EVERY THURSDAY IN MAY!

3:00 PM on Channel 98 Make sure you have a NEW pink card! Keep it and use it each week! Need a card? Pick one up at the front desk.

Thanks to all of you who participated in the 2020 Christmas Fund Drive. We not only reached $130,000 but exceeded it! On December 4, we gave $131,185 to the two hundred fifty-four hourly employees who have served on all of the Alexian campuses (Assisted Living, Memory Care, the Health and Rehabilitation Center, Independent Living, the Valley, and the Grove). Employee gifts ranged from $65 to $770. We hope that your “thank you” will make these very difficult times a little easier for those who have done so much for us. We also want to acknowledge Al and Marge’s help in preparing the gifts this year. Any monies not spent, of course, continue to be in the Christmas Fund account and will help start next year’s effort. And - see the “thank you“ board in the in-house mailroom The Christmas Fund Committee: Beth Craig, Ann Foltz, Susan Kelloes, Noel Workman

The plans for the reorganization of the AVT Library are taking shape; there are copies of that available in the Library , on the Librarian’s desk. If you are interested - or interested in seeing what the ideas are - please sign a copy out to study. We will be having our first meeting on January 16 in the Gold Room - our meeting will follow the Book Club session, which starts at 2 PM and usually lasts about an hour. We welcome anyone who wants to help in this endeavor - the Library you save may be your own! The new books we added in January have both new authors and old friends. In the Fiction category, we’ve added two new authors for the AVT Library collection. The first is Brit Bennett’s “The Vanishing Half” -which is the story of light-skinned Black twins who run away at age 16 and go very different paths which ultimately lead them back together. Sigrid Nunez’s “The Friend” was praised by the New York Times - and our own SML Librarian - as it provides a world of insight into death, grief and love. Carla Buckley and Jude Deveraux, of course, need

no introduction - and neither do the mystery writers Frederich Forsyth, Lisa Gardner, John Grisham, and Alexander McCall Smith. The non-fiction entry, “The Library Book” has been recognized by the New York Times and several book clubs, as a tribute to libraries - and it even has a plot and a story! We hope that you will enjoy these books and also will share suggestions with us. - Ann Foltz, Acting Library Manager

The Scholarship Committee continues to be grateful to all who

have supported us, even with pandemic stresses and Christmas gift

-giving. And, due to the pandemic changes in college and university offerings, you may be

seeing more of our scholarship recipients serving in the Evergreen Room. Although we are

sorry that their courses of study have been so disrupted, I’m sure that you will agree that it

is a treat to see them and to catch up on their progress.

That progress has been supported by the following contributions, which were received in

November and early December :

In Memory of: Nancy Davis, from Beth Craig

Jane McCurdy, from Beth Craig

For Birthdays: Al Kent and Bettie and Ray Washington

Unspecified from: Lois and Gene Maio

January 6, 2021 marks Three Kings Day, or Epiphany. In most Christian cultures, Epiphany marks when the three wise men arrived to visit Jesus after his birth. This day is typically when the holiday season is considered concluded. Many people who celebrate Three Kings Day will take down their holiday decorations on this day. The Feast of Epiphany may vary from country to country but the story is always the same; this date celebrates the visit of the Wise Men to the infant Jesus. How much do you know about the story?

1. In which Bible Gospel is the story of the Wise Men mentioned?

2. How many Wise men are there traditionally supposed to have been?

3. What other names are given to the Wise Men?

4. Can you name a Christmas carol in honour of the Wise Men?

5. Which King ruled at the time the Wise men visited Jesus?

6. What did King Herod say to the Magi?

7. Can you name the Wise Men?

8. What guided the Magi to Bethlehem?

9. How did the Magi get to Bethlehem?

10. What gifts did the Magi present to baby Jesus?

11. What is Myrrh?

12. Who were the Wise Men?

13. How many kings are mentioned in Gospel’s story?

14. What is the significance of Epiphany for Catholics?

15. What is Frankincense?

16. What was the significance of Gold as a gift?

17. Which Magi is said to have come from Africa?

18. What color was Balthasar’s cloak?
