500 mm. Rapid screed preheating is obtained at low enginerpm for quiet operation. Heavy-duty, user-friendly screedheating control unit with self-diagnostic control is positionedat the rear of the machine for easy ground crew usage.

Electrical System

The 24-volt electrical system consistsof two 12-volt batteries and a 24-volt,80 amp alternator. Integrity of theelectrical system on Cat machines isensured with the use of high-qualitycomponents. The Caterpillar electricalstandards, developed to enhancereliability and durability, featuresoldered, molded, numbered and wireswith nylon-braided wrap to protect theelectrical harness.

All wiring and harnesses are routedaway from areas that may cause wearor damage and are held in place byfasteners.

An onboard generator is fitted when theAP755 is equipped with the AS3251 orAS4251 electric screeds. The generatorprovides 25 kW output to power screedheating and also optional lightingassemblies.

Operator’s Station

The AP755 is equipped with a dualoperator's station that includes twoseats fitted on mechanically slidingsemi-platforms. Both operator seats andconsole panel are mounted on pivotingpedestals enabling the operator to rotateeither to the left or right for enhancedvisibility. The operator's station caninclude an optional folding canopycover for operator comfort.

The sliding operator's console panel ofthe AP755 is fully equipped withcomprehensive controls allowing theoperator to conveniently monitor allmachine functions. Controls operating tamper, vibrationand screed assist are also located at therear of the machine for ground crewusage.

With the engine mounted forward andlow in the frame, the operator hasexcellent visibility into the hopper. Theoperator is also positioned away fromthe engine heat and exhaust.

Conveyors and Augers

The independent movement of the twohoppers is obtained by means of twohydraulic cylinders. Two feedingconveyors, manufactured with abrasionresistant-steel, are independentlycontrolled and proportionally driven bytwo ultrasonic sensors. Conveyorrotation can also be inverted from eitheroperator's console panel or from rearscreed control boxes.

Two independently controlled augersspread the material conveyed to bothsides. Auger rotation speed can bevaried automatically to ensure ahomogeneous distribution of materialbefore the screed. Two ultrasonic wavedetectors control proportional augermovement and can be adjusted from thescreed control boxes. The augers are reversible andhydraulically adjustable in heightproviding benefits to mat quality andbetter distribution of material in front ofthe screed.

Hydraulic System

The propel, material handling andauxiliary systems are operated withelectrically controlled, hydrostaticcomponents. In the event of electricalfailure, each system has manualoperation capability.

The warning lights are activated byabnormal conditions in engine oiltemperature and pressure, enginecoolant temperature and hydraulic oillevel. The warning lights are positionedon the control console for easymonitoring by the operator.

Grade and Slope ControlOption

The grade and slope controls providefull control for both longitudinal gradeand transverse slope when operating toa single reference. Correction is directlyrelated to the magnitude of the surfacedeviation. Controls are functional fromeither side of the AP755 asphalt paver.

System components may varyaccording to the optional controlsmounted on the AP755.

Screeds

All screeds fitted to AP755 perform the same basic function - to lay materialto the desired width and depth whileproviding a smooth finish with initialcompaction.

The AS3251 screed is hydraulicallyextendible and paves from 2500 mm to4700 mm. With solid extensions addedto both sides, the maximum pavingwidth is 7500 mm. Tamper vibrationfrequency from 0 to 1700 rpm (0 to 28.3 Hz). Smoothing platevibration frequency from 0 to 3400 rpm (0 to 56.7 Hz).

The AS4251 screed is hydraulicallyextendible and paves from 2550 mm to5000 mm. With solid extensions addedto both sides, the maximum pavingwidth is 7840 mm. Tamper vibrationfrequency from 0 to 1700 rpm (0 to 28.3 Hz). Smoothing platevibration frequency from 0 to 3400 rpm (0 to 56.7 Hz).

The RB 5700 screed is hydraulicallyextendible and paves from 3000 mm to5700 mm. With solid extensions addedto both sides, the maximum pavingwidth is 9100 mm. Tamper vibrationfrequency from 0 to 1700 rpm (0 to 28.3 Hz). Smoothing platevibration frequency from 0 to 3400 rpm (0 to 56.7 Hz).

The RMB screeds are mechanicallyextendible. Models available are RB 9000 and RB 12000. With solidextensions added to both sides, themaximum paving width is up to 12000 mm. Tamper vibration frequencyfrom 0 to 1600 rpm (0 to 26.7 Hz).Smoothing plate vibration frequencyfrom 0 to 3000 rpm (0 to 50 Hz).

Tamper and vibrator for all screedmodels are operated automaticallywhen the asphalt paver advancesfollowing a preset ramp. Duringoperation tamper and vibratoradjustment are electronically controlledand can be individually adjusted viapotentiometers located on the rearground control panel. The rear ground control panel alsoincludes an optional LCD-displayindicating tamper frequency and apotentiometer for adjusting the tamperramp.

