• Contact Law Enforcement at the loss location and file a Police report. DO NOT LEAVE THE AREA until a report is taken. What should be in the loss report for assets?
• Assign the responsible person who has total accountability for the incident (Manager, Dispatcher, Investigator)
• Establish Communications (carrier, vendor, customer (internal/external))
• Is GPS available (Trailer/ Tractor/ Embedded)? Can you Ping the last known location (emergency mode)? Are GPS Jammers being used
• Is Electronic Toll Monitoring Available• Is there tractor/ trailer monitoring (Qualcomm or other
similar system)
Stage 2Within 1 Hour
• Ensure Law Enforcement enters the loss in NCIC. Don’t forget to add in the cargo commodity type and value
• Notify Cargo Theft Database Services for nationwide BOLO• Notify Cargo Theft Task Force Communication for Regional
BOLO• Notify Regional Security Councils for BOLO• Photographs of actual tractor and/ or trailer (Origination)• Non‐typical resources (Cab Company, Small Package Co.,
Uber/ Lyft)• Internal notifications. Make sure your boss knows…
Stage 3Within 3 hours
• Retrieve trailer release Media (Gatehouse logs, CCTV, Copies of all paperwork and driver info)
• Obtain Manifest/ BOL • Interview releasing party (Security, Dispatcher, Manager)
• Document Police report #• Decide on Investigative Method (including travel arrangements)
• Who is the Investigator (you, business partner, Insurance Company)
