Nobody can say that 2010 was just another year. Indeed the past year has provided an interesting backdrop for the travel industry. Amadeus delivers financial results for the first nine months of 2010

Amadeus’ commissioned research reveals key drivers for profitability

Strong growth continues across both Distribution and IT Solutions businesses

Adjusted net profit for the period increased 30.1% to reach €354.6m. This was backed by a growth in revenue of 12.1% to €2,053.6m and an

improvement in EBITDA of 16.9% to €816.6m.

Consolidated net financial debt on 30 September 2010 was €2,700.3m

(based on covenants’ definition). This represented 2.7x last twelve months’

EBITDA, and was down by €588.2m vs. December 2009.

Both the Distribution and IT Solutions businesses have played a role in the

company’s positive performance figures during the year-to-date. Revenue in

the Distribution area increased by 10.2%, rising from €1,387.6m to €1,528.9m. Total bookings increased by 7.7%, up from 314.2m to 338.6m.

Amadeus also maintained its global leadership position in market share of travel agency air bookings during the first nine months of 2010.

The IT Solutions business continued its growth record by increasing revenue 19.3% during the period, from €383.2m to €457.1m. Passengers

Boarded (PBs) increased by 58.0% in the same period, rising from 171.3m to 270.6m as contracted airline migrations were completed successfully.

Year-to-date highlights (nine months ended 30 September 2010) Adjusted net profit for the period increased 30.1%

Revenue grew 12.1%

EBITDA rose 16.9%

Amadeus and Hermes Management Consulting, a world leading business consultancy, have released the results of an in-depth study entitled “Understanding Online Travel Agencies’ Cost Drivers and Ways to Optimise Business in Europe”.

The aim of this study was to provide a better understanding of the operational cost structure of Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) and to identify opportunities to optimise their performance. The main conclusion was that although the European online players have improved and are closing the gap with their US counterparts, there is still room for improvement in terms of efficiency and yield of product mix.

The study was conducted with the sample of five online mid-sized travel agencies from Scandinavia, France, Germany and the Netherlands. The report also identifies 4 key drivers to improve the efficiency of the studied European online players and to increase profitability:Revenue Diversification: cross selling non-air Improved shopping experienceAutomation Marketing costs

“European online agents have shown resilience in the last couple of years, increasing their revenues year-on-year despite the tough economic downturn. They now need to move a step forward to transform this positive trend into revenue opportunities,” explains Stéphane Durand, Director, Online and Leisure, Amadeus.

Eductour, NICEIn an effort to further strengthen the business relations and

to develop our partnership with our top Travel Agencies, ASC

Additional airlines choose Amadeus’ technology to distribute Travel Guard travel insurance productsEtihad Airways, Hong Kong Airlines and Kenya Airways will benefit from additional revenue streams by using Amadeus e-Retail to offer Travel Guard insurance products

Air France, KLM and their partners successfully complete migration to Amadeus’ Altéa Inventory System

We are glad to inform you that Air Arabia

and Jazeera Airways are now available in

Amadeus e-Power ( Travel fusion Content )

This content is available only for Amadeus

e-Power portals using LCC Module. For

more information on

Amadeus and Travel Guard, a world-leading

travel insurance and assistance company,

have been selected to supply real-time travel

insurance content, product availability and

booking functionality through the direct

booking channels of Etihad Airways, Hong

Kong Airlines and Kenya Airways.

The combination of Amadeus’ technological

expertise and extensive airline and agency

distribution network and Travel Guard’s

comprehensive portfolio of travel insurance

products and wide array of emergency

medical, travel and personal assistance

services, presents a winning value proposition

for airlines by way

of accessibility

to and delivery

of the best travel

insurance content

and booking functionality in the industry.

According to Bob Gallagher, chief marketing

officer at Travel Guard Worldwide, “travel

insurance is an extremely valuable customer

service feature and competitive cross-sell

opportunity for any airline. The offer of

travel insurance at the time of the air ticket

purchase not only provides a benefit to the

customer, it also represents an attractive

revenue stream for the airlines. We are

pleased to be an Amadeus partner and travel

product supplier that is fully integrated in

the Amadeus e-Retail engine and Altéa Call

Center platform. Collectively, we bring a

simple, cost-effective yet world class travel

insurance solution to airline clients.”

