ASDAN Bronze / Silver Award and ASDAN CoPE What is the difference between the two?
ASDAN BRONZE / SILVER AWARD ASDAN - CoPE
1 Is normally done during year 9 at your High School.
Is normally done during years 10 and 11 at LC.
2 Is a certificate of achievement Is a GCSE equivalent qualification. Level 1 = GCSE E grade Level 2 = GCSE B grade
3 6 credits are needed for Bronze 12 credits are needed for Silver
12 credits are needed for level 1 and level 2. (6 of these can be from you r Bronze or Silver Award). The other 6 MUST be from the CoPE book.
4 Are assessed in the key skills of WWO, IOLP, PS, IT, NUM, LIT
Are assessed in 6 areas – WWO, IOLP, PS, R, D, OP.
5 Have to complete at least 3 Action Plan and Reviews
Have to complete a Plan, Do and Review for the 6 assessed areas, either at level 1 or level2.
ASDAN CoPE You need to complete 12 credits (120 hours).
6 of these can be from Bronze / Silver Award.
The 12 credits will be gained during 10 and 11.
At the end of year 11 you will have gained either a Level 1 (GCSE E) or Level 2 (GCSE B).
This all depends on how hard you work during years 10 and 11.
To work at level 2, you will show that you are able to work more independently.
ASDAN CoPE Your 12 credits are gained by completing ‘challenges’.
These challenges are put into 12 different areas, called modules.
We will choose some of the modules that you complete and you will also choose some of your own.
WHAT ARE THE MODULES? The modules that you will take your challenges from are similar to the ones used for the
Bronze / Silver Award. The ones that we will choose for you are highlighted in red: 1. Communication 2. Citizenship and Community 3. Sport and Leisure 4. Independent Living 5. The Environment 6. Vocational Preparation 7. Health and Fitness 8. Work Related Learning and Enterprise 9. Science and Technology 10. International Links 11. Expressive Arts 12. Beliefs and Values
The 12 Modules Your 12 credits will be taken from some (not all) of the
modules.
Each module is made up of 3 sections: A, B and C.
If you are working at Level 1 (GCSE E) your challenges will can be taken from Section A, B or C.
If you are working at Level 2 (GCSE B) your challenges will be taken from Sections B and C.
Example of a challenge Module 3: Sport and Leisure
Challenge: 3A4 – Show that you have taken part in at least TWO indoor activities over an agreed period of time and met agreed targets. (Level 1)
Challenge: 3B2 – Take an organisational role in one of the following: (Level 2)
Running a sporting competition
Coaching / Umpiring
Assessment SIX of your CHALLENGES will be put forward to be
assessed. The rest of your work will back this up.
These SIX challenges will show that you have:
Worked With Others (WWO)
Improved your Own Learning and Performance (IOLP)
Solved a Problem (PS)
Had a group Discussion
Carried out a piece of Research
Presented a piece of work to a small group of people
Organising your work You will be responsible for looking after and
organising your work
You will keep a port folio of your work
When you have completed 12 challenges, your folder will be sent off to be moderated.
It is essential that your folder is:
Well presented
Organised
Neat
Where will you complete your challenges Many of the ASDAN CoPE challenges are of a practical
nature. So, in order to complete your challenges you will:
Carry out some work in and around Lutterworth
Go on a small number of trips
Complete some challenges in your own time
Complete challenges in the classroom
Where you will complete your challenges and examples of the challenges you will complete.

In the classroom
Module 1 - Communication Give an illustrated talk about a topic of interest to a group of people and answer any questions
On the school campus Module 4 – Independent Living Manage a garden over a period of time
At the school’s Enterprise Centre Module 1 - Communication As part of a group, entertain a number of people to tea or coffee
Who is best suited to taking ASDAN CoPE at Lutterworth College? If you are able to take responsibility for planning and
organising your own work.
Be willing to complete challenges that are new to you.
To be able to work well independently and with others.
If you have taken ASDAN in year 9.
The Value of ASDAN CoPE It is a qualification.
Is equivalent to a GCSE E or B.
Is well recognised by Employers, Colleges and Universities.
Will help you to develop a range of skills.
