    Ph.D., FCAOT.Mary is a professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMasterUniversity, Canada; holds the John and Margaret Lillie chair in Childhood DisabilityResearch; and is co-founder of CanChild Centre for Childhood Disability Research,a multidisciplinary research centre at McMaster University. Mary’s research centreson the development and validation of client-centred outcome measures, evaluation

    of occupational therapy interventions with children, the e ect of environmental factors on the participation ofchildren with disabilities in everyday occupations, and transfer of research knowledge into practice. She is the leadauthor of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). Mary is a Fellow of the Canadian Associationof Occupational Therapists and has been elected to the American Occ upational Therapy Foundation Academy ofResearch and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

    Lyle is programme director and founder of Life Skills Therapy Center in Tarlac City,Philippines, and programme coordinator for education for the World Federationof Occupational Therapists. His interests range from practice and research indevelopmental disabilities, sensory integration and policy development, torunning marathons.

    The Sato Lectureship award was established in honour of Professor Tsuyoshi Sato, a key instigator of the formation of theAsia Paci c occupational therapy regional group (APOTRG) and the Asia Paci c Occupational Therapy Congress (APOTC).The award aims to stimulate interest in the development and advancement of occupational therapy, particularly in theAsia-Paci c region; and to inspire members of the profession through the sharing of knowledge and experience in research,education and the practice of occupational therapy. Dr Lyle Duque is the 3rd recipient of the award since its inception.

    Samson is the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Education) at the Faculty of SocialSciences and the Director of the Master of Social Sciences in Counselling at theDepartment of Social Work and Social Administration at the University of Hong Kong.Prior to his relocation to Hong Kong, Samson worked in New Zealand for 20 years.He has had a long standing interest in supporting persons individually or “doing wellcollectively” a ected by bipolar disorder and gambling addiction by using recoveryapproach and strengths-based interventions.

    “Doing well together” such as working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams is a hallmark of Samson’s work.He has authored/co-authored over 110 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the eld of mental health.Between 2000 - 2006, he was appointed as editor-in-charge of the New Zealand Journal of Occupational Therapy.Samson holds honorary/ visiting professorial positions at Yale University, University of Melbourne and Universityof Auckland.

    Senior lecturer, department of occupational science and therapy at Auckland Universi-ty of Technology (AUT); director of the National Centre of Interprofessional Educationand Collaborative Practice; chairperson of Unitec research ethics committee. Kirk washead of department of occupational science and therapy at AUT from 2006 - 2014.His achievements during that time include completing his doctoral thesis exploringthe meaning of occupation, and leading research into embedding an occupationalperspective in practice. His future contributions to knowledge development will focus

    on occupational therapy in mental health and primary health care.

    ABOUT THE FRANCES RUTHERFORD LECTURE AWARDIn 1983 the Frances Rutherford Lecture Award was created to honour Frances Rutherford, principal of the occupationaltherapy school 1959-1972 and rst quali ed occupational therapy teacher in Aotearoa New Zealand. The purpose ofthis prestigious award is to encourage occupational therapists in their professional careers and to give recognition tothose who have made a signi cant contribution in their specialist eld of occupational therapy. Kirk is the 15th FrancesRutherford Lecture award recipient since its inception.
