1 Introduction

aspenONE Overview

Packaging

Included in your package from AspenTech, you will find the following items

that you will need prior to installation:

Letter notifying you which products are licensed.

Package of DVDs (see “Installation DVDs” below).

License file (only if a dongle has also been shipped to you).

Instructions on how to run the License Utility (if a dongle is not used).

DVDs

The DVDs associated with the aspenONE release include:

aspenONE Documentation DVD – includes all AspenTech documentation. Thisincludes all manuals (in PDF format) and standalone versions of Help files.This DVD is not used in the product installation process, but can be usedseparately to browse the documentation and install PDF documentation.

aspenONE Product DVDs – includes a number of DVDs that contain theinstallations for Aspen products. For a complete description of the contents of those DVDs, refer to the aspenONE Deployment Guide.

Start Installation

To begin an installation, insert the appropriate DVD into your DVD drive. You

will be prompted to configure your license information prior to installation.Aspen Administration components (SLM Server and Aspen Security (AspenFramework)) and some Aspen Engineering products do not require a license

to install. For all others, you must configure the license information beforeyou can install. When the products are determined to have valid licenses, theAspenTech Installation Browser will request the products or product set that

you want to install and request applicable DVDs as needed. Alternatively, DVD

content can be shared from a network server.

AspenTech Installation Browser

The AspenTech Installation Browser provides a mechanism for users tovalidate their product licenses and browse through the products that they are

licensed for prior to installation. The AspenTech Installation Browser contains

two tabs, Administration and Products.

From the Administration tab, you can install the Aspen Administrationproducts – Aspen SLM, Aspen Security (Aspen Framework), Aspen SLM tools,

and aspenONE Diagnostics.

From the Products tab, you can browse for and install individual products.The Installation Browser will guide you in determining your licensed products

based on your license configuration.

The AspenTech Installation Browser also includes links to Aspen Technologysupport centers and web sites for contact information, product updates and

other resources. A link is also provided to easily access the license

configuration wizard to determine which products you are licensed forinstallation.

Clicking Install starts the process during which you will select the products tobe installed on your computer.

Aspen Documentation DVD

Before installing any AspenTech product, be sure to print and read theinstallation guide and release notes documentation for each product you

intend to install. All AspenTech installation and reference documents (in PDFformat) and standalone versions of Help files are included on the aspenONE Documentation DVD.

Each product-specific installation guide contains critical information about

system requirements, product dependencies, and post-installationconfiguration procedures. The release notes for each product contain

information on new features, software fixes, and known problems and

workarounds.

Installing License ManagerBefore Installing Applications

Normally you may need to install SLM (Software License Manager) productsbefore installing Aspen applications. For information on how to install SLM(Software License Manager) products, see Software License Manager (SLM)Installation and Reference Guide, which is contained on the Documentation

DVD.

Installation ProcessTo begin an installation, insert any DVD into your DVD drive. The AspenTechInstaller requests the products or product set that you want to install andrequests applicable DVDs. Alternatively, DVD content can be shared from a

network server.

To install Aspen Engineering Products, insert DVD 1.

For example, if you are performing a new installation of Aspen Engineeringproducts only, the AspenTech Installer installs infrastructure components

(using the Infrastructure DVD) followed by Aspen Engineering components.

Important Installation Change

for V7.3With Aspen Engineering Suite V7.3, there are two options for installing Aspen

Engineering Products.

If you are installing:

o Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating V7.3.1

o Aspen Economic Evaluation V7.3.1

o Aspen Properties Mobile V7.3

Click Products | Aspen Engineering (for Upgrade) | Install.

If you are installing any other product:

Click Products | Aspen Engineering | Install.

Pre-installation ChecklistBefore installing any Aspen Engineering product, review the followingchecklist to ensure a smooth installation.

Verify that all system requirements are met. For instructions, see

” Checking Aspen System Requirements." Verify that all additional required software has been installed. For

instructions, see "Checking Software Requirements."

Verify that all additional product-specific requirements and dependencies

are met. For instructions, see “Checking Product-Specific Requirementsand Dependencies."

Check which service pack (SP) is installed. For instructions, see "Checking

the Service Pack Version."

Verify that the virtual memory, including swap space is sufficient for

running Aspen products. For instructions, see “Checking Virtual Memory ."

Verify that the installation account has local Administrator privileges. For

instructions, see “Checking Account Privileges."

Verify that SLM is available. For instructions, see Software LicenseManager (SLM) Installation and Reference Guide, which is contained the

Documentation DVD.

Disable any anti-virus software running on your PC so that the installationprogram can copy files to the system area and modify the WindowsRegistry. After you complete the installation, enable the anti-virus

software.

Checking Aspen SystemRequirementsThis section provides the hardware and software requirements for the AspenEngineering products.

Microsoft .NET Framework .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1

Microsoft .NET Framework and SQL Server are prerequisites of the Aspen

Engineering installation. You are responsible for installing this software beforeattempting to install the Aspen Engineering products.




Certain functionality requires you to install 3rd party programs such as Intel

Fortran, or Visual Studio Compiler, and so on. Details of such 3 rd party

program prerequisites are covered in individual product installation sections

With the exception of Aspen OnLine, all products are supported on English,

German, Japanese, and Chinese versions of the operating systems.

Unsupported language versions of these operating systems may or may notwork and are not tested.

Notes:

AspenTech continues to support product versions prior to aspenONE V7.3on the operating systems on which they were supported when released

(unless AspenTech has notified customers with an “end of support” dateby e-bulletin and on the AspenTech Support Web site

http://support.aspentech.com/).

Customers can continue to use products on the operating systems thatwere initially supported by AspenTech (within the limits specified in thelicense agreement).

Checking the Service Pack

Version

To check which Service Pack version is installed

On the desktop, click Start | Settings | Control Panel; then double-click

System.

The General tab of System Properties dialog displays the installed versionof Windows and any service pack information.

Checking Virtual MemoryThe recommended amount of virtual memory (physical memory plus swap

file) is 1 Gigabyte. Large plant models or multiple open applications mayrequire additional virtual memory. For information on checking Virtual

Memory, see your Microsoft documentation.

Checking Account PrivilegesWhen installing Aspen products, you must use an account with LocalAdministrator privileges. For information on checking Account Privileges,

see your Microsoft documentation.

Aspen Basic Engineering AdditionalRequirements

Hardware Requirements

64-bit Version of Aspen Basic Engineering Server

Starting from V7.3, Aspen Basic Engineering has a separate DVD containing

the 64-bit installation media. The 64-bit version includes a native 64-bit

Aspen Basic Engineering server as well as the 32-bit client applications. The64-bit Aspen Basic Engineering server is required by customers with very

large workspaces and allows the server process to essentially growunlimitedly (up to 8000 GB) to address as much memory as is available on

the server machine. The 64-bit DVD can be used for server only or standardinstallations on 64-bit operating systems.

For 32-bit operating systems, use the standard aspenONE installation DVD.

Server Hardware

Resource Requirements

CPU 1 GHz minimum (2 to 3 GHz recommended).

The Aspen Basic Engineering Server combined with Oracle

does not perform well on a machine with less than a 1 GHzclock speed. (Oracle or SQL Server is required to run AspenBasic Engineering, see Software Requirements below.) Thereare two modes you can use:

Two-tier mode: (RDB Server and Aspen Basic EngineeringServer run on the same host). (Follow the Relational

Database (RDB) product guidelines for additional system

requirements and add these to the overall Server systemrequirements if possible.) The RDB, especially Oracle,combined with the Aspen Basic Engineering Server will notperform well on a machine with less than a 1 GHz clockspeed. At least 2 GHz is recommended.

Three-tier mode: (the RDB exists on a separate PC). TheRDB does not greatly influence the middle tier hosting theAspen Basic Engineering Server other than some additionalmemory to operate its cache on the middle tier. You shoulduse a fast LAN connection between the Aspen Basic




Engineering Server and RDB Server Aspen Basic EngineeringV7.3 exploits multiple processor server hardware. Addingadditional processors can improve server response times.

Note: AZServer is extremely memory and CPU hungry – werecommend using a modern, fast dedicated machine for theserver.

Physical Memory 2 GB RAM minimum (4 GB recommended)

Note: Large workspaces (for example,1000 equipmentitems) can occupy up to 2 GB of memory each. If the servermachine is being used for multiple large projects, it shouldhave enough physical memory for all workspaces as well asother processes. Rule of thumb:

Physical memory requirement = 2GB + nw x 2GB where nw= the maximum number of workspaces runningsimultaneously.

One of these Relational Databases is required to run AspenBasic Engineering V7.3 to operate as a transactioned backingstore (the contents of these cannot be designed to be queriedby the user). These products can be installed before or afterinstalling Aspen Basic Engineering. The RDB software can beinstalled either on the Aspen Basic Engineering Server hostmachine, or on a separate machine on the same local area

network.

For Oracle, you must install Oracle OLEDB Client on the Aspen

Basic Engineering Server host machine.

Important Note: Only a correct and corresponding Oracledriver/client should be used in conjunction with the Oracleserver.Never mix Oracle client/driver versions and server versions

Severe maloperation can result by mixing driver and RDBMSversions from different Oracle installations.

Microsoft Access(optional, not availableon 64-bit operatingsystems)

Note: Aspen Basic Engineering installations can be tested withMicrosoft Access, especially on a Standard install where theserver and client are installed on the same machine. It can beused for some customization work that can be doneindependently of the final deployment environment. MicrosoftAccess must not be used in the deployment of Aspen Basic

Engineering onto engineering projects for reasons of datasecurity in a transactioned environment.

OverviewThis Guide covers installation of Aspen Engineering products when installed by

clicking the Products tab on the Installation Browser.

SLM Client ToolsWhen installing the Aspen Engineering products, you can also install the SLM

(Software License Manager) Client Tools. For information about these SLMclient tools, see Software License Manager (SLM) Installation and ReferenceGuide.

Installing Aspen ProductsThis version of the Aspen Engineering Application Products is contained onDVD 1, Aspen Engineering.

Note: If you are prompted to do so, restart your computer at the end of the

installation.Note: The installation program will check for all pre-requisites; if the pre-

requisite software is not present on the computer on which you are installing

Aspen software, you will get an error message and the installation will notproceed.

Installation OptionsThere are two options for installing Aspen Engineering products:

The Standard option installs all files to the local hard drive of a computer.The computer can be a stand-alone or network PC with enough space and

power on the local drive to store and run the installed products.

For details, see “Standard Installation.”

The Server option installs files on a central server machine. Products

supporting this configuration usually put computing intensive or main data

processing activities on the server machine.

For details, see "Client-Server Installation."

Note: Not all products have both options.

Standard Installation Using the AspenEngineering DVD

To perform a Standard installation of Aspen Engineering products

1 Log on to the computer, using an account with Local Administratorprivileges.

2 Insert the Aspen Engineering DVD (DVD 1) into the DVD drive.

Note: If the installation does not start automatically, click Start | Run. In

the Run dialog box, enter <drive>:\setup (where <drive> is the drive

letter assigned to your DVD drive); then click OK.

The AspenTech DVD Browser window appears.

3 Click the Products tab.

Note: If you want to see only products that you are licensed to install, selectthe Show Licensed Products Only check box.

A license requirement dialog box appears.

4 Click OK.




The License Configuration Wizard appears.

Note: If you are installing the SLM Server, see Software License Manager (SLM) Installation and Reference Guide, which is contained on the

Documentation DVD.

5 Click Next.

The License Configuration Type dialog box appears.

6 Accept the default Both option and click Next.

Note: You can click None. If you click None, skip to Step 10 below.




The License Files dialog box appears..

7 Do the following:

o If you have one or more standalone license files that are local to yourcomputer, click Add License File, and then use the Open dialog box

to locate the license files (*.lic, *.slf ). Then click Next.

-and/or-

o If you have licenses that are obtained from a network license server,

click Next.

The License Servers dialog box appears.

8 In the License Servers dialog box, enter the License Server name and

click Add Server, and repeat until all applicable License Server namesare included in the list. Then click Next.




The Determining Product Licenses dialog box appears.

9 After the Licenses list is populated with all licenses found, click Next.

10 Click one of the following two options:







The Windows Installer view appears briefly as it prepares for installation.

One of the following AspenTech Installer dialogs appears.

This version of the Aspen Installer dialog appears when no aspenONEproducts are installed:




This version appears when one or more aspenONE products are installed:

11 Whichever screen appears, click Next to continue.




The License Agreement dialog box appears.

12 Review the license agreement. If you accept this agreement, click Yes, I

accept the terms in the license agreement. If you do not accept it,click No, I do not accept the terms in the license agreement. If youclick on No, you will not be able to continue with the installation.

Note: If you have already installed one or more aspenONE products, the next

screen will be the Program Maintenance screen.




If you want to install additional programs or remove some (but not all)

existing Aspen programs:

o Click Modify; then click Next. Skip to Step 14 below.

The Computer Configuration Type dialog box appears.

13 Click Standard Install to install the Aspen software on a singlecomputer.

The Choose Destination Location dialog box appears.




14 To specify a different folder, click Browse, then navigate to the correct

folder. When you are satisfied with the installation folder (default or your

choice), click Next.

The Feature Selection dialog box appears.

15 On the Feature Selection dialog box, click the Aspen product(s) you

want to install on the computer by clicking on the tree of products andproduct features. Click the PLUS SIGN and MINUS SIGN symbols to display or

hide branches of the tree. For each feature, you can select options thatcontrol the installation.

Initially, the icons appear with the red “x”. Open a tree and the icon there

will also have a red “x”. When you click on the subfeature “x” icon, thefollowing menu appears:

16 On this menu, select how you want that program to be installed.

Note: For an explanation of the icons, click Help.

