Volunteer Work at a Local Hospital

I volunteered at a local hospital for my community service project. I helped the nursing staff with various patient care duties such as getting bedding, towels and supplies. I also assisted with transporting patients to procedures or treatments. I learned that helping patients with bed changes, baths and activities can sometime be difficult but at the end of the day you know that you have done something good so it is very rewarding as well.

Volunteer Work at a Local HospitalI also helped the nursing staff with getting blood pressures, temperatures and other medical information from the patients. When I was not actually in the patient rooms, I helped answer phones and performed clerical work for the staff. When getting medical information from the patients I learned that a patient’s health status can change quickly and it can be recognized by subtle changes in blood pressure, etc. I also learned that helping the staff with clerical work enabled them to be more in the patient rooms and that was best for the patients. Overall it was a good experience.
