    0 Introduction

    Dear Madams, Dear Sirs,

we would like to introduce ourselves as manufaturers of anchoring mate-

rials for use in the fields of plant engineering, surface and civil engineering

as well as in structural steel and hydraulic engineering.

Anton Schmoll GmbH was founded after the first world war, and conduc-

ted its business initially by doing wage work for the local industry. Over the

years the materials and rolling stock increased steadily, creating the basis

for setting up an independent factory of our own. This eventually lead to

space problems which were solved in 1978 when our subsidiary plant wasestablished in the nearby town of Balve-Garbeck. In the same year Anton

Schmoll GmbH was registered as a limited company. In the meantime the Anton Schmoll GmbH production and storage facilities total a

covered area of 6.000 , with a clear tendency towards expansion.

    The materials predominantly used at our works are S 355 J2G3 (St 52.3), 42 CrMo 4, 34CrNiMo 6,

    1.4301 and 1.4571, covering qualities 4.6, 5.6, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9, A2 and A4 to the greatest possible extent.

The range of materials is rounded off with BST500S concrete reinforcing steel, S460N fine-grained steel,

high temperature steel 21CrMoV57 and also our steel ASF 600. An extensive stock of all these materials,

with rod lengths up to 20 m, ensures short delivery times. The maximum possible single length is 27m.

    Forged parts ranging from M 8 - M 150 - 3/8" to 6"- are no problem for our forgingshop.

We are also competent in producing bolts and screws (also with upset threads) with

rolled threads to any required length and with diameters up to M 150, or 6". Our technical staff will be pleased to advice you on the

advantages of this highly efficient alternative as against upset rod anchorages. Cut threads are available with diameters up to M 180. And

of course we also carry out all kinds of drilling, cutting, welding and lathe work.

Most of our products are certified according to -Sign (conformity sign). We have the qualification of manufacturers for the welding of steelstructures according to DIN18800-7 and DIN19704, DIN 18801, DIN 4132. Our company is accredited according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000.

High standards of quality, keen prices and adherence to agreed delivery dates are only some of the characteristics for which AntonSchmoll GmbH is well known.

For hydraulic engineering we deliver displacement-injected piles, injection piles and also an extensive program for joining technique andaccessories.Basically:- tie rods and connection parts- waling and waling bolts- capping profiles- bollards and ladders- customised welded constructions

Our technical catalogue is intended to give you an overal impression of our production programme.Naturally enough, it does not contain our complete range of products and shows only the most frequently used articles and main product lines. Please contact us if the product you require is not included in our catalogue.

If static and structural conditionsrequire the anchoring of a pile wall, this is achieved by mutual support, for example with channelexcavations. In most cases, however, piles need to beadditionally tied back.

The anchorage constructionsare chosen and constructedaccording to static and structuralrequirements. Reaction force A,resulting from static calculations of thepile wall, as well as the low skiddingjoint analysis are decisive fordimensioning.

Waling diverts forces from thesheet pile to the anchorage, andsimultaneously aligns and stiffensthe construction. The anchoragediverts the reaction force of the pilethrough the waling to the anchoragebody.

The anchorage body, again, divert such forces from the main pileto the soil. An anchor wall forms theanchorage body for a round steelanchorage.

If the construction is embeddedthrough anchor piles, e.g. steelbearing piles, injected bearing piles, forces from the pile are diverted tothe soil through pile skin friction.

1.1 Dimensioning of theanchorage parts (E 20 of the EAU1990)

Anchor piles, waling, beamsand support plate:

Bearing capacity analysis is tobe carried out according to DIN18800 or DIN V ENV 1993-5, ifstress is mainly consistent. In caseof waling and beams, the

requirements for an increase of thepartial safety coefficients accordingto E 30 must be considered.

Alternating stress requires thefatigue strength analysis accordingto DIN 19704-1. We would also liketo stress the importance of DIN18800, Part 1.

In general, dead steelaccording to DIN EN 10025 mustbe used.

Fitting bolts, with min. 4.6 tensilestrength, are to be used for threadedwaling and beam splices. Thefatigue strength analysis is to becarried out according to DIN 18800,Part 1.