Changing Product/Subfeature Folders

For a selected product, you can change the default destination location of itsproduct directory. For some features you can also change the default

destination folder of product subfeatures.

To change the destination location of a selected Aspen product orsubfeature

A On the Feature Selection dialog box, click Change.




The Change Current Destination Location dialog box appears.

The default destination is:

C:\Program Files\AspenTech

B On the Change Current Destination Location dialog box, either

o browse to the directory that you want to specify as the rootdestination directory under which all AspenTech products for

this software version will be installed on this computer . (If adialog box appears prompting you for permission to create the

folder, click Yes.).

-or-

o in the Folder name field, type the path to the directory that

you want to specify as the root destination directory underwhich all AspenTech products for this software version will be

installed on this computer . (If a dialog box appears prompting

you for permission to create the folder, click Yes.).

Note: Once the installation of any Aspen product has been completed for

this software version on this computer, you cannot change the location of

the AspenTech folder.Note the following product restrictions:

The Aspen Economic Evaluation product directory must be installedno deeper than the third level of the directory structure. Forexample: D:\Program Files\AspenTech\Aspen EconomicEvaluation V7.3




C Click OK.

You are returned to the Feature Selection dialog box.

17 This screen may appear regarding pre-requisites:

If it appears, click Report to get detailed instructions on the products

required, with links to download and configuration instructions. Then:

o You should download all the required products first, since some

installations may require reboots.

o You should print the page you get with Report for reference.

o If any of the prerequisites is marked Exiting AspenTech Installer

Required, you should exit the installer by clicking Exit.

When you are done installing the prerequisites, if you did not have to exitthe installer, click Recheck. If you did have to exit the installer, restart

the Aspen Engineering installation, if necessary. When doing so, when this

message appears, click Yes.

Then the various screens starting with Welcome screen will appear. ClickNext (and Yes on the License Agreement screen) to get through them.Your selections on the Feature Selection screen will be preserved. If you

have satisfied all the pre-requisites, the Prerequisite Validation screenwill not reappear.




18 If this is the first installation of Aspen products on your computer, you are

prompted to choose a Working File Folders location.

19 Select a folder; then click Next.

20 Click Next to continue.

Configuring Aspen Products at Install TimeDepending on the products you are installing, additional dialog boxes mayappear, prompting you for product-specific information.

If you are installing you are prompted for

Aspen Basic Engineering If the Aspen Basic Engineering Brokerwindow appears, see Aspen Basic EngineeringInstallation Notes."

Aspen OnLine DCOM user account, and CIM-IO core security

settings. For details, see "Aspen OnLine."

If you install Aspen Remote Simulation Service, you are prompted for the

username and password of an account which will be used to run this service.




When you install the Aspen Properties Enterprise Database feature of any

product and just one instance of MS SQL Server 2005 or 2008 or MS SQLServer Express 2005 is installed on the computer, it will be used. If more than

one such SQL server instance is installed, the installer will ask which one to

use.




If you are installing Aspen Plus or Aspen Properties, you will be prompted to

configure the Fortran compiler. If no Fortran compiler is installed, the dialog

box will appear as shown below with the choices set to User and dimmed. If one or more compilers are installed, you will be able to choose the Fortrancompiler to use.

Ready to Install21 Click Next until the Ready to Install the Program dialog box appears.




22 Review your selected installation options. (To modify any selected option,click Back to navigate to the appropriate dialog box and make thechanges.)

23 To complete the installation, click Install.

24 Wait as the installation begins. The Installing Aspen Engineeringscreen appears on which you can monitor the progress of the installation.

Setup Complete

Once the installation is finished, the Wizard Completed dialog box appears.




25 Click Finish.

26 A message box appears asking you to restart your computer. Do either of

the following:

o Click Yes to restart your computer right away. The systemshuts down and reboots.

o Click No to restart it later.

27 When the system reboot is complete, log on to Windows using an accountwith local Administrator privileges.

Client-Server Installation

Note: Only system administrators should perform this type of installation.

A server installation of Aspen products takes advantage of using a powerfulserver computer to perform calculations and various data- processing

Before You Begin

Before you begin the installation process:

Review the “Pre-installation Checklist" section.

Because several users may be running a calculation engine on the serversimultaneously, ensure the server machine has appropriate resources. For

guidelines, see "Checking Aspen System Requirements."

Ensure the server and client machines use TCP/IP communication andhave the appropriate network access in both directions.

Ensure the server and the user PCs have the proper name resolution

present so that the user PCs recognize the server name entered at runtime.

Ensure that the users of Aspen products have Windows accounts that are

valid on the application server.

Installing the Software

To Install Aspen server software on the server machine:













4 Click OK.

5 Click Next.



Note: You can click None. If you click None, skip to Step 10 below.

The Windows Installer view appears briefly as it prepares for installation.One of the following AspenTech Installer dialogs appears.

11 Whichever screen appears, click Next to continue.

Note: If you have already installed one or more aspenONE products, the next

screen will be the Program Maintenance screen.




If you want to install additional programs or remove some (but not all)

existing Aspen programs:

o Click Modify; then click Next. Skip to Step 15 below.


12 Click Server Install to install the Aspen software on a single computer.

The Aspen Engineering V7.3 Setup dialog box appears.

13 Click Next.

The License Agreement dialog box appears.

14 Review the license agreement. If you accept this agreement, click Yes, I

accept the terms in the license agreement. If you do not accept it,




click No, I do not accept the terms in the license agreement. If you

click on No, you will not be able to continue with the installation.

The Choose Destination Location dialog box appears.

15 To specify a different folder, click Browse, then navigate to the correctfolder. When you are satisfied with the installation folder (default or your

choice), click Next.


16 On the Feature Selection dialog box, click the Aspen product(s) you

want to install on the computer by clicking on the tree of products and

product features. Click the PLUS SIGN and MINUS SIGN symbols to display orhide branches of the tree. For each feature, you can select options that

control the installation.

Initially, the icons appear with the red “x”. Open a tree and the icon therewill also have a red “x”. When you click on the subfeature “x” icon, the

following menu appears:

17 On this menu, select how you want that program to be installed.

Note: For an explanation of the icons, click Help.




Changing Product/Subfeature Folders

For a selected product, you can change the default destination location of itsproduct directory. For some features you can also change the default

destination folder of product subfeatures.

To change the destination location of a selected Aspen product orsubfeature

A On the Feature Selection dialog box, click Change.

The Change Current Destination Location dialog box appears.

The default destination is:

C:\Program Files\AspenTech

B On the Change Current Destination Location dialog box, either

o browse to the directory that you want to specify as the rootdestination directory under which all AspenTech products for

this software version will be installed on this computer . (If adialog box appears prompting you for permission to create the

folder, click Yes.).

o in the Folder name field, type the path to the directory that

you want to specify as the root destination directory underwhich all AspenTech products for this software version will be

installed on this computer . (If a dialog box appears promptingyou for permission to create the folder, click Yes.).




Note: Once the installation of any Aspen product has been completed for

this software version on this computer, you cannot change the location of

the AspenTech folder.

Note the following product restrictions:

The Aspen Economic Evaluation product directory must be installedno deeper than the third level of the directory structure. Forexample: D:\Program Files\AspenTech\Aspen EconomicEvaluation V7.3

You are returned to the Feature Selection dialog box.


19 This screen may appear regarding pre-requisites:

If it appears, click Report to get detailed instructions on the productsrequired, with links to download and configuration instructions. Then:

o You should download all the required products first, since some

installations may require reboots.o You should print the page you get with Report for reference.

o If any of the prerequisites is marked Exiting AspenTech InstallerRequired, you should exit the installer by clicking Exit.

When you are done installing the prerequisites, if you did not have to exitthe installer, click Recheck. If you did have to exit the installer, restart

the Aspen Engineering installation, if necessary. When doing so, when thismessage appears, click Yes.




Then the various screens starting with Welcome screen will appear. ClickNext (and Yes on the License Agreement screen) to get through them.Your selections on the Feature Selection screen will be preserved. If you

have satisfied all the pre-requisites, the Prerequisite Validation screenwill not reappear.

Configuring Aspen Products at Install Time

Depending on the products you are installing, additional dialog boxes may

appear, prompting you for product-specific information.

If you are installing you are prompted for

Aspen Basic Engineering If the Aspen Basic Engineering Broker windowappears, see Aspen Basic Engineering InstallationNotes."

Aspen OnLine If the User name and Password window appears,see "Aspen OnLine."

If you install Aspen Remote Simulation Service, you are prompted for theusername and password of an account which will be used to run this service.




When you install the Aspen Properties Enterprise Database feature of any

product and only one instance of MS SQL Server or MS SQL Server Express is

installed on the computer, you are prompted for the database admin nameand password, and if more than one SQL server instance is installed, whichone to use.

If you are installing Aspen Properties Mobile, you will be prompted for theLDAP configuration for authenticating users of the client app.




The LDAP Path is an LDAP URL for the domain in which users are

authenticated. Typically this looks like LDAP://domain.company.comwhere domain is the Windows domain containing the user accounts andcompany.com is the Internet domain for the network.

The LDAP Web Configure is a group within this domain containing usersallowed to access Aspen Properties Mobile.

Ready to Install20 Click Next until the Ready to Install the Program dialog appears.




21 Review your selected installation options. (To modify any selected option,click Back to navigate to the appropriate dialog box and make the

changes.)

22 To complete the installation, click Install.

23 Wait as the installation begins. The Installing Aspen Engineering

screen appears on which you can monitor the progress of the installation.

Configuring a Windows Server

as an Aspen HostNote: This does not apply to Aspen Basic Engineering.

After you complete the installation of the Aspen server components on theserver machine, you must configure the server as an Aspen host.

Each user connecting to the Windows Server must belong to one of thefollowing:

A local user account or group on the server.

An account or group in the domain to which the server belongs.

An account or group in a trusted domain.

Important: Each user account that connects to the server must also begranted Log on as a Batch Job access to the server.




Adding Windows Server Accounts

The following sections provide detailed instructions for configuring useraccounts on Windows Server, using sample groups, accounts, and domains.

Creating Local Group and User Accounts

To create local group and user accounts

1 On the desktop, click Start | Settings | Control Panel |

Administrative Tools | Computer Management.

The Computer Management console appears.

2 In the console tree expand System Tools | Local users & Groups; then

click Groups.

3 On the Action menu, click New Group.

The New Group dialog box appears.

4 Enter a Group Name for the local group, for example, Local1. Then clickCreate.

5 In the console tree, click Users, and on the Action menu, click NewUser.

The New User dialog box appears.

6 In the New User dialog box, type the following information:

Username The name of the new user.

Password The password based on your local security policy.Confirm Password

7 Clear User must change password at next logon and click Password

never expires.

8 Click Create; then close the dialog box.

9 Double-click the new user you just created. In its Properties dialog box,

click the Member of tab.

10 Click Add.

11 Type the name of the group and click Check Names to verify it is correct.Then click OK.

12 Click OK to close the Properties dialog box.

13 Repeat Steps 4 through 12 to create or add more users to the group.

14 When you finish adding users to the group, close the ComputerManagement console.

After you have created new local group and user accounts, you must grant

access to the user PCs.

Setting User Rights

Each user account that connects to the server must be granted Log on as aBatch Job access to the server.




To grant access to the server for local users

1 On the desktop, click Start | Settings | Control Panel.

2 Double-click Administrative Tools; then double-click Local SecurityPolicy.

3 Double-click Security Settings, double-click Local Policies, and then

double-click User Rights Assignment.4 Double-click the user right Log on as a Batch Job.

5 Click Add User or Group.

Click Locations, and select the local computer.

Type the names of accounts to which you want to assign the right, then

click Check Names.

6 Click OK; then click OK again.

7 Confirm that the changes have taken effect locally by closing the Local

Security Policy window and re-opening it.

The newly assigned rights should appear under the Effective Settings

columns.

You can now proceed with the installation on the user PCs.

Installing Aspen Products onUser PCsThe following table summarizes the steps for installing Aspen products on

user PCs in a client-server network configuration.

1 On each user PC, perform a Standard installation of Aspen products.

2 Configure the user PCs to use the remote server.

Configuring Installed AspenProducts on User PCsBefore you can run Aspen simulation/calculation software installed on theserver machine, you must specify the name of the server the first time you

run the product from the user PC.

Specifying a Remote ServerThe following sections contain detailed instructions on specifying the remoteserver for Aspen products.

To specify a remote server from a user PC running any of the AspenModeler products:

1 On the desktop, click Start | Programs | AspenTech | Process

Modeling V7.3 | <Aspen product >| <Aspen product >.

2 On the menu bar, click Tools | Server Configuration.

3 In the Server Configurations dialog box, click Add.

The Servers dialog box appears:

4 Type a Current configuration name.

This name can be the name of the computer where the simulation serversoftware will run, or it can be a name with meaning to you only.

5 Click Add Host.

The Host Properties dialog box appears.

6 On the Host Properties dialog box, enter the following information:

Host name Type the name of the server where thesimulation server software is installed.

Note: Ensure the accuracy of both caseand spelling of the server name. The

name is used to resolve the networkaddress of the computer and must be in a

form recognizable to your Domain NameServer.

User name Type the user name for the account onthe server computer that you will use torun the server software.

Password Type the password for the account on theserver computer that you will use to runthe server software.

7 Click OK.

8 In the Servers dialog box, click the name of the server you just added as

the Host Computer.

10 Click OK to accept your changes and close the Servers dialog box.

11 In the Server Configurations dialog box, click OK.

You are notified that you must restart the Aspen product for the changes you

have made to take effect.

After you have restarted the Aspen product, you can run simulations and/ or

calculations from your PC on the remote server you specified.

