WHAT?

Joan McCarthy 2011 Acadiana Race for the Cure chairperson, said she got involved with the charity after being diagnosed

with breast cancer WHY?

“Just about everybody has

been touched by breast cancer and knows somebody that has had the disease. "People

come out to support those with it and honor those who have not won

the battle."

HOW?McCarthy said the registration fees — which ranged from $20 to $30 — fund local efforts to battle breast cancer. She said 75 percent of the funds will stay in the six Acadiana parishes her group serves to provide screenings, treatment and education grants. The other 25 percent goes to national research.McCarthy said planning for next year's event start in May, and volunteers wanting to be involved can contact the organization directly to donate time and effort. The event is a great cause that allows young and old survivors alike to connect and share experiences.