    Tie-rods and waling bolts:

Anchorages are mainly subject tostatic load. Strong fluctuating stressis rare in anchorages, but

nevertheless occurs often in walingbolts. Tie-rods and waling bolts mustbe made of steel types according toDIN EN 10025. The steel type S355 J2G3 is the most commonlyused steel. In general, dimensioningfor constructions with mainly staticload are based on the anchoringforces which result from loads accor-ding loading case 2. Bearing capa-city analysis is to be carried out accor-ding to DIN 18800, part 1, para-graph 8.2.2.3. The reducing coef-ficients for the loading cases 1 to3, must be observed.

DIN 4125 applies for theconstruction and dimensioning ofanchorage by means of groutanchors. Only completely deadsteel types are to be used inconstruction with fluctuating loads. The bearing capacity analysis is tobe carried out according to DIN18800, part l, paragraph 8.2.1.5. Ifthe static base load is less or equalto the alternating load, controlledand permanent stressing ofanchorage and/or waling boltsabove the stress amplitude is

    Exvacation revetting

    2.1 Tie-rod anchorageTie-rod anchorage represents the

most economical way of anchoringsheet piles.

Normally, forces are diverted tothe anchor plates. In order to installconcrete anchor plates, it isnecessary to excavate the concreteplate up to its bottom edge. If,however, sheet pile plates orcontinuous anchor walls, made

from sheet piles, are to be used,it is sufficient to excavate upto anchor level.

In general, tie-rod anchors areinstalled horizontally or only slightlyslanted, as major earthmovingwould otherwise become necessaryfor the connection to the anchorbody due to the low position of theanchor wall.

The necessary length of the tie-rodanchors results from the lowskidding joint. The depth of theanchor wall is determined bytesting the soils break safety infront of such wall.

    2.1.1 Anchorage parts

Anchor rods should, for structuralreasons, not be thinner than 11/2. Itproved efficient to upset the thread inorder to prevent fatigue in this area.Such action allows optimal benefitfrom the permitted tensions withinthe thread core and the thinneranchor shaft.

Rolled threads do not requireupsetting as rolling of the anchorsresult in a thread outside diameterwhich is higher than the shaftdiameter. The use of rolled threads, instead of upset cut threads, offernumerous advantages such as highertensile strength and profile precisionand no interruptions of the steel fibrestructure (dynamic stress capacity),see also EAU 2004.As there are different and longerthreads, it is often not necessary touse an additional turnbuckle.

The Whitworth thread, which isstill common, proved as best suitablein stress tests as well as under roughconditions on site. Nevertheless, metric threads are also used.

Dead steel types, accordingto DIN EN 10025, must be used. They are resistant to ageing, brittlefractures and stress cracks. Thisincludes the steel types S 235 JR(formerly: St 37-2) and S 355 J2G3 (formerly: St 52-3). For eco-nomical and safety reasons, it iscommon to use steel of the hig-her S355 J2G3 grade.

Tables 1-3 show the commonsizes of tie-rod anchors.

Apart from common tie-rodanchorage with double-thread, it ispossible to use anchors with upsethinge ring or hammerhead anchorsfor special connections.

Turnbuckles are attached totie-rod anchors if there are no end

parts which allow stretching, e.g. with

a ring anchor, or if the constructioncannot be carried out at once.

Tie-rod anchors are usuallysold in two partial lengths. It isrecommended to fasten theturnbuckles closely behind the mainwall. Thus, the anchor wall can besupported through setting on theground. This, furthermore, allowseasy connection during futurereconstruction.

The turnbuckles comprise oneleft hand thread as well as one righthand thread to tighten and balancethe entire anchor length.

The rear anchor rod length isrestricted to 20m for reasons oftransport and installation. In order toobtain longer components, singlerods may be connected by meansof movable couplings. Theycomprise a continuous RH thread

and, thus, cannot be used fortightening.

Supple and tensionable anchorrod connections can be constructedby means of turnbuckle hinges.Shackle joints may be used in specialconnections, or in case of expectedsettlement.Constructions comprising upset ringanchors, splice plates and hingebolts should be preferred over

hammerhead constructions, whenregarding hinge effect and assembly.Double hinges are indicated forconstructions with vertical as well ashorizontal movement.

