My Word by Bill Busby club President Busby WELL, Another season and our first home game against our friends, Shamrock Rovers. We welcome Shamrocks President Mick Manning to Ashfield Reserve, We never have easy games against Shamrock, and we note that the game is close to the 100 year anniversary of the Easter uprising. We look forward to to-days games, and invite Mick and all his committee, Coaches/players and sup-porters to a refreshment or two in the club during and after the game. We can review the games and the decisions both good and otherwise, in the ambience of the clubrooms. We are proud to advise that Ashfield Sports Club is the home of the Perth Glory NPL sides so every week we have Saturday football. For all to enjoy locally, so come and spot the future Glory stars as they develop at Ashfield. Last week's games against Western Knights produced goals aplenty the18,s won 12-0, Reserves won 6-3 and Firsts drew 2 all, 25 goals worth of action last week. Volunteers are scarce and with less than 5 regulars holding every-thing together at the club, we would be grateful for any extra assistance, if you can assist in any way, that would be awesome, and much appreciated. Bill.

Our team of professional and qualified personnel have a solid reputation of high quality standards which we value highly. Today our team members travel all over Australia and the world, going to countries such as India, Vietnam and Egypt. Reserves coached by Barry Richards

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentleman and welcome to our first home game of the season against Shamrock Rovers From my point of view, we have made a good start to the season with a win over a well organised Western Knights. Our preparation pre-season was good and gives us a solid platform to go on and be competitive in all games. My aspiration for this season is to ensure that it is difficult for our opponents to beat us whilst still playing attractive football. I will also be nurturing talent from our 18’s and our goal is to progress them through to the first team. I will encourage all my players who consistently give good performances to push for a place in the first team I will do my best to prepare them to progress. Jamie and I welcome the opportunity to push on this season. If we are consistent with our endeavour and our approach to games who knows what this season will bring and we are looking forward to what is ahead as it unfolds. I thank you for the support we have received in our games to date and take this opportunity for your ongoing support. Barry

With Ross Diamond

Our intrepid reporter spent 10 minutes with new Signing Ross Diamond to ask some hard hitting inci-sive questions to bring the best out of Ross, unfortu-nately his dog eat the interview notes and what you have left is a work of fiction that may somehow not even loosely resemble the truth.

Ross is a Middlesbrough boy through and through, he misspent his youth kick-ing a woollen monkeys head on the cobbled streets of Borro and despite little or no real coaching he found he was pretty good at it, his boyhood dreams came true and he signed apprenticeship papers with Birmingham City? Our Ross spent a happy four years at Birmingham but when they discovered he wasn’t a proper Brum they cut him from the squad. (sound familiar Baz?) Not disheartened by this Ross signed with Vauxhall conference club Hereford, probably because they had a really good program for the depressed. A boy can only take so much rain, grey clouds, flat caps and Bovril So Ross sought out a sea change in Perth WA. From what he tells me Ross has played with just about all of the NPL clubs most recently Cockburn and Balcatta. During the off season he bumped into Paul who then drugged Ross and forced him to sign for Ashfield, Ross clutching the Diamond encrusted collar from his missing Labradoodle Mitzi, said he wants to stay as long as it takes to get his dog back, I mean win the League or at least until Paul's Rohypnol supply dries up. Like most of us Ross has a few flaws, all I can say if given the choice between two vices go with the one you haven't tried yet! Lust Ross wishes he had some pace, overrated if you can read a game Rosco Gluttony Ladies he is a simple man with simple tastes a good hon- est Spaghetti Bolognaise is the way to his heart. Greed, Football, can’t get enough, particularly his beloved Boro Sloth, Game of Thrones, all day marathons, phone off curtains drawn, Q. How many Starks does it take to change a light globe? 9, one to get married, one or two to get executed, one to marry a dwarf, one to dress like a boy , and the rest horribly massacred at a wedding. Wrath, Ross hates Simulation or as I prefer to call it CHEATING!!!! Envy, Ross’s Idol and player he would most like to be is the great man himself Roy Keane, Now I have seen Ross get stuck in and to be honest your not far off mate. Pride, Having played in the team that won the Northern Conference cup whilst at Hereford

Paul Dundo - from the Technical area Welcome to the Season 2016 and to our first Home game of the year. It’s a new year and there are some new faces around the Club, so a warm welcome to all new Players, Coaching Staff and also to all the returning Ashy faithful. I would like to also welcome Shamrock Rovers three teams to Ashfield today. Over the recent years our encounters have always been challenging and very competitive games through all grades and today I expect no difference. The 2016 First Division has 12 teams capable of beating anyone on their day and has strengthened. It is the hardest Football West League to win, especially with Promotion to the NPL in 2017 up for grabs.

Mark Humphrey’s will lead our Under 18s Assisted by Robbie Kelly once again this season and has a very talented squad. Following the boys Pre Seasons results and an emphatic 12 – Nil win against Knights last week, our Under 18’s are looking forward to good season. They are playing a professional and at-tractive style of football. Let’s hope you keep up the hard work and the good results coming.

