from UCLA. Her research has

ranged from the Neolithic period

to Tang dynasty mortuary prac-

tices. Since 2010, she has co-di-

rected the International Field

School of Archaeology at

Yangguanzhai in Shaanxi, China. Her current research

focuses on ethno-archaeological approaches, Neolithic

settlement patterns, and the relationship of settlement

patterns to specialized pottery production.

Day 1-2 | Xi’an

Arrive in Xi’an, check in to your hotel • Welcome reception

with Dr. Ye Wa and trip briefing with your local WildChina

guide • A curator led visit of the Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s

mausoleum and view the Terracotta Warriors • Step into

the Muslim Quarter and observe the sunset Salat prayers in

the city’s Great Mosque • Dinner with archeologists – Mr.

Zhang Zhongli and Mr. Jiao Nanfeng. They will discuss the

discovery of the Terracotta Warriors in 1974 and current

archaeological and conservation work

Day 3 | Xi’an

Drive about 1.5 hours to Yangguanzhai • Enjoy lunch with

the director of Yangguanzhai • Visit the Hangyang Tombs

Day 4 | Tianshui

Take the morning bullet train to Tianshui (2hrs) and then

drive (3.5hrs) to Maijishan • Visit the Maijishan Grottoes

• Check in to your hotel in Tianshui City and spend the

evening at your leisure

Day 5-6 | Lanzhou

Take the morning train to Lanzhou (1.5hrs), the capital

of Gansu Province • Visit the Gansu Museum • In the

evening, dine with a museum curator, together with

Dr. Ye Wa, and enjoy a themed sharing session titled:

“Monks and Merchants: Buddhist grottos along the Silk

Road” • Rise early and travel (2hrs’ drive and another

30mins’ speed boat ride) to Binglingsi • Travel back to

Lanzhou and rest at the hotel

Day 7-8 | Dunhuang

Explore the Mogao Grottoes • Enjoy behind-the-scenes

access with Dr. Ye Wa and Neil Schmid • Meet with the

Getty Museum team

Day 9-10 | Dunhuang

Rise early and drive about 2 hours out of the city to the

Yulin Caves • Drive to Suoyang • After getting back to the

hotel, visit the Mingsha Sand Dunes • Travel to Crescent

Moon Lake • Departure from Dunhuang