Checking the Status Bar

To quickly verify that an installed product is using the remote

configuration you specified

Look for the configuration name on the status bar, for example:

Verifying Client–ServerCommunication

To verify that the installation on the user PC is successfullycommunicating with the server running the Aspen simulation and

calculation server software

1 Ensure that you have successfully installed and configured the software onboth the server and on the user PC.

2 If you have not already done so, restart the user PC.

3 Verify the client-server communication for the installed Aspen products, asdescribed in this section.




4 Verify the installation of Aspen products on the user PCs, using verification

procedures in the appropriate product tabs.

Aspen Adsorption, Aspen Chromatography, AspenCustom Modeler, Aspen Plus Dynamics

If you encounter any problems running any of these Aspen products, you canensure that REXEC is working correctly on the user PC.

To ensure that REXEC is working correctly on the user PC:

At the command prompt on the user PC, type:

V7.3 replaces V7.x Program Files, updates AspenTech standard workspacelibraries, and uses the same workspaces as V7.x.

V7.3 will install a new set of program files, for example, C:\ProgramFiles\AspenTech\Basic Engineering V7.3, and will remove the V7.x program

files. The following files are replaced and should be copied to anotherfolder before starting the V7.3 installation:

After the V7.3 installation, reapply your changes to all modified files. The

Upgrade will install a new version of these files with important changes that

you should not discard by simply overwriting the newly delivered files.Uninstall any earlier (pre-release) versions of Aspen Basic Engineering V7.3before installing this release of Aspen Basic Engineering V7.3.

Caution: On 64-bit operating systems, you must uninstall V7.x beforeinstalling the 64-bit version of Aspen Basic Engineering – upgrade

from V7.x to V7.3 is not supported for 64-bit version.

Installation Types

You have two options for installation type:

Upgrade

Full

Upgrade installationUse this option when V7.x is already installed. Review the previous Caution

statement for creating a backup of workspace libraries and customized files. If Aspen Basic Engineering V7.x is installed on the client and/or server

machines, the installation program will prompt with the following dialog:

Choose Upgrade or Repair. The installer will upgrade only those options that

were installed in V7.x.




If you wish to modify the installed options, first uninstall V7.x. After a

reboot, you can perform a full installation, selecting the options you wish to

install.

Note: Uninstalling V7.x will not remove your workspaces or workspacelibraries. A full installation of V7.3 will use the V7.x workspaces and

workspace libraries. Refer to the Caution statement at the beginning of thissection for creating a backup of workspace libraries and customized files.

Full installation

Use this option when Aspen Basic Engineering V7.x is not previously installed.

Aspen Basic Engineering can be installed as either a Standard or a Serverinstallation:

The Standard install option can be used to install all client and server

components onto a single machine. Such an installation lets the machineoperate as a server, as well as allowing the user to connect to the localserver or other server installations. This can be convenient for

administrators and customization users. On 32-bit machines, a default

Access workspace can be used for testing. On 64-bit machines, the Accessdatabase is not supported; the workspace will have to be created in the

Administration tool using an RDB installed on the server machine or on a

networked machine. For details, see Aspen Basic Engineering Standard Installation Notes.

A Client only install is done by clicking on the Standard Install button

and from selecting only User Services components. For details, see

"Aspen Basic Engineering Client Installation Notes."

The Server only install option will install Data Services and Workspace

Libraries. For details, see “ Aspen Basic Engineering Server Installation

Notes.”

Note: Most installations will be either server only or client only.

Aspen Basic Engineering StandardInstallation Notes

To install Basic Engineering:

1 Follow the procedure outlined in "Client-Server Installation," until theComputer Configuration Type dialog box appears.

2 Click Standard Install.


3 Select the feature(s) you wish to install. For details, see “Client-Server

Installation.”




The Aspen Basic Engineering Broker dialog box appears.

4 On this dialog, your Name must be defined to allow the broker to run asan existing or new user.

Existing User. To access the database as an existing user, enter an

existing (valid) username in the Name field (this includes a domain name;for example, MYDOMAIN\AZUSER_YourName) and the correctpassword in the Password field.

New User. To access the database as a new user, enter your username inthe Name field (this includes a domain name; for example,MYDOMAIN\AZUSER_YourName) and your password in the Password

field. The install creates this new username on the local machine. Youmust also assign user privileges.

Important: This password must be valid according to your companypassword security policy. If you enter a password in this field, please

record it for future reference as it may be required if you uninstall and

then re-install the application under a previously used broker account.


6 The Aspen Basic Engineering Business Server Host dialog box

appears.




7 In the Host field, type the default server (Business Server Host) that the

client applications will connect to.


If ProVision was specified as an install option, the ProVision dialog box

appears prompting you to enter the name of the ProVision configuration file.

9 If you wish to change these default locations, click Browse to navigate to

the file.





11 Return to the section Ready to Install for instructions on how tocomplete the installation.

Aspen Basic Engineering Client InstallationNotes

To install Aspen Basic Engineering:

1 Follow the procedure outlined in "Client-Server Installation," until theComputer Configuration Type dialog box appears.

2 Click Standard Install.


3 Expand the Aspen Basic Engineering feature, and then select either all oronly those applications you require from beneath User Services only. Do

not select any Data Services or WorkspaceLibraries components for aClient install.

4 The Aspen Basic Engineering Business Server Host dialog boxappears.




5 In the Host field, type the default server (Business Server Host) that the

client applications will connect to.


If ProVision was specified as an install option, the ProVision dialog box

appears prompting you to enter the name of the ProVision configuration file.

7 If you want to change these default locations, click Browse to navigate to

the file.





9 Return to the section Ready to Install for instructions on how tocomplete the installation.

Aspen Basic Engineering Server Installation

Notes

The following section summarizes the steps required to install the Aspen BasicEngineering server application on a server host. For a client-serverconfiguration, follow these steps.

1 On the server machine, perform a Server installation.

2 Perform a Client installation on each Client PC.

3 Configure the Client PCs to use the remote server.

4 Verify communications between the Server(s) and Clients (refer also to

the Administration help).


Aspen Basic Engineering Server Installation1 Follow the procedure outlined in "Client-Server Installation" until the

Computer Configuration Type dialog box appears.

2 Click Server Install.




3 Select the feature(s) you wish to install. For details, see "Client-Server

Installation."

The Aspen Basic Engineering Broker dialog box appears.

On this dialog, Name must be defined to allow the broker to run as a user.

o Existing User. To access the database as an existing userenter an existing (valid) username in the Name field (this

should also include a domain name; for example,MYDOMAIN\AZUSER_YourName) and the correct passwordin the Password field.

o New User. To access the database as a new user enter your

username in the Name field (this should also include a domainname; for example, MYDOMAIN\AZUSER_YourName) andyour password in the Password field. The install creates this

new username on the local machine. You must also assign user

privileges.

Important: This password must be valid according to your companysecurity policy. If you enter a password in this field, please record it forfuture reference as it may be required if you uninstall and then re-install

the application under a previously used broker account.


5 Return to the Ready to Install section to complete the installation.




Uninstalling and/or Reinstalling

Uninstall any pre-release versions of Aspen Basic Engineering V7.3 beforeinstalling Aspen Basic Engineering V7.3.

Note: You do not need to uninstall Aspen Zyqad 2006.5, Aspen Basic

Engineering V7.0 (or previous versions) before installing Aspen BasicEngineering V7.3. These versions can coexist on the same machine. Aspen

Basic Engineering V7.3 will update versions V7.1 or V7.2 – it will use the

same workspaces and workspace libraries. V7.3 will not coexist with V7.1 orV7.2.

Disconnecting Users from the Server

When you are reinstalling, users/clients need to be disconnected from the

Aspen Basic Engineering Server. You can do this in two ways:

Ask users to disconnect, and then reboot the server machine. Ask the

users not to reconnect until the installation is complete.

Alternatively, you can stop the Aspen Basic Engineering Server in the

following way:

1 On the Start menu, click Control Panel | Administrative Tools |Services.

2 Click AZ162Broker.

3 Right-click and select Stop. (You can also prevent the Broker servicefrom automatically restarting by clicking Properties. On theProperties dialog box, navigate to the General tab; then switch the

startup type from Automatic to Manual to prevent it from being

restarted.)

4 When the installation operation is complete, ensure the AZ162Broker

service startup type is switched back to Automatic.

Aspen Batch Process Developer

Installation NotesYou can modify the location of the Working Folder used by Aspen Batch

Process Developer at install time. By default the Aspen Batch Process

Developer Working Folder is a subfolder under the Aspentech Working Folder.The Aspentech working folder has a restriction that it must be set to a localdrive, but the Aspen Batch Process Developer working folder does not have

this restriction. To set the working folder to a network drive, you can:

modify the folder location from the application

or

modify the following registry entries after installing.




To modify the location of the Working Folder used by Aspen Batch

Process Developer:

Aspen Exchanger Design andRating Installation NotesV7.3.1 Exchanger Design and Rating (EDR) will not co-exist with the V7.3version of Exchanger Design and Rating. This means installing V7.3.1 EDR

will “upgrade” the V7.3 version if it was installed previously. V7.3.1 EDR canalso be installed on a machine where V7.3 EDR was never installed. The

installer therefore functions in 2 modes:

Mode 1 (“Upgrade” Installation): if V7.3 EDR has been installed, theinstaller will detect this and upgrade the V7.3 EDR installation toV7.3.1.

Mode 2 (“Full” Installation): if V7.3 was not previously installed on amachine, the installer will detect this and perform the necessaryfunctions to complete a full V7.3.1 installation.

In order to activate the V7.3.1 EDR installation, please select thefollowing option within the Aspen Tech Installation Browser - “AspenEngineering (for Upgrade)”:




If you select the Aspen Properties Sub-Option, have Aspen Properties V7.2

installed:

1. If you have no other AspenTech V7.2 products that depend on AspenProperties V7.2, Aspen Properties V7.2 will be replaced by AspenProperties V7.3.

2. If you have other AspenTech V7.2 products that depend on Aspen

Properties V7.2, Aspen Properties V7.2 will be left alone and AspenProperties V7.3 will be installed .

Aspen Economic EvaluationInstallation NotesV7.3.1 Economic Evaluation will not co-exist with the V7.3 version of Economic Evaluation. This means installing V7.3.1 EE will “upgrade” the V7.3

version if it was installed previously. Customized libraries and projects

created using V7.3 will be preserved during this upgrade. However, it is

recommended to back-up these files prior to performing this upgrade. Also,V7.3.1 EE can be installed on a machine where V7.3 EE was never installed;

thus the installer will function in two modes:

Mode 1 (“Upgrade” Installation): if V7.3 EE has been installed, theinstaller will detect this and upgrade the V7.3 EE installation to V7.3.1.

Mode 2 (“Full” Installation): if V7.3 was not previously installed on a

machine, the installer will detect this and perform the necessary functionsto complete a full V7.3.1 installation.

In order to activate the V7.3.1 EE installation, click the following option withinthe Aspen Tech Installation Browser - Aspen Engineering (for Upgrade):




Aspen HYSYS Installation NotesIt is important to note that the HYSYS install has two parts: Process ModelingHYSYS (Basic) and Process Modeling HYSYS (Advanced).

The following licensable products are installed with the Process Modeling

HYSYS (Basic) part: Aspen HYSYS

Some key new HYSYS functionality is available only when you install ProcessModeling HYSYS (Advanced). This new functionality allows simulations using

Aspen Properties-based thermodynamics.

Additionally, the Process Modeling HYSYS (Advanced) installation installs thefollowing licensable products:

Installing the Aspen Properties EnterpriseDatabase

The AspenTech Installer looks for an existing SQL Server (2005, 2008, or SQL

Express 2005) installed on your computer. See the Troubleshooting sectionfor issues related to installing SQL Express.

Note: Due to problems encountered with MSDE and MS SQL Server 2000,Aspen Properties Enterprise Database no longer uses these SQL Servers.

If multiple SQL Servers of these versions are found, the installer will ask

which one to use:




Note: The server must be configured to SQL Server and Windowsauthentication mode before you can use it with Aspen HYSYS. See"Configuring Microsoft SQL Server or SQL Express."

At some sites, policy may prohibit the installation of SQL Server on individualcomputers. In this case, the legacy databanks may be used or Aspen Plusmay be configured to use SQL Server on a designated computer.

To install Aspen HYSYS without installing a SQL Server:

1 Create the following registry entry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AspenTech\Setup]"NOSQLExpress"=dword:00000001

2 Install Aspen HYSYS as usual.

Note: The Enterprise databases are installed on C:\Documents andSettings\All Users\Application Data\AspenTech\APED V7.3 (or

D:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application

Data\AspenTech\APED V7.3). This location cannot be compressed or thedatabases will not be installed. SQL server does not support databases on

compressed drives.Note: Aspen Properties Enterprise Database no longer uses Microsoft SQLServer Desktop Edition (MSDE) or MS SQL Server 2000 due to problemsencountered with these SQL servers.

In order to use the Aspen Properties Enterprise Database with correspondingAspen products (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, and so on), SQL 2005 SP3 is theminimum requirement as an install pre-requisite. Be sure to choose Mixed

Mode (in the Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication) during




the "authentication mode" step of the SQL Server installation. If you are not

using mixed mode and have finished the Aspen installation, follow these steps

to ensure the mixed authentication mode is enabled.

For Microsoft SQL Server:

1 Run Start | Programs | AspenTech |Process Modeling V7.3 | Aspen

Properties | Aspen Properties Database Configuration Tester.2 Click Start. An "Incorrect SQL Engine Authentication Setting" dialog

appears. Follow the instructions, then click OK and it will correct theauthentication setting to Mixed Mode for you.