Dual LPG high-energy burners, eight in all, are included on all mainscreeds and each hydraulic extensionwhere available. Four sensorsconstantly control the temperaturethroughout the entire width of thescreeds. All screeds are equipped withelectronic ignition, automatic andindependent adjustment of thesmoothing plate temperature for centraland each mobile plate.

Electric heating system is available forthe AS3251 screed and the AS4251screed. The electric heating systemfeatures a tractor-mounted generator,replaceable heating elements andoperator friendly controls providing anoperator-friendly environment. The system is equipped with automaticadjustment of the smoothing plate andtamper bar temperature for central, eachmobile plate and bolt-on extensions upto 7500 mm. Rapid screed preheating isobtained at low engine rpm for quietoperation. Heavy-duty, user-friendlyscreed heating control unit with self-diagnostic control is positioned at therear of the machine for ground crewusage.

All screed models are equipped withthe screed assist, an electro-hydraulicdevice maintaining a constant screedpressure on the bituminous mix,independently from the mix bearingcapacity and the paving width.

Folding Operator's Station Canopy.The operator's station canopy covers theentire width of the machine. The canopycan be lowered and raised manuallyfacilitating machine transportation.

Hydraulic Raising Operator's StationCanopy. The operator's station canopycovers the entire width of the machine.The canopy can be lowered and raisedelectrically even with the engine notrunning.

Grade Control. Paddle-type gradecontrol with small rigid ski that rides onthe pavement surface. The referencesurface may be a flat surface or a wire.

Digital Grade Control. Paddle-type gradecontrol with small rigid ski that rides onthe pavement surface. The system alsoincludes a digital control unit fitted tothe screed handrail. The digital control unit allows theground crew to set the grade of thesurface, in accordance with the siterequirements. The digital control unitcan also be used to control a gradecontrol applied to the opposite side ofthe screed.

Digital Ultrasound Grade Control.A multi-functional sensor provides fullproportional control for longitudinalgrade. The system includes a digitalcontrol unit and an ultrasound sensorthat detects obstacles or breaks in thereference surface (stones, small holes,etc.) and provides a mean average of the surface on which it is operating. The control unit can also be used tocontrol a grade control applied to theopposite side of the screed.

Ultrasound Grade Control. 5 non-contact ultrasound sensors provide fullproportional control for longitudinalgrade. The system includes a digitalcontrol unit and a multiple ultrasoundsensor that detects obstacles or breaksin the reference surface (stones, smallholes, etc.) and provides a meanaverage of the surface on which it isoperating. A sixth sensor, positionedhorizontally, automatically corrects theeffects of variations in the airtemperature so that there is not an errorin the evaluation of the referencedistance.

Combined Ultrasound Grade Control.The system includes a single controlunit with a rigid ski in contact with thereference surface and a non-contactultrasound sensor incorporated formaximum flexibility. The referencesurface may be a flat surface or a wire.

Laser Scanner Grade Control.The system includes a mobile laser unitthat is attached to the paver. The mobileunit is positioned high above thesurface in order to allow it to detectdiscontinuities in the reference surfaceand in the laid material over a distanceadjustable up to 18 meters. The systemalso includes two digital control units,one for adjusting the levelingparameters and controlling a gradecontrol applied to the opposite side ofthe screed, and a second digital controlunit is used to set the operatingparameters of the laser (reading height,range and length of the screed).

Slope Control. Works together with thegrade controls to provide accuratetransverse slope of the material laid.

Digital Slope Control. Works togetherwith the grade controls to provideaccurate transverse slope of the materiallaid. The system also includes a digitalcontrol unit fitted to the screedhandrail. The digital control unit allowsthe ground crew to set the percentageslope of the surface, in accordance withthe site requirements.

Screeds Extension Boxes. 250 mm and 710 mm mechanical extensionsavailable for AS3251 and AS4251screeds. Other extensions available forRB 5700 and RMB screeds.

Rotating Side Screed End Gates (forAS3251 and AS4251). Bolted on hingedend gates reduce screed width for easytransportation.

Motorized Screed Camber Adjustment(for AS3251 and AS4251). Electric motormodifies screed plate camber anglesbetween +4.5% and -2.5%.

Supplementary Working LightsPackage with Xenon Lights (24V).Consists of four variable position xenonbeam flood lights, two mountedforward and two mounted to the rearilluminating work area.

Supplementary Working LightsPackage (230V) available only for AP755 with AS3251 and AS4251 Electric Heated Screeds. Consists offour variable position sealed beamflood lights, two mounted forward andtwo mounted to the rear illuminatingwork area.

Automatic Greasing System for Tractorand for Tractor & Screed. Centralizedand automatic lubrication of conveyors,augers, tamper and vibrator shafts.

Refueling Pump. An electric self-priming pump permits machine-refueling on-the-go or with engine not running.
