At Ashland, we want you to perform your best, both on and off the field. We encourage our athletes take academics just as seriously as they do playing time.

• In the last three semesters, Ashland University student-athletes have averaged a 3.0 GPA or above.

• In the history of the University, the Eagles have won 196 All-GLIAC Academic Awards

• Ashland boasts 9 GLIAC Commissioner’s Awards for academics since 2007

Ashland University is annually recognized for having one of the best all-around athletic departments in the country. We consistently finish in the Top 10 of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup rankings (the national all-sports ranking), and our teams have produced numerous All-Americans and national champions in nearly every sport. But don’t take our word for it; the numbers speak for themselves.

• Ranked 7th in the 2009-10 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup (the top ranked private school and our third straight year in the top ten)

• 800+ All-Americans in the history of the University

• 27 teams have competed in the NCAA National Tournament in the last two years alone

• 51 GLIAC or NCAA Regional Championships have been won by Ashland teams in the last 12 years

DWIGHT SCHAR ATHLETIC COMPLEX• 5,200-seat Jack Miller Stadium with synthetic

turf on Martinelli Field (4,500 seats in the Dean Freytag Home Stands)

• 500-seat soccer, track and field stadium with synthetic turf on Ferguson Soccer Field

• Robert Troop Center houses locker rooms, offices, weight room, athletic training space, entertainment area and student-athlete study lounge

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CENTER• Houses the Athletic Department offices, including

many coaches offices• 3,000-seat Kates Gymnasium is the home of

our basketball, volleyball and wrestling teams• Connected to Conard Field House and

ESPNSwimmer Sean McGraw was named an ESPN the Magazine first team Academic All-America and received a NCAA postgraduate scholarship. McGraw’s physics and math studies earned him a 3.93 GPA.

Athletic Director Bill Goldring says, “I think Ashland’s placing in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Top 10 is a tribute to our coaches. We have the right people recruiting the right people.”

Very few private institutions can boast the caliber of coaching staff we have at Ashland University. A number of our coaches have been named

“coach of the year,” and some of them are even U.S. Olympians.

Cheering Squads AU Eagle Cheerleaders are the official energy-raisers for Eagle athletes and fans. Our varsity squad cheers at all home football games and men’s home basketball games, and the junior varsity squad cheers at all home football games and women’s home basketball games.

Eagle Elite Dance Team This all-female team entertains the crowds at various Eagle home games with a variety of jazz, hip-hop and pom dances.

Tuffy’s Troops This student-run organization is dedicated to promoting school spirit and attendance at all Ashland athletic events, and having fun!

The Eagler Club Our official boosters, the Eaglers provide support for all intercollegiate sports, and recognize those individuals who contribute time and money to assist the University in maintaining the growth and quality of the athletic department.