For SQL Server Express, the user interface for configuring the server is not

installed by default. If you do not have it, download it from Microsoft:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C243A5AE-4BD1-4E3D-94B8-5A0F62BF7796&displaylang=en and install it before

performing these steps:

1 Run Start | Programs | Microsoft SQL Server 2005 | SQL ServerManagement Studio Express.

2 In the Connect to Server window, select the server name and Windows

Authentication. Click Connect.

3 In the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express window

tree on the left, right-click the name of the server and click Properties.

4 In the Server Properties dialog, at the left, click Security.

5 Under Server authentication, select SQL Server and Windows

authentication mode, and click OK.

6 In the object explorer, right-click the name of the server and select

Restart. The change will take effect after that.

Verifying the Aspen Properties Enterprise

Database Installation1 On the desktop, click Start | Programs | AspenTech | Process

Modeling V7.3 | Aspen Properties | Aspen Properties Database

Configuration Tester.

2 When the Database Configuration Tester window appears, click Start.

The tester will perform several tests and report the results.

License availability: The tester verifies a license for Aspen Plus or Aspen

Properties is available.

Configuration file permissions: The tester verifies that the configuration

file was installed with the correct permissions.

SQL engine authentication settings: The tester reports all servers thathave at least one Aspen Properties database that is registered on this

computer. On the localhost line, it reports the authentication mode of thelocal server and whether there is any problem with it. For other servers it

cannot check this status, so it only reports what is required.

o First, it verifies that it can connect to the database at all, witheither a Connection Successful message or a messageindicating the error that occurred.




o Next, it attempts to read the database as Aspen Plus or Aspen

Properties would do. This should report Granted/Successful if

the database is configured for access from these programs, orDenied/Failed otherwise. For a non-customized new installation,the databases APV73, NISTV73, and FACTV73 should all be

accessible.

o Finally, it attempts to read the database as the DatabaseManager would do. This should also report Granted/Successful

or Denied/Failed based on the security options. For a non-customized new installation, the databases APV73, NISTV73,

and FACTV73 should all be accessible.

Installing Aspen HYSYS Dynamics Runtime

To install Aspen HYSYS Dynamics Runtime, you must install two AspenEngineering products:

Aspen Operations Support | Aspen OTS Framework

Process Modeling (HYSYS)

Installing OLI Engine for HEO

This software is necessary to use the OLI electrolytes in HYSYS. OLI Engine

for HEO is not distributed by AspenTech. Contact OLI Systems to get the

software and a license for it. Once installed and configured, HYSYS willautomatically detect its presence and the OLI Electrolytes feature withinHYSYS will be enabled.

OLI HardLock Security Key

You must have an OLI HardLock security key and serial number to enableOLI’s license manager. Existing customers will automatically get the OLIHardLock security key and serial number as part of the continued licensing of

the software from OLI. If you do not have the key or serial number, contact

OLI Systems (973-539-4996).

Installing the HardLock Security Key

To install the HardLock security key

Attach the key to the parallel port located on the back of your computer.

If you have the USB version of the HardLock key, attach it to any available

USB connection. If you have a parallel port version of the HardLock key, and you have a

printer connected to the parallel port, unplug your printer. Connect thekey, and then reconnect your printer to the HardLock key. The HardLock

key does not interfere with your printer.

Note: If you have a parallel port security key for another software product,please make sure that the OLI HardLock key is connected directly to the

parallel port and is first in the chain of keys.




OLI Engine in Aspen HYSYS

The OLI Engine uses InstallShield to lead you through a typical Windowsinstallation process. This installation is available in two formats:

A self-extracting executable file named OLI Engine in Aspen HYSYS

V7.3.8.2.3.exe that is distributed on the OLI Systems website.

A product distribution DVD from OLI Systems.

The OLI Engine in Aspen HYSYS V7.3.8.2.3.exe will install the OLIengine files to C:\Program Files\OLI Systems\OLI Engine 8.2\AspenHYSYS V7.3\OLI Engine

Installing

You must download this .exe from the OLI Systems website. If you alreadydownloaded the file, then go to Step 1 below. If you have not downloaded the

file yet, go to this site and follow the directions there to download:

Note: The .exe is also on the product DVD from OLI. If you have a product

distribution DVD provided by OLI, then insert the DVD and run X:\setup.exe(where X: is the drive letter for your DVD). Or, open Windows Explorer, locate

setup.exe and double-click on it. Go to Step 2 below.

1 Open Windows Explorer, and double-click on this self-extracting file.

2 On the Welcome dialog box, click Next.

3 In the License Agreement dialog box read the agreement, click I

accept the terms in the License Agreement; then click Next.

4 In the Customer Information screen type your name and company

name. To complete the Serial Number field, you need the serial number

provided by OLI Systems. Click Next.

5 In the Configure Network License Server dialog box SelectAutomatic. Click Next.

6 On the Choose Setup Type screen, click Typical or Custom. Most users

select Typical. Click Next.

Note: If you selected Custom, the Select Components dialog box

appears. The default setting is to install all of the features (highly

recommended). If you are an experienced OLI user and you know thatyou do not want to use one or more of the optional databanks, then you

can clear them to save disk space.

7 On the Ready to Install screen, click Install.

The installation begins.

Results of Installation

The OLI interface files will be installed in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\OLI Systems\OLI Engine 8.2\Aspen HYSYS V7.3\OLI Engine

The following files will be present:

Hypcalc.dll




OLIRegClient.dll

OLIRegclient.rci

The version number of the Hypcalc.dll is 8.2.3 (or later).

HardLock Device Driver Installation Script

After the files are copied and the program group is populated, the HardLockdevice driver installation script starts. This is a very brief installation, and youare not prompted for any information.

1 Read the screen and close any other programs if needed.

2 Click Next to complete the installation. After the HardLock drivers areinstalled, the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen appears.

3 Click Finish to exit the installation.

Aspen OnLine Installation

NotesAspen OnLine consists of:

Aspen OnLine Server, which communicates with CIM-IO to retrieveplant data and with simulators – for example, Aspen Plus, Aspen Custom

Modeler, or Aspen Utilities Planner – to run models.

Aspen OnLine Client, which is the graphical user interface for AspenOnLine.

The Aspen OnLine Client is required, as a local client, on the computer where

Aspen Online Server is installed.




Aspen Online DeploymentInstallation Notes If you plan to use versions of Aspen Custom Modeler, Aspen Plus, Aspen

Model Runner, Aspen EDR, or HYSYS that are earlier than aspenONE V7.3,install them prior to installing any software from the aspenONE V7.3

suites.

The required software from the Aspen Manufacturing Suite V7.3 can beinstalled either before or after the software from the Aspen Engineering

V7.3.

A recommended implementation architecture, for a productionenvironment, is to use at least four different computers: one for the

engineering workstation (to build and maintain the process models andonline applications, one for the Aspen Online Deployment online

application server, one running Aspen Remote Simulation Service, andone running the Aspen APC Web Server. If you are using Aspen Local

Security, then this would typically be installed on the same machine as

the Aspen APC Web Server. The necessary simulators (Aspen CustomModeler, Aspen Plus, HYSYS, EDR) would be installed on both the

engineering workstation and on the remote simulation server.

It is strongly recommended that all computers be members of a

Domain. If the online application server is installed on a computer that is

not a member of a Domain (that is, it is instead a member of aWorkgroup), then you must install Aspen Local Security and Aspen APCWeb Browser on that same computer – this is due to the way Windows

user authentication works.

If you use the Aspen Remote Simulation Server, change the serviceproperties of the Aspen Remote Simulation Server service to log on as the

Local System account and to interact with the desktop.




Aspen Online Deployment Post Installation Notes:

Desktop No post-install configuration is required.

In order for the product to be useful, you should have one or more of the

supported versions of HYSYS, Aspen Plus, Aspen Model Runner, Aspen

Exchanger Design and Rating, or Aspen Custom Modeler installed on thedesktop.

When you first use the Aspen Online Deployment Desktop to connect to anOnline Deployment application server (using the Online | Servers

menu), you may get a Windows Security Alert dialog box that informs youthat "Windows Firewall has blocked some features of this program":

Online Deployment Desktop. If you get this message, then click the

Unblock button on the dialog.




Aspen Online Deployment Post Installation Notes:Server

Note: Some of these items require the use of the server configuration dialog.That dialog is invoked from the Aspen Online Deployment Desktop, running

on the online application server computer, using the menu item Online |Configure Online Server.

Install Aspen CIM-IO, Process Data, and ADSA (Aspen Data SourceArchitecture) from the Aspen Manufacturing Suite (DVD 2). This must be

done on any computer intended to be an Online Deployment online

application server. This can be done before or after installing OnlineDeployment.

Install Aspen APC Web Server. This is best installed on a separatecomputer from the Aspen Online Deployment server. This can be done

before or after installing Aspen Online Deployment. See the AspenManufacturing Suite Advanced Process Control Installation Guide for

installation procedures.

Identify or install the security server. Aspen Online Deployment requiresthat security be provided by either Aspen Local Security or by an Aspen

Framework Server.

Select or change your security server, if needed.

1 Log on using the account name and password of an account in the

Administrators group of the computer where the software is installed.

2 Click Start | Programs | AspenTech | AFW Tools. The AFW Tools

dialog box is displayed.

3 Select the Client Registry Entries tab.

4 In the Name column, double-click URL. The URL defines the location

of the security server’s interface, pfwauthz.asp. The Update

Registry dialog box is displayed.

5 In the Data field, enter the security server location information. For

example,http://hostname/aspentech/afw/security/pfwauthz.asp,

where hostname is the name of the computer where the securityserver is installed.

Configure CIM-IO servers as needed. The procedure for doing thismanually is described in the Aspen Manufacturing Suite Advanced Process

Control Installation Guide. You can also use the Aspen Online Deployment

Desktop’s server configuration dialog. See the Aspen Online DeploymentDesktop help or details.

Use the ADSA Client Config Tool to establish public data sources for any

historians or data servers as needed. Use the Online Deployment Desktop’s server configuration dialog to

configure authorization to control access to the online applications. See

the Desktop’s online help for details.

Use the Online Deployment Desktop’s server configuration dialog tospecify I/O Servers corresponding to the CIM-IO, OPC, and Process Data

sources of interest.

Enable the RTE service by selecting the Enable Server check box in theserver configuration dialog.




If you use the Aspen Remote Simulation Server, change the service

properties of the Aspen Remote Simulation Server service to logon as the

Local System account and to interact with the desktop. This will ensurethat the maximum possible Windows resources are available to theprocess simulators.

local hard drive.

2 Click the plus sign to open the suboptions under Process Modeling(Aspen Plus).

3 Click the icon to the left of Local APED database and SQL and select

This feature will not be available. The screen should not appear asfollows:

Aspen Properties Mobile Installation Notes

Aspen Properties Mobile consists of the following parts:

Client app available on the App StoreSM

Aspen Properties Mobile server running on IIS

Aspen Properties

Aspen Properties Enterprise Database (APED) server

Sentinel License Manager providing licenses to Aspen Properties




Aspen Properties Mobile depends on the Internet Information Server (IIS)

web server provided with Windows. IIS is not pre-installed on many Windowsinstallations. The steps for installing IIS vary based on the version of Windows, but typically you can install it from the Add/Remove WindowsComponents section of the Add or Remove Programs control panel.

In addition, you need to obtain a server certificate for secure communication(https). Use the Web Server Certificate Wizard provided with IIS to install this

certificate.

IIS must be installed before you can install the Aspen Properties Mobile

Server.

Aspen Properties must be already installed on the Aspen Properties server.

The APED server can be the same one used throughout your company or canbe installed locally on the Aspen Properties server. The license server isnormally the same one used throughout your company.

The client for Aspen Properties Mobile is the free Aspen Properties Mobile app

available on the App Store on an iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, the

original iPhone, or iPod touch.

Aspen OLI Interface Installation Notes

Note: The Aspen OLI Interface is a subcomponent of the Aspen Plus andAspen Properties installations and is installed automatically.

Aspen OLI Interface consists of two parts: Aspen OLI Interface provided by AspenTech. The interface is included

with Aspen Plus and Aspen Properties and is provided without additionallicense.

OLI Engine 8.2 in Aspen Plus V7.3 licensed by OLI Systems.

Existing customers of Aspen OLI are entitled to the OLI license automatically.However, new customers of Aspen OLI V7.3 will need to sign a contract with

OLI Systems. OLI Systems will provide the necessary software license




manager, Hardlock security key, serial number, and password required to

access the OLI Engine in Aspen Plus.

Installation of Aspen OLI requires these steps:

1. Contact OLI Systems to obtain the OLI Hardlock security key and serial

number for installing the OLI Engine in Aspen Plus as part of the

continued licensing of Aspen OLI.2. Install the Aspen OLI Interface, which is part of the Process

Modeling (Aspen Plus) Installation. When this installation is complete,you will have installed all of the components required within the Aspen

framework to support the OLI Engine.

3. Install the OLI Engine in Aspen Plus V7.3 in order to complete theinstallation of Aspen OLI V7.3. A file named OLI Engine in AspenPlus V7.3.exe will be delivered when the Aspen OLI Interface is

installed (for example, to C:\Program Files\AspenTech\Aspen OLI

Interface V7.3). This is a self-extracting script that installs thecomponents supplied by OLI in a directory of your choosing (or the

default location C:\Program Files\OLI Systems\OLI Engine 8.2\Aspen

Plus V7.3.) During the installation, you will be asked to supply theserial number obtained in step 1.

4. Finally, plug in the OLI Hardlock key into an available USB port on

your system. It is recommended that you use the Security Settingsand Test program accessible from the Start | Programs | OLISystems | OLI Engine in Aspen Plus V7.3 | Tools menu to confirm

that the OLI License is operating correctly.

Installing OLI Engine for Aspen Plus

Overview

The OLI Engine for Aspen Plus is a collection of utilities that help you prepareAspen Plus simulation models using OLI aqueous and mixed solvent

electrolytes (MSE) physical properties and equilibrium calculations.