Anchor connection to themain wall can be carried out inthe sheet pile recess, either at thepile front or at the back wale(tension waling). The distance ofthe anchor will then be determined bythe pile spacing.

There are two different types ofbase plates: front plates at the main

wall for U-piles, or Z-piles and platesfor connecting the waling to the mainor anchor wall, with or withoutadditional coupling plate/rolled nut.The front plates at the main wall shouldusually cover 80% of the width of thepile recess in order to enhance thediversion of loads.Anchorage gradients may beadditionally adjusted to the base plateby means of a tapered plate.

In order to prevent bendingstress within the thread connectionsdue to expected settlements, theanchor connection should verticallybe supple and freely moving. Thecommonly used joint in such casesis a coupling plate or a semi-rollercoupling plate.

The coupling plate comprises ananchor rod which revolves around astem. At moment exposure, stressoccurs at the yield point, whichallows angle distortion withoutsignificant resistance. In case ofroller coupling plates, the distortion isrealised by means of a semi-rollerwelded onto the plate. If,furthermore, horizontal movement isexpected, either two staggered

hinges may be positioned in a row,or a universal joint plate may beused.

The coupling effect is alsoachieved with an anchor rod withrounded hammerhead.

For sections with low walls, acoupling plate with thread may beused (rolled nut) in order to savenut height.

    Adjustable connection with uni-versal joint

If the anchor rod is considerablyinclined, or if major settlement ordistortion is expected; it isrecommended to position the anchorconnection in the pile recess butbelow the chord. This allows aminimum wale spreading.

If it is necessary to create ananchor spacing, which isindependent of pile spacing, anchorconnection is only possible within the

    waling.

Different structures may beconstructed according to theappropriate requirements.

The connection to a combinedpiping pile is commonly carried outthrough external splice plates whichare inserted through the pipe topopening.

The connection to the anchorwall is realised at the externalwaling (compression waling). Asingle connection with base plate iscommon. A supple connection may benecessary when the anchor rod is

embedded in its full length into therefilled soil and settlement might occur.

    2.2 Injection piles

Horizontal tie-rod anchorage usuallyrepresents more inexpensiveanchorage procedures. If, however, horizontal rods cannot beembedded due to differingconditions, such as closedevelopments or unsuitable ground, anchor piles may be used. Here, anchor forces are diverted throughskin friction between pile and

ground. The diversion of tensileforces into the ground depends onnumerous factors. It is especiallysubject to the soil conditions and theshape of the pile. Unlike tie-rodinstallation, the embedding of

anchor piles does not require earthmovement. A supple connectionshould be preferred to the built-inhinge in order to compensatedistortions within the connection areaof the sheet pile/anchor pile caused bybending, settlement and installationconditions, see also EAU 2004.

There are generally two types ofanchor piles:

    - driven steel piles and- injected steel piles.

The injection pile can be producedby us up to a single length of 27 m.Depending on quality, it can be

extended to any length by a weldedjoint or a nut joint. Depending onperformance, stretch limitation valuesof at least 355 to at least 600 N/mm2can be guaranteed. Furthermore, allwall connections like upset threads, eye or T-head are possible. Useaccording to DIN 4125 / DIN 4128 ismathematically possible. The injectionpile has already been implementedsuccessfully for ARGE Logport inRheinhausen, Port Walsum in

Duisburg, Kaje Neuer Hafen inBremerhaven, Port HKM in Duisburgand Port Ludwigshafen.

    3.1 Waling in general

    3.1 General

The waling diverts forces fromthe sheet pile to the anchorage andstiffens as well as aligns theconstruction. In general, tensionwalings are positioned on the insideof the main wall, whereas they areusually attached as compressionwales behind the wall in case ofanchor walls.

EAU 2004 recommends the solidconstruction as well as generousdimensioning the waling andpreferring heavy waling made fromS 235 JR (formerly St 37-2) over thelighter types from S 355 J2G3 (for-merly St 52-3).

