Wednesday 31st AugustWednesday 31st AugustWednesday 31st AugustWednesday 31st AugustSchool Review Day.

    Friday 23rd SeptemberFriday 23rd SeptemberFriday 23rd SeptemberFriday 23rd SeptemberLast Day Term 3.

When things goWhen things goWhen things goWhen things gowrong...wrong...wrong...wrong...

Working in the office whilstMrs. Omachen has been away

has reminded me of a story Iheard of a philosopher fromancient Greece who came tothe conclusion, after a lifetimeof pondering the mysteries oflife, that Things go wrong. Itwas as simple as that...Regardless of how meticulously

you plan and whatever careyou take, something will, inevitably, go wrong.

And, at Ashby, the office iswhere, inevitably andeventually, all problems endup. When something breaks, when someone is sick, whenbehaviour is less thanacceptable, when things gowrong and all else fails, you goto the office...

This is not to say that things inthe office are constant chaosin fact the opposite is true! Iam constantly impressed byhow successfully Ms. Sweeney

juggles the myriad of tasks thatcome her way and I marvel ather ability to put her hand onwhatever document or piece ofinformation is required at the

drop of a hat... so rest assuredthat Ashby is in good hands!

It does make me realise, however, that problems havesolutions. Yes, things gowrong, but with a positiveattitude and some hard workmost problems can be happilyand successfully solved.

Every day our talented stafffind solutions for theunsolvable and discover

possibilities within theimpossible. Our work with

your children is, as much asanything else, about teachingthem how to deal with those

inevitable problems and how tofix up anything that has beenmucked up.

Yes, things go wrong, butthings go right too... keep a

positive mindset and deal withthe issues systematically and

you will be amazed at theresults you can achieve!

We welcome Mrs. Omachenback from her leave nextMonday and I will be headingback to my wonderful grade. Many thanks to the staff and

parents whose support hasmade my time in the officesuch a pleasure and specialthanks to Mrs. Trupkovic forher fantastic work in 2/3D!

The veggie garden at Ashby isprogressing well, and all parentsare invited to have a look at whatthe students and Trish have beendoing (and pick a few weedswhile you are there!).

Snow peas have started to crawlup the trellis, potatoes have beensown and the garlic is growingwell, The students have weededaround the garlic and have alsocleared well around the apple

    trees.

Students have also been addingfood scraps, prunings and weedsto the compost and then aeratingit - turning it over so that itreceives oxygen and breaks downmore quickly. They are learningthe importance of adding compostto the soil to improve it so that thevegetables grow better.

Students and staff have found itreally convenient to have closeaccess to the tools and equipmentby having them relocated to thenew garden shed directly next tothe veggie garden. Many thanksto Mr Holloway and Julie formoving these items from thedungeon and for arranging themneatly in the shed.

    Special thanks to the enthusiastic

lunchtime gardening crew whohave enthusiastically helped withlots of gardening projects.

Produce from the gardencontinues to be used in cookingclasses. A recent yummyfavourite is frittata withsilverbeet.