OLI HardLock Security Key

You must have an OLI HardLock security key and serial number to enable

OLI’s license manager. Existing customers will automatically get the OLIHardLock security key and serial number as part of the continued licensing of Aspen OLI. If you do not have the key or serial number, contact OLI Systems

(973-539-4996).

Installing the HardLock Security Key

Components

OLI Engine for Aspen Plus V7.3.exe will install the following components:

Chemistry Wizard. Used to prepare OLI chemistry model files and AspenPlus .bkp files.

Data Locator. A utility for searching species in the OLI component

databanks.

Chemistry Generator. The original utility for creating OLI chemistry

model files and the Aspen Plus .bkp files. The Chemistry Wizard has

replaced this utility.

OLI security system for the OLI Property and Equilibrium CalculationEngine.

Installing

If you are installing the file OLI Engine for Aspen Plus V7.3.exe that has

been placed on in C:\Program Files\AspenTech\Aspen OLI Interface

V7.3 as described in Step 3 above, proceed to Step 1, below.

Aspen Process ManualInstallation Notes

Server Configuration Notes: Although you may be able to install the Process Manual on non-server

operating systems, these support a limited number of connections, so onlya few users will be able to access this system simultaneously.

Security restrictions in service packs to Internet Explorer require the

domain name (typically the same as the machine name) to only includealphanumeric, “.” and “-” characters. In particular, the underscore

character is not permitted. If the domain name has other characters, then

cookies are not stored correctly and the Process Manual application willnot operate correctly.

Windows 2003 Make sure that the correct Windows components are installed; in

particular IIS and Active Server Pages (ASP), which are not installed by

default.

o Start the Add/Remove Windows Components dialog.

o Ensure that under Internet Information Services that theInternet Information Services Snap-In and World Wide

Web Server are installed.

Windows 2008 Make sure that the correct Windows components are installed; in

particular IIS and Active Server Pages (ASP), which are not installed bydefault. Using the Server Manager, ensure that the following are installed:

o Roles:

Web Server (IIS).

o Role services:

Web Server | Application development | ASP

Management Tools | IIS 6 Management Compatibility.

Application Configuration

During installation, the Process Manual application will be configured on theURL:

http://server/AspenTech/ProMan

This will be associated with the web sub-folder in the Process Manual

installation.

For improved performance, we recommend running the SLM Configuration

Wizard, selecting the Advanced settings and optimizing the licensing type.




This will reduce the server time when checking licenses. Refer to the SLM

documentation for further details.

To complete the installation, the system must be configured and the newdocuments registered.

To start this process, select the shortcut

o Start | Programs| AspenTech | Aspen EngineeringProcess Manual V7.3

| Aspen Process Manual Administration

This will display an administration page where some of the configurationoptions can be set.

Note: If the administration page fails to appear, with an HTTP Error 404message, check that you have configured IIS for Active Server Pages

(ASP). Also note that this is a different setting from ASP.NET.

Contact configuration

o Scroll down the page to the Intranet application settings

section.

o You should enter some appropriate settings for the contactdetails, and click on the Update contact settings button.

o The Performance and configuration section usually be left at thedefault values.

Document registration

o Scroll to the Document server settings section.

o The search path indicates where the documents are stored on

the server; this should have been configured correctly during

installation.

o However, you need to re-index the documents to make themavailable to the system, and to end users. To do this, click on

the Re-index documents button.o You should see a list of documents appearing on the screen.

Indexing usually takes up to a minute.

o When it is complete, click on the Return to administration page

button. To confirm that the process has worked, check that theTechnical area menu at the top left now has contents.

Before using the web server, please ensure that you have configured theSoftware License Manager (SLM). We recommend specifying a named

license server to improve performance. Refer to the SLM documentation

verification procedures you should follow to verify that the application

installed correctly. In addition, some products have product-specificconfiguration requirements that must be met before the product can be run.

Configuration file permissions: The tester verifies that the configurationfile was installed with the correct permissions.

SQL engine authentication settings: The tester reports all servers that

have at least one Aspen Properties database that is registered on thiscomputer. On the localhost line, it reports the authentication mode of the

local server and whether there is any problem with it. For other servers itcannot check this status, so it only reports what is required.

Database access settings: The tester attempts to access each registered

database and performs three tests.

o First, it verifies that it can connect to the database at all, witheither a Connection Successful message or a message

indicating the error that occurred.

14 In the lower pane, double-click Product_Comp.

This verification procedure has two parts:

Part One - Verifying Client-Server operation:

Proceeds to check client-server connectivity. This procedure assumes you

have a workspace created and connected to Microsoft Access or an RDBand are performing a Server install.

Part Two - Verifying component installation:

Necessary to perform basic component installation checks withoutchecking client-server operation.

Verifying Client-Server Operation

This procedure checks client-server connectivity. Exit each component beforemoving to the next step.

At this stage, establishing client/server connectivity is sufficient to verifysuccessful installation. It is not necessary to modify existing diagrams ordatasheets.

Note: Before starting this procedure, ensure you have a valid username andpassword (or obtain one from your System Administrator); this allows you tolog on to the Workspace(s) you wish to connect to.

Logging On and Setting Up User Privileges

1 Log on to your PC with Administrator privileges and start the Computer

Management control panel.

2 Under Services

Check that the AZ162Broker service is present and running.

If it is not running, check the Properties/LogOn settings to ensure theselected account exists and the password is correct.

3 Under Users and Groups

Ensure that everyone who is going to create workspaces is a member of the Zyqad Administrators group.




4 Run the Aspen Basic Engineering Administration tool and check the

local privileges adding additional users and roles as required.

Connecting to a Workspace

5 On the desktop, click Start | Programs | AspenTech | Aspen BasicEngineering V7.3 to display the Aspen Basic Engineering list of installedcomponents.

6 Select Explorer to open the component.

The Open Aspen Basic Engineering workspace dialog appears.

7 Select a Workspace to log on to. The name of the selected Workspaceshould be displayed in the left pane of the main window.

8 Close the Explorer.

Opening a Diagram

9 On the desktop, click Start | Programs | AspenTech | Aspen Basic

Engineering V7.3 and select Drawing Editor to open the component.


10 Select a Workspace to log on to.

11 Select File | Open, and select a diagram to open from the list displayed.

If none is listed, select File | New to create a new diagram and open it inthe main Drawing Editor window.

12 Close the Drawing Editor.

Opening a Datasheet

13 On the desktop, click Start | Programs | AspenTech | Aspen BasicEngineering V7.3 and select Excel Datasheet Editor to open the

component.


14 Select a Workspace to log on to.

15 In Excel version 2003, select Datasheet | Open Datasheet| by Type,for Excel versions 2007 and 2010 click the Add-Ins tab and select

Datasheet | Open Datasheet| by Type. Make a selection from the list

displayed. Click OK. The selected datasheet is displayed in theDatasheets dialog New tab.

16 Highlight the datasheet you have selected and click Open. This opens the

datasheet in the Excel Datasheet Editor main window.

17 Close Excel.

Verifying Component InstallationThis procedure confirms each installed component opens without error and is

available to the user. Exit each component before moving to the next step.

Note: If any component fails to open, or an error message is displayed,inform your System Administrator.




Logging On

1 Log on to your PC as a standard user (with no Administrator privileges).

2 On the desktop, click Start | Programs | AspenTech | Aspen BasicEngineering V7.3 to display the Aspen Basic Engineering list of installed

components.

3 Next, move the cursor over the Configuration option to displayConfiguration components.

4 Click the first component to open it and confirm it is available.

5 Repeat this procedure for the remaining Configuration components,ensuring each component launches without error.

6 Next, move the cursor over the Interfaces option to display Interfacecomponents.

7 Click the first component to open it and confirm it is available.

8 Repeat this procedure for the remaining Interfaces components,ensuring each component launches without error.

9 Next, open the following components individually ensuring each

component launches without error:

o Datasheet Editor

o Explorer

o Drawing Editor

o Excel Datasheet Editor

10 On the Windows Start menu, click Start | Programs | Aspen BasicEngineering V7.3; then click Excel Datasheet Generator.

11 For Office 2003, confirm an additional menu item ( Generate) has been

added to the Excel menu bar. For Office 2007, confirm an additional menuitem (Generate) has been added to the Add-Ins tab. This appears onlywhen the Excel Datasheet Generator component has been opened.

You have verified the Aspen Basic Engineering installation.

Configuring Aspen Basic Engineering

Client Only

In general, no additional configuration requirements are necessary.

If the Aspen Basic Engineering client is connected to its server via a networkof limited bandwidth and poor performance of the graphics client is observed,we recommend that the flowsheet symbols be replicated to the local machine.

Please refer to the online Help, Configuring Aspen Basic

Engineering/Administration Tool/Managing Workspaces/Symbol Replicationtopics for details on symbol replication.

Standalone Access RDB Install

On 32-bit server installation, no additional configuration requirements are

necessary if using the default workspace. On 64-bit, you must use Oracle or

SQL RDB.

Note: Only a correct and corresponding Oracle driver/client should be used in

conjunction with the Oracle server. See the notes on Oracle versions in Non-Aspen Software to ensure the same/correct driver and RDBMS version of

Oracle is available and installed on your machine(s).

For Oracle or SQL RDB installations, the Zyqad Administrator must configurethe Workspace for RDB access.

After you have installed and configured the simulation server software on theserver for any Aspen Modeler product, ensure that the installation is working

correctly.

To verify the server installation

1 On the desktop of the server computer, click Start | Run.

2 Enter the following command:

pathname\sim_server.exe

where:

pathname is the directory location of the file.

Step 1: Creating the Aspen Plus ProblemDefinition (.appdf) file

To create the Aspen Plus problem definition file

1 If you have not already done so, restart Windows to activate the changes

made to your configuration during the installation.

2 Create an empty test folder and copy into it the files from the Absorber

folder. The default location of this folder is:

4 In the Aspen Plus Startup dialog box, open the Absorber.bkp file inyour test folder.

3 Navigate to the Sample\AspenHydraulics\Single Phase folder and

open mixer dynamic.hsc.

4 Click Continue to restart the integrator. Click No on the Dynamic

Assistant warning and verify that the integrator runs without errors orwarnings (see bottom left end of the status bar).

5 Close the case.

Adding Services

To add services to the Windows server computer:

1 In Windows Notepad (or other text editor), open the services file. The

default location is:

Verifying Aspen Products

Aspen OnLine can drive Aspen Plus models and models from Aspen CustomModeler and related products such as Aspen Utilities.

If Aspen OnLine V7.3 is used to drive Aspen Plus models, verify thatAspen Plus V7.3 has been correctly installed on the server machine.

If Aspen OnLine V7.3 is used to drive Aspen Custom Modeler and related

product models, verify that Version V7.3 of the corresponding AspenCustom Modeler products has been installed properly.

Verifying Aspen OnLine

To verify Aspen OnLine on the server machine:

Server Machine

1 Go to the installed Aspen OnLine V7.3 product folder and copy thesubfolder, AOLSample, to a location under one of the local drives on the

server machine.

2 On the desktop, click Start | Programs | AspenTech | Aspen OnLine V7.3 |

Aspen OnLine Project Manager .

The Aspen OnLine Project Manager window appears.

3 For Computer enter the name of the server machine.

-or-Use the Browse button to locate the server machine name.

4 Click Register.

5 On the dialog box, enter the path to the AOLSample folder (step 1). Forexample:

D:\AspenTech\AspenOnLine\AOLSample

The new project name appears in the list in the Aspen OnLine ProjectManager window.

6 Click OK to register the sample project and close the dialog box.

7 Click Close to exit the Project Manager.

Simulation diagnostic messages appear in the Control Panel. The installationtest should finish with no errors or warnings.

Using the FORTRAN Compiler with Aspen

Plus

Running an Aspen Plus simulation requires a FORTRAN compiler if the model:

Requires compiling and linking user FORTRAN subroutines

Contains non-interpretable inline FORTRAN in the problem definition

Verifying the Installation of the FORTRANCompiler

After you install the FORTRAN compiler, you need to verify that it is operating

properly. The verification uses two example files: DRSEX14.BKP andDRUSR0.F.

To verify the installation of the FORTRAN Compiler:

1 Copy the files DRUSR0.F and DRSEX14.BKP, located in the \AspenPlus V7.3\GUI\XMP directory, to your working directory.

2 Click Start | Programs | AspenTech | Process Modeling V7.3 |Aspen Plus | Aspen Plus User Interface.

3 Open the file DRSEX14.BKP from your working directory.

4 On the Aspen Plus menu bar click View | Control Panel.

The Security dialog box appears.

Security dialog box.

6 Navigate to your test folder, and for the Save as Type, click Flow Driven

Dyn Simulation.

7 Click Save to export the dynamic simulation.

8 On the menu bar click Send To | Aspen Plus Dynamics Flow Driven.

Aspen Plus Dynamics starts automatically, with the DyEster simulation open.


After a few moments, the dynamic simulation starts to run.

10 Make sure that the time shown in the status bar at the bottom of thewindow is advancing.

The time appears after the words Dynamic at.

10 On the menu bar click Tools | Analysis | Property | Binary.

The Binary Analysis dialog box appears.

11 For Analysis type, select Txy.

Components water and ethanol are already specified for Component 1 andComponent 2.

12 Click Go to perform the analysis.

When complete, the Binary Analysis Results dialog box and the Txy plotshould appear.

13 In the Binary Analysis Results dialog box, click on Plot Wizard.

14 In the Plot Wizard Step 1 dialog box, click Next.

15 On Step 2 of the Plot Wizard, select KVL, then Next and Finish.

When the server is installed, the XML file Web.config is created in itsinstallation folder (typically C:\Program Files\AspenTech\Aspen Properties




Mobile V7.3). This file contains numerous settings established during

installation based on the locations of installed files and the version of Aspen

Properties installed on the server.