This Season sees Barry Richards return to Ashfield as Reserve Coach. Barry will be assisted by Jamie Halliday and I am looking forward to working with both Coaches this Season, as they prepare our young Reserve side for First Team Football. The Reserves run out 6 - 3 winners last week, Well done lads.

After another Season finishing in 2nd place, our First Team are aiming to go one better this season. This season sees Jay Lang appointed Captain, with Vice Captain Graham Tough, to be his Sargent at Arms. We have recruited some quality players into the squad this Season, which will add to the competi-tion for places in all positions, however I remind all First team players that we are a “SQUAD” and it takes a good squad of 20 Players to achieve our goals. It is pleasing to see the squad starting to gel nicely, with some great results in the FFA Cup earning us a Round 5 home game against Balcatta on ANZAC Day, Monday 25th April. I encourage all Youth Players, Club Members / Supporters to fill our little stand Red and support the boys.

Last week we fought out a hard 2-2 draw with Western Knights, a fair result in my eyes, as we only started to play to our ability in the 2nd half. Today’s game should prove to be another tough encounter so we will need to ensure we play for both halves! ;) Good Luck to all Three Ashfield teams today and I hope to see you all in the bar after the game.

I will leave you all with a quote from the great Footballer, Mr Johan Cruyff, who sadly passed away last month. RIP #14.

“Playing football is very simple, but playing simple foot-ball is the hardest thing there is”

Let the Football begin! Cheers, Dundo

Ashfield East Perth Amateurs Notes from the Gaffer After last season’s success in Division 4, the club hasn’t rested on its laurels and has been active recruiting new players for Division 3. We are in a very fortu-nate position in the sense that our record and a winning mentally naturally at-tracts players. The coaching team decided with our recruiting this season play-ers would have to meet a set criteria to be able to sign. We also had also identi-fied key targets and I’m pleased to announce that we managed to secure most. We recently participated in the Amateur night series during the pre-season with great success, we eventually lost in the semi-final against a very strong Kingsley team but can be proud having knocked out 3 premier teams to reach the semi finals and hope to build on this in the cup. Our first Division three fixture was last weekend (5th April) against a strong and organised Ahly FC. The reserves were unlucky not to take the 3 points but took points and started their campaign with a 0-0 draw. The first team came from behind to record a 2-1 victory and start their challenge for a third consecutive league title with 3 points. This weekend we travel to Canning for what looks to be a difficult game after they recorded a comprehensive 4-0 win over Brooklands last weekend. Jon. Editors note: John and the boys have had two successive promotions since they started in Division five with Ashfield. As they were last year East Perth are the pundits favourites for promotion and with the start they have had in the cup and the first day of the season it appears they are living up to the expectation. We are proud of our association with East Perth and wish them the best of luck in their hunt for another title. Please come and cheer them on at home games.

Liberties FC, this season is represented by a Vets side in the Over 45s league. Such has been the interest in this league (Editors note: a league instigated by Ashfield) that Football West have had to run two leagues this season. Liberties FC Vets commenced this season with a hard fought victory 3 - 2 over Wembley Downs away in Round 1. In Round 2 this coming Sunday 17th April sees Liberties take on Shoalwater FC who themselves had a very impressive 7 - 1 home victory over Subiaco in Round 1 match. Liberties FC Vets are coached by John Keogh who is also the Club President. This year the squad consists of a number of players who won this league two seasons ago playing for Inglewood FC including Dave O'Brien, Massmio Cau, Declan Kelly, Riccardo Berti, Ian Glover, John Paroci and Kevin O'Neill with the last two and Declan being former Ashy vets . Other players include ex Perth Glory CEO Jason Brewer and former Spearwood State League Player Dennis Milenkovic. Liberties FC Vets were delighted to secure the support of Ashfield SC and play all our home games at this fine venue. Liberties kick off all home games at 11am at Ashfield, new players are most welcome to join, we train on Wednesdays from 6.30. With this squad of players we are expecting that Liberties FC Vets will be a top 4 side in our first season which would be a sensation start in our inaugural season. Declan

Football funnies Why do the media always tell us that football hooligans aren’t real fans of the game? I support West Ham and love going to see them play as often as possi-ble. Just because I like to attack random passengers and hurl bottles and seats at visiting fans doesn't mean I enjoy the beautiful game any the less.

Adam Johnson has completed his free transfer from Sunderland to HMP Dur-ham on a six year contract. Johnson stated he would have been happy with anything under 16yrs and was glad he had avoided a 3 year deal at Aston Villa.

On the way home from the Knights game I heard Aussie rules commentator Tania Armstrong make this comment after the AFL’s shameless attempt to copy our code of football by introducing a women's League. “It was a great game be-tween the Eagles and Dockers ladies, lots of tackles, lots of goals and some big hits, several women left the ground bleeding a fantastic advert for WA Football” Boguns !!! spent most of the rest of the trip home laughing my head off.

Look-alikes

2015/2016 will always be remembered as the year Central Coast mariners had more sauce bottles than wins.

Worse than us! In the UK Heybridge Gardens FC under 18’s needed the loan of a a keeper for 45 minutes. Apparently the boundary restrictions on the young fellas home detention bracelet would only work on one half of the pitch.

The Caltex Socceroos have a new song “I’m forever sniffing petrol”.
