This session will give opportunity to the local leaders to share their strategy, achievement and challenges to enabling people to obtain good basic services, facilities and amenities, and in which everyone enjoys freedom from any discrimination. Moreover, This session will discuss developing societies that make efficient use of resources within the carrying capacity of ecosystems and by providing all people with equal opportunities for a healthy, safe, and productive life in harmony with nature and their cultural heritage and spiritual and cultural values, and a life which ensures economic and social development and environmental protection. Good governance promotes equity, participation, pluralism, transparency, efficient and the rule of law. The greatest threats to good governance come from corruption, violence and poverty. This session will present the best practices and experience of local governments in the implementation of good governance system with the focus on the New Urban Agenda.

16.15-17.15 “Low Carbon Society” This session will discuss and elaborate the policies and scenario for developing a Low-Carbon Society. Low-carbon society is the new revolutionary development paradigm that sustains economic growth while at the same time ensuring climatic and environmental sustainability. All the world’s countries need to unite to make efforts to establish a low-carbon society by “reducing global emissions by half from the current level by 2050.” The speakers of this session will highlight the following selected issues: Transportation, Waste Management and Renewable Energy. Cities, which are at the forefront of global socio-economic change, are acknowledged playing a key role in sustainable development. Bear in mind that half of the world’s population now lives in urban areas, it is an urgent need to promote urban sustainability and to assure the decision and policy making by cities are intended towards sustainable urban development. The session will provide significant information and insight how cities enhancing their role in sustainable urban development and committed to implement and actively promote urban sustainability.