To modify the configuration:

1 Log into the server as an administrator.

2 Click Start | Programs | Control Panel | Administrative Tools |Services to open the Services window.

3 Right-click the IIS service and select Stop.

4 Edit the Web.config file as described in the next section.

5 In the Services window, right-click the IIS service and select Start.

You may edit the Web.config file in any text file editor (such as Notepad) orany XML editor. The appSettings tag and the sessionState tag contain the

settings which may be configured by the server administrator based on local

preferences. Within the appSettings tag are multiple add tags which eachcontain a key-value pair as attributes.

Key Description

apropmainPath Path to the folder containing apropmain.exe for the version of

Aspen Properties to be used. Usually this is in the Engine\xeq

subfolder of the Aspen Properties installation.workingDirectory Path to the working directory where Aspen Properties files are

stored during runs.

database databank List of databanks searched. Each databank is written as adatabase databank pair separated by a space, and multipledatabanks are separated by commas. This also defines thesearch order when the same parameters are available in multipledatabanks. All databases listed must be registered with AspenProperties Database Manager on the server computer.

ldapPath An LDAP URL for the domain in which users are authenticated.Typically this looks like LDAP://domain.company.com wheredomain is the Windows domain containing the user accountsand company.com is the Internet domain for the network.

ldapGroupName The group within the above domain containing users allowed toaccess Aspen Properties Mobile.

requirePassword If set to yes, require the user to enter the password every timethey connect to the server, and do not allow it to be saved onthe iPhone. This provides security to avoid allowing a lost orstolen phone to access property data which may be confidentialinformation of your company. If set to no, the password can be

stored in the Settings app as described below and does notsubsequently need to be entered.




Key Description

timeout Time (in minutes) that an idle session remains open. Licensesfor idle or interrupted sessions may be retained this long pastthe last activity. Sessions which are idle for longer than this mayexperience a brief delay to re-establish the connection the nexttime they contact the server.

Configuring the Aspen Properties Mobile Client

When you start the Aspen Properties Mobile client, if the server connection

has not been configured, the Getting started screen will appear, providing a

brief version of the instructions in this manual. If the server connection hasbeen configured incorrectly in the client or the server is not yet running oraccessible, the Cannot connect message will appear.

To configure the client to connect to a server:

1 Tap Change.

2 Tap the Domain Name field. Enter the domain name for the server.

3 Tap the User ID field and enter the user name.

Note: You can also tap return to move to the next field.

4 Tap the Password field and enter the password.

5 Tap Connect.

If the connection is unsuccessful, the Cannot connect message willreappear. If this happens, check the settings and network availability and tryagain.

These settings can be changed using the Settings app if needed:

1 Start the Settings app.

2 Locate and tap Aspen Properties Mobile.

3 Tap Server Connection.

4 Tap any field(s) and enter the new value(s).

5 Click the Home button to exit the Settings app.

Securing Aspen Properties Mobile

Aspen Properties Mobile uses Windows authentication in an LDAP domain

specified in the configuration file. The administrator should create a group for

all users who should be allowed to access Aspen Properties Mobile, andspecify the domain and group in the Web.config file as described above.

Aspen Properties Mobile server uses https on port 443. This port must be

accessible from the network(s) where users will connect with the client App in

order for Aspen Properties Mobile to work. You can test this by using thecommand telnet servername.domain.com 443 from this network.

It is possible for the Aspen Properties Mobile client to connect to a serverbehind a firewall using a VPN connection. You will need to have a VPN server

which provides such access and configure the connection using the standard

mechanism on the iOS device under Settings | General | Network | VPN.

Aspen Properties Mobile uses a secure connection (https) to ensure the

security of the data when using open networks.




Verifying the Aspen Properties Mobile Installation

Aspen Properties Mobile Server uses Aspen Properties installed on the same

computer as the Aspen Properties Mobile Server. It uses the sameconfiguration for Aspen Properties Enterprise Database and licensing as Aspen

Properties. You can test that these are configured properly by running AspenProperties on the Aspen Properties server.

If the configured client app can connect to the server and run a calculation,

then the installation and configuration has succeeded. If it fails, seeTroubleshooting Aspen Properties Mobile.

Setting Up the Aspen Properties Web

Interface

Aspen Properties Web Interface, a component of Aspen Properties V7.3, is aWeb-browser interface that enables users to quickly look up physical propertyinformation or to perform property calculations.

These are the system requirements for Aspen Properties Web Interface: Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) must be installed. Restart your

computer after the IIS install.

Aspen Properties V7.3 must be installed on the machine running the web

server.

Note: Only a system administrator should setup and configure AspenProperties Web Interface.

To set up Aspen Properties Web Interface for deployment

1 On your Windows XP or Vista web server machine, install Aspen Properties

V7.3, using the Standard install option.

For instructions see "Standard Installation."

2 Configure IIS for Aspen Properties Web Interface.

For instructions, see “Configuring IIS for the Aspen Properties Web

Interface.”

3 Set up Properties Web Interface user folders to store problem files on the

web server.

For instructions, see “Setting Up Properties Web Interface User Folders."

Configuring IIS for the Aspen Properties

Web InterfaceAfter you install Aspen Properties on the web server, you must configure theInternet Information Server (IIS) for Properties Web Interface.

To configure IIS for Aspen Properties Web Interface:

1 On your desktop click Start | Settings | Control Panel |

Administrative Tools | Internet Information Services.




2 In the console tree expand Internet Information Server |

<your_IIS_server_name> | Web Sites.

3 Right click Default Web Site and click New | Virtual Directory on themenu.

4 In the Virtual Directory Creation Wizard, click Next to continue.

5 Enter WebProperties as the Alias to be used to access the virtualdirectory. Then click Next to continue.

6 Click Browse and locate the WebProperties directory. For example:

D:\Program Files\AspenTech\Aspen Properties V7.3\WebProperties


8 For the Access permissions, select:

o Read

o Run scripts

o Execute

9 Click Next.

10 Click Finish.

The WebProperties folder appears under the Default Web Site in theconsole tree.

11 Set up access security for valid users of Aspen Properties Web Interface.

12 Provide access to Out-of-Process (OOP) COM objects.

Setting Up Directory Security

To set up access security for Aspen Properties Web Interface

1 In the console tree of the Internet Service Manager, right-click theWebProperties Default Web Site; then click Properties on the menu.

2 Display the Virtual Directory tab and click the High (isolated) option

for Application Protection options. Then click OK.

3 Restart the Web Server service. This can be done by right-clicking on<your_IIS_server_name> and selecting the All Tasks | Restart IIS...

option. Pick the option Restart Internet Services on

<your_IIS_server_name> and click OK.

4 In the console tree of the Internet Service Manager, right-click the

WebProperties Default Web Site; then click Properties on the menu.5 Grant the access rights to valid users of Aspen Properties Web Interface at

your site.

For example, to display the Windows authentication dialog box when auser wants to access Aspen Properties:

1 On the Properties dialog box, display the Directory Security tab and

click the Edit button for Anonymous Access and AuthenticationControl.




2 In the Authentication Methods dialog box:

o Select the Integrated Windows authentication check box.

o Clear the Anonymous access check box.

o Clear the check boxes of the other options.

3 Click OK, and then click OK again to close the dialog box.

Providing Access to Out-Of-Process (OOP)COM Objects

The IWAM_<your_IIS_server_name> accounts must include permissions to

launch and access OOP COM objects to run Web Properties successfully.

To add permission to access OOP COM objects

1 On the server machine, click Start | Run. On the Run dialog box enter

dcomcnfg and click OK.

2 Open Component Services | Computers | My Computer.

3 Right-click My Computer and select Properties.

4 Display the COM Security tab. In the Access Permissions section, click

Edit Default.

5 On the Access Permission dialog box, click Add.

6 On the Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box, click

Locations and select <your_IIS_server_name>. Then add theseaccounts:

o IUSR_ <your_IIS_server_name>. This is a built-in account with

guest privileges that gives anonymous access to IIS.

o IWAM_ <your_IIS_server_name>. This is a built-in accountwith guest privileges for IIS to start out of process applications.

o Everyone or other <specific user names> according to whoyou want to access the Web Server.

Note: In order to select specific user names, you may need to clickLocations again and select the appropriate domain containing those useraccounts.

7 Click OK.

8 On the Access Permission dialog box click OK.

9 In the Launch and Activation Permissions section on the COM

Security tab, click Edit Default.

10 On the Launch Permission dialog box click Add.

11 On the Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box, add the same

accounts from the same locations as you added to the Access

Permission in step 6.

o IUSR_ <your_IIS_server_name>. This is a built-in account with

guest privileges that gives anonymous access to IIS.

o IWAM_ <your_IIS_server_name>. This is a built-in account

with guest privileges for IIS to start out of process applications.

o Everyone or other <specific user names> according to whoyou want to access the Web Server.




12 Click OK.

13 On the Launch Permission dialog box click OK.

14 Click OK to close the My Computer Properties dialog box.

Note: If you give access to Everyone, make sure that Everyone has Guestaccess permissions on the computer.

Restricting User Access Using File

Permissions

If the file system on the server is NTFS, then user access to the Aspen

Properties Web Interface can be controlled using file permissions. Forexample, if your Aspen Properties installation is on:

D:\Program Files\AspenTech\Aspen Properties V7.3\WebProperties

then you can restrict permission to the:

D:\Program Files\AspenTech\Aspen Properties

V7.3\WebProperties\Files

folder by right-clicking on the folder and choosing Properties. On theSecurity tab of the dialog box, pick the users you want to have access to the

application.

Setting Up Properties Web Interface UserFolders

Users of Properties Web Interface need a place to store their problem files onthe web server. You must create the WebProperties user folder directory and

specify the location in these Properties Web Interface files:

Userfolder.inc

Userfolder.js

Both files are located in the \AspenTech\Aspen Properties V7.3\WebProperties\Custom directory.

To set up the storage directory for Properties Web Interface user fileson the web server

1 Create a directory under which Properties Web Interface users can storeproblem files.

For example: E:\WebPropsUsers

2 In this directory, create a folder for each Properties Web Interface user.

For example: E:\WebPropsUsers\username1

3 Edit Userfolder.inc in the \ AspenTech\ Aspen PropertiesV7.3\WebProperties\Custom directory and specify the UserFolder onyour web server.

For example:

Running the Aspen Properties WebInterface

Open Internet Explorer on the server machine and use the URL:<http://localhost/webproperties>

You should be able to access the Aspen Properties Web Interface.

From any other client machine open Internet Explorer and use the URL:

<http://your_IIS_server_name/webproperties>

You should be able to access the Aspen Properties Web Interface.

Note: If you are unable to access the Web application as specified above, the

most likely reason is the lack of adequate security privileges provided to theuser in the previous steps.

Configuring Excel for Performing PropertyCalculations

Before you can use the Excel Calculator feature to perform property

calculations with Aspen Properties from within a Microsoft Excel workbook,

you must configure Excel to use an add-in.

Note: If you are upgrading from a previous version of Aspen Properties, you

must reconfigure Excel to use the new version of the add-in before Excel willuse the new version of Aspen Properties.




Aspen Remote SimulationService

Configuring Aspen Remote SimulationService

The service normally uses port 8093. You may need to change it in certaincases, such as if another program on that computer uses that port, or you

need to use a particular port to connect through a firewall. To change the port

which the service uses, edit Program Files\AspenTech\Aspen RemoteSimulation Service V7.3\server.config in Notepad.

Locate the line

<channel ref="tcp" port="8093">

And change the number to the port you want to use, for example:

<channel ref="tcp" port="8099">

Running Aspen Remote Simulation Service

(ARSS)

Aspen Remote Simulation Service™ is a component that provides a remote

execution environment for other AspenTech tools including Aspen SimulationWorkbook and Aspen Model Deployment. ARSS allows model developers todeploy models onto a server accessible to several client computers.

AspenTech simulation software must be installed on the server, but it is not

required on the client computers. This significantly reduces the installationrequirements for the client computers.

Note that any remote software interacting with ARSS should have additional

specific information necessary for its use; for instance, Aspen SimulationWorkbook includes the Aspen Remote Simulation Service Status Monitor and

documentation on how to use it.

Tip: It is a best practice to use ARSS on the same computer as the

simulation-creating software.




Aspen Solubility Modeler

Configuring an Aspen Solubility Modeler

InstallationTo configure Excel to use the Aspen Properties Add-in:

1 Start Microsoft Excel from the Start menu. Do not open any existingspreadsheet.

2 In the Excel menu bar, click Tools | Add-Ins.

Note: In Excel 2007, click the Office button in the upper left corner of thewindow:

Then click Excel Options, then Add-Ins. In the Manage field at thebottom of the window, select Excel Add-Ins and click Go.

The Add-Ins window appears. If Aspen Properties appears in the list of

Add-Ins and is checked, click Cancel and check which version of Aspen

Properties Excel Calculator is installed by selecting Aspen | AspenProperties | About Aspen Properties. The version number appears

below Aspen Properties Excel Calculator near the top of the Aboutmessage that appears.

o Note: In Excel 2007, look for this command on the Add-Ins tab of the

ribbon. If the version of Aspen Properties Excel Calculator is equal toor newer than the version of Aspen Solubility Modeler, skip to step 7.

o If the version of Aspen Properties Excel Calculator is older than the

version of Aspen Solubility Modeler, open Tools | Add-Ins again andclear the checkbox by Aspen Properties. Then close all Excel windowsand restart this procedure at step 1.

If Aspen Properties appears in the list of Add-Ins and is not checked,

or it does not appear in the list of Add-Ins at all, continue with step 3.

