Keynote Speaker CHRISTIAN KRETTEK
Professor Christian Krettek is a leading expert for orthopaedic and trauma surgery.Professor Krettek’s research interests include minimally invasive surgery, computer navigation and robotics
simulation, molecular biology/tissue engineering and polytrauma. He holds a vision to create, expand
and integrate minimally invasive techniques. He also aims to expand, combine and integrate the use of
computer-assisted technologies like CAOS, endoscopy and robotics in orthopaedic trauma.
Since 2000, Prof Krettek has been head of the Orthopaedic Trauma Department of Hannover
Medical School (MHH), which was the first orthopedic trauma university hospital in Germany. The
Department has developed and established many therapies in orthopedic and trauma surgery,
which have become standard worldwide.
He previously held the position of Director of Trauma at The Alfred Hospital, Monash
University, in Melbourne.
Professor Krettek has been on the executive board of a number of national and
international orthopaedic and trauma societies including the Orthopaedic Trauma
Association (OTA), Medical Board of Deutsche Rettungsflugwacht (DRF) and
the Victorian State Trauma Foundation (Australia). He is also a member of the
American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the AO/ASIF and is
a founding member of the International Society for Computer Assisted
Orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS).
Furthermore, he is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College
of Surgeons (FRACS) and Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of
Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd).
Professor Krettek has been honored with numerous
international awards and is the author and co-author of more
than 400 publications. He is editor and associate editor of
many national and international journals and has been a
guest lecturer at many international universities.
Welcome to the Australasian Orthopaedic Trauma Society
2015 Annual Scientific Meeting
This is the first standalone Annual Scientific Meeting for the Australasian Orthopaedic
Trauma Society. Our Society’s distinguished guest will be Professor Christian Krettek from
Hannover, Germany. He will share with us his vast experience in major trauma management and limb salvage cases in situations with complete joint destruction.
The Friday afternoon and Saturday whole day scientific program will be supplemented by a Sunday morning workshop aiming to initiate and strengthen
multicentre collaboration among Australian orthopaedic trauma surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons interested in trauma and potentially open up our
collaborative network to the Asia-Pacific region.
The Scientific Program will aim to cover our core activities: clinical trauma care, education and research. We are planning to give a succinct but comprehensive
orthopaedic trauma update on clinical care, introduce the existing trauma fellowship models existing in Australia and an overview of our leading
clinical and basic science activities.
Hopefully our meeting will allow registrars to see the potential fulfilling career path in orthopaedic trauma, provide the
latest trends to all our members and guests in trauma care, strengthen the collaborative network
amongst our active members and involve interested new collaborators.
