Introduction Dengue has emerged as a worldwide problem since the 1950s. About half of the world's population is at risk of this mosquito-borne disease. Dengue is found in tropical and sub-tropical climates areas, with cases reported in more than 150 countries. Dengue patients show non-specific febrile syndrome in
early stage which may delay early diagnosis. Although not all dengue Infections result in illness, some dengue patients may progress to life-threatening haemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome. Today, we are facing huge challenges in managing dengue associated complications which can lead to hospitalizations· and/or deaths.
In view of these challenges and with the support from the Ministry of Health Malaysia, the Malaysian Society of Infectious Diseases & Chemotherapy (MSIDC), Tropical Infectious Diseases Research &
Education Centre (TIDREC), Aesculap Academy and WHO Collaborating Centre (WHDCC) for Arbovirus Reference & Research have taken the initiative to provide a platform to address various pertinent issues on the challenges, diagnosis, treatment and best practices in managing this growing menace in the region.
Drawing expertise from more than twenty international, ASEAN and local speakers, the scientific committee has put together a comprehensive programme which features seven (7) plenary sessions and eleven (11) concurrent symposia, covering topics such as:
Clinical Predictors of Severe Dengue Dengue Vaccination : Current landscape in Asia Innovative strategies & tools for dengue surveillance & control Dengue detection tools Viral Tropism and pathogenesis Updates on Pathophysiology of Dengue Infection Challenges and Strategies to Decrease Dengue Morbidity & Mortality Sharing of Experience from various countries in ASEAN on Monitoring In Severe Dengue, Advances in Lab Diagnosis for Dengue, Fluid Management in Dengue, Best Practices in Vector Control, Dengue in Special Groups, and many more.

Pre-Conference Workshop on Dengue Molecular Detection
Date Venue
21 - 22 April 2016 Surveillance Laboratory, TIDREC Department of Medical Microbiology, University Malaya
In this two-day pre-conference workshop, participants will be exposed to the molecular techniques employed for the detection of dengue viruses from clinical or research materials. This workshop is targeted to academics, researchers, laboratory personnel and students interested in the laboratory detection, diagnosis and surveillance of dengue.
The workshop incorp.orates lectures, hands-on practical sessions and discussions on up-to-date techniques of the conventional and most recently developed technologies for detecting and serotyping of dengue viruses, including quantitative RT-PCR and the Recombinant Polymerase Amplification (RPA).
This workshop is limited to 20 places only. Due to limited places, registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.