3 In the Add-Ins window, click Browse.

4 Locate AspenProperties.xla in the Aspen PropertiesV7.3\Engine\xeq folder. Click OK. Aspen Properties should be added tothe Add-Ins list, with the box next to it checked.

Note: If a previous version of Aspen Properties had been installed in Excel

but was uninstalled, Excel will prompt you to overwrite the Add-In entry

with the new one you selected: A file named'<path>\Engine\xeq\Aspen Properties.xla' already exists in thislocation. Do you want to replace it?

Click Yes. The message seems to indicate Excel is replacing the .xla fileyou just selected, but actually it is just replacing the entry in the Add-Ins

list.

5 Click OK to close the Add-Ins window. The Aspen menu should be addedto the menu bar.

Note: In Excel 2007, the menu appears on the Add-ins tab of the ribbon.




6 Close all Excel windows, then restart Excel from the Start menu.

7 In Excel 2007 only, click the Office button, then Excel Options, then

Trust Center, then Trust Center Settings. In Excel 2010 only, click File| Options | Trust Center | Trust Center Settings. The Trust Center

window appears.

8 In Excel 2010 only, click Trusted Locations. If the AspenTech folder is

not already listed, click Add new location. Browse and select theAspenTech folder (typically C:\Program Files\AspenTech or

C:\Program Files (x86)\AspenTech) and check Subfolders of thislocation are also trusted. Then click OK.

9 In Excel 2010 only, click Add-ins. Set the options as follows:




10 In Excel 2007 or 2010 only, click ActiveX Settings and specify the

settings as shown:

11 In Excel 2007 or 2010 only, click Macro Settings and specify the settingsas shown:




Then click OK twice and then close all Excel windows and restart Excel.12 In Excel 2010 only, click External Content and specify the settings as

shown:

13 Then click OK twice and then close all Excel windows and restart Excel.

14 In the Aspen menu (on the Add-ins tab of the Ribbon in Excel 2007),

select Aspen Properties | User Options. Check the box Suppressmessages related to invalid input. Click OK.

15-When Excel asks whether you want to make these your default settings,click Yes.

To launch Aspen Solubility Modeler:

1 On the desktop, click Start | Programs | AspenTech | ProcessDevelopment V7.3 | Aspen Solubility Modeler. The Aspen Solubility

Modeler <version> folder opens. The NRTL-SAC folder contains the




Microsoft Excel and Aspen Properties files used with Aspen Solubility

Modeler.

2 Open either of the Excel files, as appropriate for your task.

The first time you start Aspen Solubility Modeler, the Security Warning

appears.

2 Click Always trust macros from this publisher, then click EnableMacros to enable Aspen Solubility Modeler to run and prevent thismessage from appearing in the future.

3 If this message appears:

Click Don't Update. This message is not related to Aspen SolubilityModeler.

4 Some of the workbooks use ActiveX controls to perform special

calculations such as property analysis and phase diagrams. If this windowappears:




Click Yes to enable the ActiveX controls supplied with Aspen Solubility

Modeler.

5 If this dialog box appears:

Click Continue.

6 When updating an existing file from a previous version, if the file is notupdating its content and this message appears, clicking Enable Content

may help.

7 When the network or local computer is slow, it may take up to a fewminutes to check out the license or initialize ActiveX controls. During thistime, the following message may appear once or several times:

Click OK as many times as necessary until the Excel workbook fullyinitializes.

Aspen Utilities Planner

Aspen Utilities On-Line

OptimizerAspen Utilities On-Line Optimizer is a solution that consists of Aspen UtilitiesPlanner, Aspen Online, and CIMIO. The Aspen Utilities Planner and Aspen

Online installation, configuration, and verification are outlined in this

document. Please refer to the Aspen Manufacturing Suite DVD for CIMIOdocumentation.

Verifying an Aspen Utilities PlannerInstallation

Use the following procedure to verify an installation of Aspen Utilities on a

user PC:






To verify the installation of the Aspen Utilities Planner V7.3 product

on a user PC:

1 On the desktop, click Start | Programs | AspenTech | ProcessModeling V7.3 | Aspen Utilities Planner | Aspen Utilities Planner .

2 Open the Example_HTYPE.auf file in the Aspen Utilities Planner workingfolder.


Aspen Utilities Planner takes a few seconds to run the simulation. The

simulation should run with no errors.

To verify the Aspen Utilities Planner V7.3 Microsoft Excel Add-in:

1 Start Microsoft Excel 2003 or 2007.

2 On the menu click Aspen Utilities | Open Aspen Utilities.

3 Navigate to the Aspen Utilities Planner working folder and openExample_HTYPE.auf .

4 On the menu bar, click Aspen Utilities | Simulate Flowsheet.

5. Click YES on the pop up to create simulation links spreadsheet.

After a few seconds a pop up message box will indicate the completion of simulation.

6 On the menu bar, click Aspen Utilities | Optimization | Editors.

7 A pop up box appears requesting confirmation for each of the editors. ClickYES to create the editors.

Aspen Utilities Planner Data Editors are then displayed in Excel.

8 On the menu bar, click Aspen Utilities | Optimize Flowsheet.

The optimization should complete with no errors.

9 Close Aspen Utilities and Microsoft Excel.

This chapter describes the procedures you should follow if you are adding

Aspen Engineering products or upgrading previously installed Aspen

Engineering products.

Adding Aspen EngineeringProductsThe process of adding Aspen Engineering products is the same as installingAspen Engineering Products. The only difference is that you must click Modifyon the Program Maintenance screen when it appears. On the Feature

Selection dialog box, select the additional Aspen Engineering products you

want to install.

Upgrading Aspen EngineeringProducts

Before You Upgrade

Before you upgrade any existing Aspen product:

Create forward-compatible backups of your current projects and store

them in a safe location. Binary files are not compatible across differentversions of Aspen products.

Create backups of any customizations you wish to retain and store themin a safe location.

Note: When you remove the old version of the Aspen product, the product

folder and all of its contents will be deleted.

Aspen OnLine Users

To back up your projects for Aspen OnLine:

1 Launch Aspen OnLine.

2 Click File | Export.

The Export Project Configuration Information window appears.

3 On the Project tab, set the Destination Directory to the directory whereyou want your old project files to be stored.

4 Click Export.

If you have any Beta products installed, uninstall them before installing the

new versions of those products.

Occasionally, a manual change is made to an application file to fix a specific

problem. Such a change is referred to as a “hot fix.” If a “hot fix” has been

made to any currently installed Aspen application, you must uninstall theapplication before installing any service pack or upgrade.

Product Upgrade Task Summary

The following table summarizes the tasks you should perform to prepare for

an Aspen software upgrade. An asterisk (*) indicates the recommendationthat you keep the previous version on your machine (if there is sufficient diskspace) until you are satisfied with the installation of the new version.

1 If desired or necessary (due to disk space or compatibility limitations),remove old versions of Aspen products.

2 Install the upgraded Aspen product. See "Installing Aspen Products" for

specific details.

Repairing or Modifying Products

For information on repairing or modifying Aspen products, see "Installing Aspen Products," for more details.

After You Upgrade

Updating Aspen Batch Process DeveloperProject Files

Aspen Batch Process Developer automatically updates previously createdprojects to a format compatible with new versions.

To convert existing projects to a format compatible with the newversion of Aspen Batch Process Developer:

1 After you install the new version of Aspen Batch Process Developer, startAspen Batch Process Developer.

2 Open an existing project.

A message box should appear indicating that the project is being converted tothe new version.

The conversion process may take some time. Please be patient.

3 When the conversion is complete, verify that your projects have been

successfully converted and that your simulation results are accurate.

Before You Remove Any AspenProductIf you are removing products in preparation for an upgrade, save files andcustomizations in portable formats and in safe locations. For more

information, see Chapter 6, “ Adding and Upgrading Aspen Products.”

OverviewUse the instructions in this section to remove Aspen products and theirsubfeatures from your system using AspenTech DVDs.

There are three methods for initiating the removal or uninstallation of

AspenTech software as described below.

Removing Aspen Products

Select one of the following options to remove AspenTech products.

Using the Microsoft Add/Remove Utility1 On the Microsoft taskbar, click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add

or Remove Programs.

The Add/Remove Programs dialog box appears with a list of all programsavailable for removal on the computer.

2 Select the AspenTech product to remove, such as Aspen Plus; then click

Remove.

3 Click Yes to confirm removal of the feature.

The Windows Installer begins the removal.

4 When the removal is complete, on the Add/Remove Programs dialog

box, click Close

Engineering.

If this problem occurs, do the following:

1 Start the MS Excel application.

2 Click Tools | Add-In.

3 Clear the Aspen Basic Engineering option.

Note: You must do this for each network user PC when Aspen Basic

Engineering is uninstalled.

Error Messages

License ErrorsProblem You try to run an Aspen application, and the following message appears:

LICENSE VALIDATION/CHECKOUT FAILURE FOR <Aspen Product>

Cause The licensing for the Aspen product has not been properly installed.

Solutions Reinstall the license. For instructions, see Software License Manager (SLM) Installation and Reference Guide.

Client-Server Installations

This section lists error messages that you may encounter when installing the

Aspen products in a client-server configuration.

The following error messages may appear if a server verification fails.

Message Failed to connect to remote host via rexec. Probable cause badpassword, bad hostname, or network not installed.

Cause Either the remote or the local host cannot resolve the remote or localhost name into an address. Each operating system and network protocolresolves names differently.

Solution Check to make sure that you have a valid DNS or WINS server on thenetwork and that the client is properly configured to access it.

Troubleshooting Installation of

Aspen Products

.NET Framework ErrorProblem When installing Aspen products, you get an error message about .NET

Framework versions..

Cause Your machine has no version of .NET installed. The AspenTech installerinstalls .NET Versions 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5. When the installer attemptsto install .NET Version 3.0, it displays an error.

Solution Cancel the AspenTech installation, reboot your machine, and restart themachine. Then continue with the AspenTech installation.

Installation Stalls When Installing AspenSimulation Workbook or Aspen UtilitiesPlannerProblem When installing Aspen Simulation Workbook or Aspen Utilities Planner,

the AspenTech installer gets into an infinite loop early in the installation(while installing required components before the actual product




installation begins).

Cause When Aspen Simulation Workbook or Aspen Utilities Planner is installed

on MS Office 2003, the patch for Microsoft KB 907417 is required beforeour product can be installed. This patch can fail in some cases whenthere is a problem with the Office installation, and when it does so it cansend the AspenTech installer into an infinite loop.

Solution Visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907417 to download and installthe patch manually. Any errors that occur during the installation will bevisible. The patch may request the original Office installation media torestore damaged or missing files. If the patch still fails, consult Microsoftsupport.

Troubleshooting SQL ServerProblems

Microsoft SQL Server Setup msxml6r.dll WarningWhen installing MS SQL Server 2005 or 2008 (including the Express edition)

on non-English versions of Windows XP SP3, you may get a notice saying thatthe installer cannot update msxml6r.dll because the file is protected.

This is a conflict between Windows XP SP3 and SQL Server. SQL Server tries

to install the English version of a DLL which is included in localized versionwith Windows XP SP3. The localized version works with SQL Server, so this is

not generally a problem.

If this message appears, click OK (or local equivalent). Microsoft has moreinformation about this problem at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958897.

Configuring the SQL Server for SQL Server andWindows Authentication

If SQL Server or SQL Express is required, it must be configured to use SQL

Server and Windows authentication mode.

Configuring Microsoft SQL Server or SQL Express


Server Desktop Edition (MSDE) or MS SQL Server 2000 due to problemsencountered with these SQL servers.


Aspen products (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, and so on), SQL 2005 SP3 is the




minimum requirement as an install pre-requisite. Be sure to choose Mixed


the "authentication mode" step of the SQL Server installation. If you are notusing mixed mode and have finished the Aspen installation, follow these stepsto ensure the mixed authentication mode is enabled.






For SQL Server Express, the user interface for configuring the server is notinstalled by default. If you do not have it, download it from Microsoft:

command, operable program, or batch file.

Cause The sim_server.exe program is not at the location you specified.

Solution Repeat the verification, specifying the correct location for thesim_server.exe program.

Message The dynamic link library filename.dll could not be found in the specifiedpath.

Cause A DLL required to run the sim_server.exe program is missing from

your system. This is probably caused by a failure during installation.

Solution Note the name of the DLL and then use the Search tool to search yoursystem for the missing DLL.

Message Process simserver failed to start. If you want to see more detail, clickthe Details button.

Cause The User Rights Policy that allows the user to log on as a batch job hasnot been granted to the user shown in the error message.

Solution See "Configuring a Windows Server as an Aspen Host."

You might see these error messages on a user PC that is unable to connect to

a server:

Message CreateProcessAsUser: The system cannot find the file specified.(2)

Cause The program specified does not exist.

Solution Check that the server code is installed at the location specified, for




example, C:\Program Files\AspenTech\AMSystemV7.3\bin\

sim_server.exe.

Troubleshooting Aspen Basic Engineering

Using Applications Immediately after anInstallation

If you attempt to open Aspen Basic Engineering applications immediatelyafter installation, and have not yet shut down your PC/server, the followingerror message may appear:

If these messages appear:

1 Exit all Aspen Basic Engineering applications and log out of windows.

2 Log back into Windows.

3 Open your Aspen Basic Engineering applications.

Restarting the Aspen Basic Engineering BrokerService Manually

If you get the following error message during the install, you will be able tostart the broker manually once the installation has completed.

The most common cause of this message is an invalid password entered intothe Aspen Basic Engineering Broker dialog during the install.

