Sarong firmly remains one of our favorites in Bali – it consistently delivers the most amaz-ing food in a wonderful atmosphere. Guests can choose between plush indoor setting of comfortable sofas and crystal chandeliers or a romantic garden setting – more private and secluded.Extensive menu features dishes from all over Asia and is divided into Starters, Salads, Cur-ries, Stir fries, Dishes from the Tandoori or front the Coconut Char Grill. Our favorites are Grilled Scallop with sweet crispy duck, Malay Prawn salad with green mango, Slow Cooked Octopus salad with green papaya, Wagyu Beef Pandang curry and so many others.

Cuca is a new kid on the block and another excellent find. It is located in Jimbaran Bay, an area of Bali with a multitude of hotels yet not many great restaurants to choose from.Tapas style dishes are made using only the best and the freshest local in-gredients. The dishes are designed to be shared, so get a group of friends together and come over to Cuca for a celebration of local flavors.

Sriwijaya Air and regional subsidiary Nam Air to ex-
pand in 2016, fighting off Ga-ruda and Lion
The Indonesian airline group Sriwijaya is planning further ex-pansion in 2016, with a focus on regional growth using its Nam Air subsidiary. Sriwijaya will take several additional Boeing 737-800s in 2016 en-abling it to transfer smaller 737-500s to Nam which will be used to open new secondary bases and compete against the ex-panding regional operations of Garuda and Lion.
Privately owned Sriwijaya has emerged as Indonesia’s third largest airline group, well be-hind Garuda and Lion but ahead of AirAsia. Surviving an extended period of consolida-tion and challenging market conditions has strengthened Sriwijaya, leading to a brighter outlook.

THAI LION ready to resume Jakarta after two year hia-
tus
Thai Lion believes that de-mand for Bangkok-Jakarta has sufficiently improved to support one daily flight. Thai Lion will mostly rely on sales in Indonesia, where it is able to leverage the strong distribu-tion network and brand of its parent Lion Air.
Lion Air has never served Thailand, although Bangkok is a popular destination for In-donesians. AirAsia is currently the only LCC group compet-ing on the Bangkok-Jakarta route and operates two daily A320 flights. Garuda is the market leader with three dai-ly flights using 737-800s, while Thai Airways currently oper-ates 10 weekly flights using a mix of A330s and A320s.

JETSTAR PACIFIC plans to expand its international destinations in 2016
Jetstar Pacific is currently evaluating potential new destinations in both Southeast and North Asia. As was the case with Hong Kong, the focus will be on existing Jetstar Group destina-tions. This is a sensible approach as it enables Jetstar Pacific to leverage the Jetstar Group, reducing the tradi-tional risk associated with launching new international routes, and it aids in Jetstar’s overall connect the dots net-work strategy.
Jetstar Pacific also has been evalu-ating Bali, a destination not currently served nonstop from Vietnam but with tremendous potential. Bali is already served by both Singapore-based Jet-star Asia and Australia-based Jetstar Airways, providing an opportunity for Jetstar Group to offer connections to Vietnam via Bali from eight Australian cities.
News Bulletin - Asia World Indonesia | April 2016 19
MALINDO may serve Brisbane and Melbourne via Bali
Malindo is also now planning to launch one-stop service to Brisbane and Mel-bourne in 2H2016 via Bali. It is not cur-rently considering Sydney.
Malindo already serves Bali with 13 weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur. Ma-lindo would be unable to serve Bris-bane and Melbourne nonstop with its current 737 fleet or the 737 MAX 9. A one-stop product is therefore its only option for the short to medium term unless it acquires widebody aircraft. Malindo has considered A330s but, at least for now, has decided to stick with an all narrowbody fleet.
If it launches services from Bali to Aus-tralia, Malindo will be able to leverage the network of its Indonesian sister Lion Air, which has a hub in Bali. However, Bali-Australia routes are extremely competitive, and it is predominantly a point-to-point inbound market.
Jetstar Airways and Virgin Australia currently serve Bali-Brisbane, while Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Garuda Indo-nesia and Indonesia AirAsia X already serve Bali-Melbourne.
(Virgin Australia is transferring its Bali-Melbourne service to its LCC subsid-iary Tigerair Australia in late Mar-2016.)

AYAM BETUTUChicken with Balinese Spices
Recipe Menu From :Marcel Barmettler
Ayam betutu is one of my all-time favorite dishes. It’s a surprisingly
easy recipe but really impressive to make for friends or at a dinner party – especially if you open the banana-leaf-wrapped chicken at the table. Because the vegetables are stuffed in-side the cavity of the chicken, there’s not much washing up either!
Here in Bali, ayam betutu (or it’s more upmarket cousin – bebek betutu) is a real treat. People often make it for special days or temple ceremonies. By wrapping the chicken in banana leaves, the moisture is kept in and the meat doesn’t dry out.
A chicken cooked with this recipe will serve about 6 people depending on how greedy they are!

TRIBAL PEOPLE OF INDONESIA
News Bulletin - Asia World Indonesia | April 201656
SPECIAL NEWS
The Bali Aga, Baliaga or Bali Mula are the indigenous people of Bali, predominantly
located in the eastern part of the island in the Karangasem district. They can also be found in north-western and central regions.
The original inhabitants of Bali are said to have come from Bedulu village long before the Hindu-Javanese immigration wave start-ed. The legend is that the last king of Pejeng (an old Balinese kingdom), Sri Aji Asura Bu-mibanten, had supernatural powers. He could cut off his head without feeling pain and put it back on again. One day, though, his head accidentally fell into a river and was swept away.
One of his servants panicked and decided to quickly decapitate a pig and replace the king’s head with the animal’s head. Embar-rassed, the king hid in a tall tower, denying any visitors. A small child discovered the se-cret and since then, the king became known as Dalem Bedulu, or He-who-changed-head. After the Pejeng kingdom, the Maj-apahit Empire rose to power in the early 16th century.
An important part of the Bali Aga culture is the complex tie-dye technique used to make Bali’s traditional geringsing or double ikat. Bali’s Tenganan village is the only village that today still produces these geringsings.
The Bali Aga
News Bulletin - Asia World Indonesia | April 2016 57
In geringsing, both the cotton warp and weft threads are carefully dyed and cross-dyed before weaving; the finished pattern only emerges as the cloth is woven. Accord-ing to textile expert John Guy, “the ances-try of Balinese geringsing is far from clear, although some cloths display the unmistak-able influence of patola”, the silk double ikats produced in Gujarat during the height of the Spice Trade (16-17C). Many of these imported cloths became inspiration for later locally-made textiles, but one theory is that the Balinese-made cloths were exported to India and copied there for production to Asian markets.
The Bali Aga, Baliaga or Bali Mula are the indigenous people of Bali, predominantly located in the eastern part of the island, in Karangasem. The Bali Aga speak their own dialect of the Balinese language. It dates back thousands of years and varies from village to village; the version spoken in the Tenganan village is different from the Trunyan village.
Many have unique Hindu motifs such as a bird’s eye view of a mandala with a sa-cred center from which everything radiates. Others feature designs clearly inspired by patola, for example a design known as the frangipani flower (jepun). The palette of ger-ingsingis is typically red, neutral and black. Geringsing are regarded as sacred cloths, “ascribed supernatural properties, especial-ly to assist in forms of healing. Gering means decease and sing means no.