Load-bearing welding seamsmust be 2mm thicker than staticallynecessary due to risk of rusting.

It is recommended to dimensionthe wales according to the allowedanchor force of the chosen anchor.Apart from horizontal load due toanchor tension, rope tension andforces caused by traffic, the waling isalso subject to vertical stress causedby anchor vertical load, soil load andits own weight. There may also behorizontal axial loads along thesheet pile axis due to, for example, rope tension.

Waling is usually constructedfrom two spread U-steel sectionswith their webs beingperpendicularly positioned towardsthe sheet pile. Therefore it can be

Reinforced steel wales aremainly used for anchor walls.Exceptions apply for pile anchorageand compensational structures foruneven sheet pile constructions.

In order to achieve thenecessary distance between the twoU-sections, wale spreader consistingof pitched U-steel rods or web platesare welded piecewise on the pile. The grade of spreading depends onthe diameter and incline of theanchorage. It is necessary to allowfor a sufficient spreading in order tokeep the anchor rods away from thewaling.

Heavy anchorage as well as incase of direct connection betweenanchorage and wale, reinforcingbracing of the wale U-section at theanchorage is essential.

Supplied waling parts are muchlonger than the distances betweeneach anchorage. Splices arepositioned at the places with the leaststress. An entire diameter splice isnot necessary although the

calculated internal forces must stillbe covered. Proper splices areusually realised through attached U-sections which are delivered readyfor installation with necessaryboreholes.

Wale sections for the splice areonly finished at one side. The otherside must be adjusted on-site.Welded splices do not require properadjustment if they are staggered andstructurally fully connected.

    3.3 Wale mounting

The waling must be connected withthe sheet pile (main pile) so thatoccurring forces can be properlydiverted. In order to facilitate theinstallation and the diversion of verticalforces, wales are borne byappropriately dimensioned and weldedsupports.

These usually consist of cut or burned,

plates although other variations are alsopossible.

If the workspace is limited belowthe waling, a suspension on the sheetpile is constructed. The suspensionsare either welded onto the waling orattached to the base plate of thewaling. A small mounting angle isadditionally welded onto the sheet pile.

Bar shear connectors for the diversion of axial forces Common connection to anchor wall

The LARSSEN waling bolts areable to absorb vertical and horizontalforces; a special wale support is notnecessary. Internal wales (tensionwale) must be carefully attached tothe sheet pile.

In order to divert horizontalforces to the waling, and to alignthe wall, strong wale bolts arenecessary. (min. 11/2). Sufficientdimensioning is also necessary with

splice spacing in a lotic zone aswell as in case of corrosion risk. Inorder to render waling bolts suitablefor wall alignment, they must be ofsufficient length. There are two bolttypes: Bolts with upset hexagon head, and bolts with double-sided thread.

The wale bolts are locatedwithin the wale sections web anddivert the loads to the base plates. There is, on the one hand, the frontplate in the sheet pile recess(HOESCH piles consist of two partsdue to the interlock at the pileback), and on the other hand, theback plate at the waling.Waling can be screwed or weldedonto the bottom backside of the sheetpile for the diversion of axial forces.

However, this may also be realisedby means of bar shear connectorswhich are welded onto the wale andare supported by the sheet pile web.

In the case of anchor walls, the connection is usually carriedout through the waling which islocated behind the wall(compressive wale). Walemounting is not necessary for staticreasons. It is sufficient to positionthe wales on waling supports.

Mooring facilities include single-bitt bollards, cross bollards, recessbollards (reinforced concrete walls),dolphins, chocks, pad eyes etc.Their construction should alloweasy repair and replacement.

Single-bitt bollards on top ofthe quay wall can be constructed aseither single or double bollardsaccording to the necessary bollardforces. Their diameter must exceed15cm. They are made of high-qualitycast iron or cast steel and fitted withS355 J2G3 (St 52-3) anchorage parts.

They can either be structurallyattached to the beam, or behindsuch, anchored in a concretefoundation. Depending ondimensioning, a rear anchorage maybe necessary. In order to prevent asheet pile overload due to extremerope stress, retractile anchors, whichare conform to nominal load, may beconsidered.