For the online traveller, booking travel

insurance through Amadeus e-Retail is

both fast and simple. The intuitive booking

process pulls the relevant passenger and trip

details from the airline segment, proposes

the appropriate travel insurance policy, and

calculates the insurance premium value.

Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and

Amadeus announced the group’s successful

migration to Amadeus’ Altéa Inventory

solution.

The migration sees the replacement of the

two legacy systems that have served each

airline for the last forty years and marks

a major step in the group’s initiative to

modernise and consolidate its Passenger

Service System.

Fully integrated with Altéa Reservation, the

common airline group’s reservation system,

Altéa Inventory allows Air France-KLM to

benefit from unique capabilities such as

real-time seat availability across all direct

and indirect channels including online

distributors, and to take advantage of the

most advanced revenue management

techniques.

The project was a major undertaking over

several years that delivered noteworthy

improvements to the Amadeus platform

such as availability cascading, full support

of journey data and enhanced automated

flight re-accommodation and schedule

management. With nearly two million

flights involved as part of the process and

with more than fifty systems impacted, the

migration was especially significant. Indeed,

it required two critical system cutovers in

only two weeks where Air France and its

franchisee airlines (Regional, Brit Air, City

Jet, VLM and CCM) plus KLM and its partner

airlines (Kenya Airways and Martinair) were

transitioned to the Amadeus platform.

4 Market Trends

Amadeus unveils new revenue maximisation solution with key customer signings

Amadeus and Concur deliver integrated corporate travel and expense management solution

• ‘Active Valuation’ enables Amadeus’ Altéa Inventory customers to maximise revenues by applying sophisticated business rules

• TAM, Lufthansa, Air Baltic, Singapore Airlines and Etihad all sign agreements with Amadeus

Amadeus announces the launch of ‘Active

Valuation’; a new IT solution that enables

airlines to maximise revenues across multiple

channels. A host of major airlines including

Lufthansa, Air Baltic, Singapore Airlines, TAM

and Etihad are also today announced as

‘Active Valuation’ contracted customers.

‘Active Valuation’ works by enabling the

application of sophisticated business logic

to dynamically adjust the yield (revenue

expected) of an airline product, according

to the context in which a booking is made.

These yield modifiers are used in a seamless

manner in order to perform an origin and

destination (O&D) calculation. This allows a

dynamic segmentation of customers, taking

into consideration their characteristics,

the point-of-sale used and any connecting

flight data, in order to better capture their

willingness-to-pay.

At the same time, ‘Active Valuation’ can also

be used to incorporate cost considerations

into the availability decision process, for

example costs related to the sales channel

or to any fuel surcharges that may be

applicable. In addition, this allows the airline

to consider the indirect contribution of a

given customer, such as loyalty, and the

contribution to the network by looking at

return trip criteria.

The new solution is designed to complement

Amadeus’ existing ‘Revenue Availability’

solution which has already been implemented

by more than 10 airlines worldwide including

Air France-KLM, Lufthansa and Austrian

Airlines. ‘Revenue Availability’ works by

allowing an airline to intelligently optimise

its inventory in order to generate maximum

return on a booking. For example, when a

customer requests availability information

for a multi-leg journey, the solution

automatically considers the complete value of

the trip and delivers appropriate availability

information to the customer.

Amadeus and Concur (Nasdaq: CNQR),

a leading provider of on-demand travel

and expense management services,

announced that they will be showcasing

the new integrated corporate travel and

expense claim solution, Amadeus eTravel

Management (AeTM) integrated with

Concur’s expense solution, at the ACTE

Global Education Conference in Berlin.

The integrated solution can be requested

immediately though Amadeus and Concur

reseller partners or direct sales teams.