To start the broker service:

1 Ensure the user account password is valid and meets your company’scurrent network password policy:




o Checking the user account password

With the username and password given during the Aspen

Basic Engineering Broker dialog try logging into the localmachine with these settings. If the user account fails to log in,

it is likely that the password you have does not met yournetwork password policy. If the account is not on the Local

Machine contact your network administrator for assistance. If itis a Local User account follow the Changing the user

account password procedure below.

o Changing the user account password

A Right click My Computer and select Manage, or go to Start| Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools |Computer Management.

B In the left pane, click Local Users and Groups followed bythe Users option.

C Right-click the user used to run the Zyqad broker; then click

Set Password. Enter and confirm a new password. If you have

problems with this, contact your network administrator forassistance.

2 Ensure the user is a member of the Zyqad Administrator group:

o Right click My Computer | Manage, or go to Start | Settings| Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer

Management.

o In the left pane, click Local Users and Groups; then click

o In the list of members, see if the user you want to run theZyqad Broker is listed. If the user is not, click Add. In Lookin:, click the domain the user is in: if it is a Local User account

this will be the computer name. On the list, click the user; then

and click Add or, alternatively in the bottom textbox, type theDOMAIN\USERACCOUNT; then click Check Names.

3 Restart the Aspen Basic Engineering Broker Service:

Troubleshooting Aspen Batch ProcessDeveloper

Aspen Batch Process Developer has the following special troubleshootingprocedures.

Problem You cannot generate Excel reports.

Cause This can occur when certain system files shared by Aspen Batch ProcessDeveloper and Excel are not properly registered.

Solution You can avoid this problem by following the installation instructions forExcel before installing Aspen Batch Process Developer. Unfortunately, if you already have this problem, you must start over:

1 Uninstall Aspen Batch Process Developer by following the instructionsin “Chapter 8: Removing Aspen Products.”

2 Uninstall Microsoft Office.

3 From Windows Explorer or File Manager, manually delete the files inC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Dao.

These are the system files that are not properly registered.

4 Reinstall Microsoft Office, ensuring that the Data Access option forExcel is selected.

5 Reinstall Aspen Batch Process Developer

Problem You cannot generate Visio diagrams.

Cause This can occur if the PC has not rebooted after Aspen Batch ProcessDeveloper or Visio installation, or if Visio cannot locate the Add-ons




path when Visio is launched.

Solution You can avoid the first problem by rebooting your PC after installation.

If Visio cannot locate the Add-ons path when it is launched, check thecheck box in the Launch Visio dialog box that appears when you launchthe equipment diagram from Aspen Batch Process Developer. This resetsthe Visio Add-ons path and restarts Visio, which should then generate

the diagram correctly.

Troubleshooting Aspen EconomicEvaluation (Aspen Process Economic

Analyzer, Aspen Capital Cost Estimator,Aspen In-Plant Cost Estimator)

Description

Users running Microsoft Windows with Windows Installer 3.1 may experience

coexistence issues with Economic Evaluation V7.2 and previous versions as

described below:1. The following aspenONE applications are installed on a machine:

a. EEV7.2.1 (or EEV7.2), EEV7.3

b. HYSYS and/or Aspen Plus V7.2+EPs

2. Invoking the Export to EE feature in either HYSYS or Aspen Plus

invokes EEV7.2.1 (or EEV7.2) instead of EEV7.3. This may occur if none of the EE installed software versions are run after installation.

This is due to the windows installer resiliency behavior. Once the

problem occurs in one user environment, it is observed with all otherusers on that machine.

Workaround:

1. Update Windows Installer to version 4.5, which can be downloaded fromthe following site.

a. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5a58

b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4&displaylang=en

Note: See the installation guide on how to check which version of Windows Installer is present on your system.

2. Ensure EE V7.2.1 (or EEV7.2)/V7.3 is executed as standalone application

before invoking EE via HYSYS V7.2 (or Aspen Plus V7.2).

3. In cases where the problem occurs, an upgrade/repair installation of EE

V7.3 can be performed by running the EE V7.3 installation again. The

procedure allows the EE V7.3 to be reset as the default costing feature w/

HYSYS /Aspen Plus V7.2.

Comment: Following the steps below on the system where EE V7.3 is

installed alongside previous versions of EE can avoid the aforementioned

issues.

1. Update the Windows Installer to version 4.5




2. Launch EE V7.2.1 (or EEV7.2) and allow the EE V7.2.1 Windows

Installer resiliency to go through, if this the first time EE V7.2.1 is

being launched under this user account.

3. After closing EE V7.2.1, Launch EE V7.3 and allow the EE V7.3

Windows Installer resiliency to go through, if this the first time EE V7.3

is being launched under this user account.

Troubleshooting Aspen Online Deployment

Aspen Online Deployment has the following special troubleshootingprocedures.

Problem An online application reports that the solver failed.

Cause This can occur for a variety of reasons, from a failure to converge on asolution to a network communication failure.

Solution In order to solve the problem, you should first examine the localapplication log. This log is found in the \Documents and Settings\AllUsers\Application

Data\AspenTech\RTE\V7.3\Clouds\Online\sys directory. The logis named with the application name and has the extension .log (forexample, the application HEATXN1 would have a log HEATXN1-solver.log); there is also a backup log file that contains older logmessages (for example, HEATXN1-solver_backup.log).

You can get more detailed information, including all the solver messages,

by turning on diagnostic logging for an application. Turn on diagnosticlogging by using the APC Web Server to set the DebugPrint entry toFileOutput. You get access to the DebugPrint entry by clicking on theapplication name in one of the online views in PCWS. The diagnostic logfiles are in the same location as the application logs, but have a nameending with “-diag.log” instead of “-solver.log”.

Note: To avoid causing further problems with the software, make a copyof the log and examine the copy.

Examine the log file to see if there is a solver problem (for example,failure to converge) or a system problem (for example, an exception anda software procedure call stack trace).

If the failure was due to a solver problem, and the application wasconfigured to save a snapshot when the solver fails, then you can usethe Aspen Online Deployment Desktop to retrieve the application

snapshot matching the failed solution; you can extract the case file fromthat snapshot, load it into the simulator desktop, and determine thereason that a solution could not be calculated.

If the failure was due to a system problem, and the cause of the problemis not clear from the error messages in the log, then contact AspenTech

Support for assistance.




Troubleshooting Aspen Plus

Microsoft SQL Server Setup msxml6r.dll Warning

C:\Program Files \AspenTech\Aspen Plus V7.3, should always be

larger than 1 MB.

Solution 1 In a Command Prompt (DOS) window, run theAPFormSetup.exe utility. The default location is:C:\Program Files\AspenTech\Aspen Plus V7.3\GUI\XEQ.

2 On the Register Forms dialog box, accept all defaults; then clickNext.

3 On the Register PlotWizard dialog box, accept all defaults; thenclick Finish.

Troubleshooting Aspen Properties Mobile

Case 1: App Cannot Connect to Server

Problem

App shows Cannot connect message.

Cause 1

Server domain name, username, and/or password are misspelled or wrong.

Solution 1

Fix these in the app's settings. See Configuring the Aspen PropertiesMobile Client in Chapter 2.

Cause 2

Server computer is offline or IIS is not running.

Solution 2

Fix these problems on the server.

Cause 3

Server network is unreachable.

Solution 3

Move to a location where Wi-fi or 3G phone service is available.




Solution 8

Ensure that the user IUSR_ MachineName has all the appropriate permissions

to be able to connect to the server. This is the default Windows account setunder IIS settings. If needed, add the IUSR_MachineName account to the

correct Windows user group that grants read/write access to this account. Formore details on the various permissions that need to be granted to this

account, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271071 .

Case 2: Server Returns No Results

Problem

App connects to server, but all property runs return no results.

Cause

SQL server used by Aspen Properties Enterprise Database is not running ornot reachable from Aspen Properties Mobile server.

Solution

Log on directly on the Aspen Properties Mobile server and run Aspen

Properties Database Configuration Tester to diagnose this failure. See Aspen Engineering Installation Guide and/or help for Aspen Properties

Database Manager for more information.

Case 3: Installation Appears to Succeed butServer Does Not Work

ProblemWith a newly installed Aspen Properties Mobile server, no clients can connect.

Note: First check the additional causes for connection failures in App Cannot

Connect to Server, above.

Cause 1

Web service extensions are not configured for IIS.

Solution 1

In the Internet Information Services control panel, ensure that web

service extensions are enabled. The exact procedure for this varies withdifferent versions of IIS; see IIS documentation for details.

Cause 2

DCOM configuration does not permit Aspen Properties Mobile server to launch

Aspen Properties.




Solution 2

1 Run dcomcnfg.

2 In the tree, navigate to Component Services | Computers | MyComputer | DCOM Config | APropCOMServer.

3 Right-click APropCOMServer and click Properties.

4 Click the Security tab.5 In the Launch and Activation Permissions frame, Customize should

be selected. Click Edit.

6 Depending on the version of IIS, you should see in the list of accounts

either ASP.NET Machine Account on the local machine or NETWORK

SERVICE on the local machine. Click this account name.

7 This account should have Local Launch and Local Activationpermissions. Ensure the boxes for these permissions are checked.

8 Click OK to close all the dialog boxes.

Troubleshooting Aspen OLI

Note: The Aspen OLI Interface is a subcomponent of the Aspen Plus andAspen Properties installations, not Aspen OLI.

Error messages resulting from the Software License Manager’s not finding a

license, and/or the OLI Security system’s not installing correctly will clearlyidentify which one is not functioning properly.

If the Software License Manager is not functioning correctly, the errormessage displayed on the Aspen OLI control panel will be as shown below:

Similarly, incorrect functioning of the OLI Security System will refer to the “OLI Security” and “OLI Engine” in the error messages. Both types of

messages are shown below:




Dongle Not Attached Properly

You see an error message from the OLI Security System indicating that thedongle is not attached properly. In the OLI Security Error figure above, the

red text indicates “key not initialized”

SolutionCheck the dongle to make sure it is attached to your computer firmly. Also,ensure that the dongle is the first one in the port if you have more than one

dongle attached to this same port.




2 ARSS must be added to the application exceptions list in theWindows Firewall settings.

3 The port (8093 by default) that ARSS uses for communication also

needs to be added to this list.

Comments 1 If communication between client and server is still not working, thenyou can test whether the firewall settings are the problem by

temporarily turning off the firewall on your server and see if thatenables communication.

2 If you are still having trouble communicating with the ARSS, thenturn off User Account Control. This can be accessed in the UserAccounts section of Control Panels.

Troubleshooting Aspen Simulation

Workbook

When running Excel with Aspen Simulation Workbook, you may encounter the

following problems.

Problem After installing Aspen Simulation Workbook, the Simulation Workbooktoolbars do not appear in Excel 2003.

Cause You may have clicked the mouse on other objects while the system wastrying to establish a connection.

Solution In Excel, click View | Toolbars to see a list of the toolbars. Click theAspen Simulation Workbook Design and Aspen Simulation WorkbookRun toolbars to make them active. If the toolbars are not included inthe list, Excel may have disabled Aspen Simulation Workbook. Go to thenext item in this table.

Problem After installing Aspen Simulation Workbook, the Simulation WorkbookToolbars are not available in the toolbar list, and the Aspen menu doesnot appear on the Excel pull-down menu structure. Similarly, for Excel2007 and later, the Aspen ASW ribbon bar tab is not present.

Cause Excel may have disabled Aspen Simulation Workbook.

Solution To check:

For Excel 2003:

1 Open Excel.

2 Click Help | About Microsoft Excel.

3 Click Disabled Items. If Aspen Simulation Workbook appears inthe list of disabled items, remove it.

For Excel 2007:

1 Open Excel.

2 Click the Microsoft Office Button (round, large button located at topleft of Excel).

3 Select Excel Options.

4 Select Add-ins.

5 Select Manage: Disabled Addins; then click the Go button

6 If Aspen Simulation Workbook appears in the list of disabled items,

remove it.

V7.3\ASWXLAddinLoader.dll"

Aspen Simulation Workbook Add-in Manager.

3 If Aspen Simulation Workbook V7.3 is cleared in the AspenSimulation Workbook COM Add-in Selector, select it and click OK.

4 If Aspen Simulation Workbook V7.3 is selected, clear it and click OK;rerun the Aspen Simulation Workbook Add-in Manager and re-select Aspen Simulation Workbook V7.3




Troubleshooting Aspen Solubility Modeler

When launching Aspen Solubility Modeler, you may encounter the followingproblem.

Problem While launching Aspen Solubility Modeler, you get the error message"Compile error in hidden module: This Workbook."

Cause Aspen Properties V7.3 add-in is not registered.

The following terms and definitions are important for the installation,verification, configuration, modification, repair, and removal of Aspen

Engineering products.

Term Definition

DCOM (DistributedComponent Object Model)

DCOM is a Microsoft technology for distributedcomputing. It is an extension of Component ObjectModel (COM), which defines how components and theirclients interact. DCOM allows one client application toremotely start a DCOM server object on anothermachine and invoke its methods.

Documentation DVD The DVD that contains all documentation, help files,and so on for the aspenONE release.

OLE DB A specification for a set of data access interfacesdesigned to enable a multitude of data stores of alltypes and sizes to work together seamlessly. Theseinterfaces comprise an industry standard for dataaccess and manipulation that can ensure consistency

and interoperability in a heterogeneous environment of data and data types.

Role A grouping of logical users in order to ease themaintenance of assigning access rights. Control listsmay be assigned either to individual users, or to groupsto which users belong.

Role-Based Security Role-based security is used to authorize andauthenticate users of AspenTech applications and datasources. By assigning users to roles that define workactivities, administrators can grant security privileges tomembers of a given role instead of individual users.

Use Aspen Framework (AFW) Server or Aspen LocalSecurity (ALS) to establish roles and associate users

with them.Server installation Installs files on a central server machine.

SLM The Aspen Software License Manager

Standard installation Installs all files to the local hard drive of a computer.