With technology from Amadeus and

Concur now tightly integrated together,

organisations have a tool that provides

worldwide content, with an intuitive end-

to-end travel booking and expense claim

solution that helps improve control, drive

compliance and increase productivity. With

the synchronisation of travel bookings from

AeTM into Concur, customers will have a full

view of what was planned versus what was

actually spent. The two companies are also

delivering the integration of Amadeus core

distribution technology into Concur’s own

travel booking technology.

“Innovative companies are always looking for

better ways to help their clients drive down

costs and increase policy compliance,” said

Barry Padgett, Concur’s General Manager of

European Operations. “Concur and Amadeus

are two industry leaders that have done

the hard work of truly integrating their

offerings in a meaningful way to drive real

value for their clients. The result is an end-

to-end travel and expense management

solution that meets the needs of our joint

clients in Europe and around the globe.”

As a joint effort to educate the Travel Market with the new companion fare, ASC and

KAC have held sessions to bring the Market up to date with the new functional entries.

The sessions were held at ASC from the 29th of October until the 3rd of November. We

would like to thank all who attended and hope what you learned can in handy.

Amadeus launches a fully customisable car rental booking engine for online players

Amadeus set to transform hospitality industry with launch of groundbreaking ‘Amadeus Hotel Platform’

Amadeus rolls out a brand new, cutting-

edge booking solution for online players,

using Amadeus Cars Plus XML technology.

Cars Plus XML business logic streamlines

the messages from Amadeus Web Services,

making it easier for online players to offer

a comprehensive range of functionalities

to their customers including: map display,

matrix view and point of reference

searches.

Launch partner Transhotel, a global

consolidator of hotels and services for the

travel agency community, chose Amadeus

Cars to integrate a new cars module on

their web portal, “with Amadeus Car Plus

technology, we were able to implement

exciting functionalities and easily customise

the booking flow so that it fits transparently

with our own ‘look and feel’. The Amadeus

XML technology also integrates perfectly

with our existing IT infrastructure including

back office, payment solution and mark-up

functionality,’’ commented Javier Sancho,

Transhotel’s Contracting & Product Director.

“After testing the new product in the

Spanish market, the application will be

available for all the travel agents that work

with Transhotel worldwide”.

• Amadeus Hotel Platform to drive business transformation by giving hotel chains the tools to build brand value, modernise operations, increase revenues and reduce costs

Amadeus announces the launch of Amadeus Hotel Platform, a centralised above-property solution that is set to transform the way hotels do business.

Built around one comprehensive database, and available as a ‘Software as a Service model’ (SaaS), it combines central reservation, property management and global distribution systems into one fully integrated platform. Offering a single and real-time view of the entire business, Amadeus Hotel Platform enables hoteliers to deliver innovative and new guest services, generate additional revenues and also quickly react to market changes as new trends, behaviours and demands emerge.

Amadeus Hotel Platform represents a revolution in hospitality IT and distribution which will enable hotel companies to evolve and adapt to continuing changes in the sector. Based on unique open technology architecture, Amadeus Hotel Platform allows hoteliers to concentrate on their business, and not the supporting technology, by

bringing operational improvements at all levels whilst removing technical barriers to global expansion.

In conjunction with the launch, Amadeus today also reveals the findings from a major new industry report entitled ‘Hotels 2020: Beyond Segmentation’ http://www.amadeus.com/hotelit/beyond-segmentation.html, which identifies the characteristics of the future guest and explores how hotel companies can respond accordingly. Developed by independent research firm Fast Future Research, this breakthrough report outlines how traditional customer segmentation in the hospitality sector is dead

and will be replaced by service spectrums. This radical shift means that hotel companies will need to target, tailor and relate to guests based on their individual preferences and behaviors if they are to succeed.

All Amadeus Hotel IT solutions are based on open technology and industry standards, allowing hotel companies to benefit from continual technology evolution and securing competitive advantage. The launch of Amadeus Hotel Platform, together with reinforced Hotel IT teams based in Europe and in the U.S., demonstrates Amadeus’ commitment to the global hospitality industry.

solution, which is already available for

traditional travel agencies using Amadeus

Selling Platform and now for online players

and airlines via the e-Retail XML set of
