‘Duty to Manage’ Complying with

Regulation 4

This training is intended for anyone who is required to comply with the Duty to Manage under Reg. 4 of CAR 2006. The content includes general asbestos awareness, current legislation including Reg. 4, survey techniques, and risk assessment, amongst other topics. Reg. 4 requires duty-holders to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises, and:

Assess whether premises may contain ACMs; Assess the risks from any asbestos identified;

and Take action to manage the risk from asbestos

This training day is intended for anyone responsible for inspecting premises with a view to assessing the condition of any asbestos-containing materials. The aim of the course is to provide an under- standing of asbestos survey reports, their content and any sampling results, for those personnel who do not necessarily require a formal qualification.

Asbestos Awareness

for Scaffolding Operatives, Supervisors

and Managers

(Duration 1-day)

This training is intended for scaffolding personnel who may be required to work in areas where asbestos is present. The training course covers the required modules contained in Chapter 4 of HSG 247 Asbestos: The Licensed Contractors’ Guide. All staff levels must complete a half-day awareness training course covering Modules 20-22 and supervisors/managers and directors must complete a further half-day training which covers Module 23: Management systems to meet the required 1 day minimum training requirements. Full personal decontamination training is also an HSE requirement.

This training is intended for reception staff, administrators, customer service personnel, housing officers and managers, estate team personnel, or anyone who has to provide answers to questions from the general public and others, concerning asbestos materials in buildings. The training provides information on the handling of asbestos-related queries and ways to respond to concerns about asbestos in an informed way.

Safe handling of asbestos waste

(including fly-tipped waste)

(Duration 1-day)

This training is intended for groups of personnel who may be required to handle asbestos waste on a regular basis, and/or deal with emergency spillage or clean–up illegally dumped asbestos waste materials. When undertaking this work it’s important for all personnel to comply with the requirements of CAR 2006 to prevent and reduce exposure to asbestos.

The programme deals with site safety procedures, emergency procedures, safe handling of asbestos waste, including fly-tipped waste, recommended equipment, RPE/PPE and personal decontamination.

Dealing with fire-damaged buildings

This asbestos awareness training course is intended for anyone who has to assess the risks from clearing fire-damaged asbestos containing materials from buildings. The aim of this training course is to demonstrate how to deal with an asbestos incident; explain the characteristics of asbestos materials; the risks associated with different asbestos fibres; the behaviour of ACMs during fires in buildings and the precautions to be taken during damping down. CCNSG* Safety Passport

The CCNSG Safety Passport training programme is monitored and controlled by a national steering group known as the Client/Contractor National Safety Group (CCNSG) who are there to ensure that standards are being maintained and that the content of the training programme continues to meet current safety legislation and current safety practices After successfully completing a two-day course individuals will be awarded a ‘Safety Passport’ which is then valid for three years. PASMA Accredited

training

The Work at Height Regulations 2005, require that the assembly, dismantling or alteration of Mobile Access Towers should only be undertaken by a competent person, or if being trained, under the supervision of a competent person.

Via our qualified training partners, full classroom and practical training is given that meets all current PASMA requirements. The PASMA Certificate is then valid for 5 years. The Course content, instructors and training delivery are subject to a rigorous assessment to ensure compliance with PASMA standards

This training course can include the supply of a mobile tower, if required.

IPAF Accredited Training

The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 places a duty on the employer to provide an adequate level of training to allow employees to operate equipment safely and competently.

IPAF training is accredited by the countries leading bodies and via our qualified training partners, full classroom and practical training is given that meets all current IPAF requirements. The IPAF Certificate is valid for 5-years and can cover the safe use and operation of a MEWP (mobile elevated work platform) Scissor lift and/or Boom.

BOHS P402 Building Surveys & Bulk Sampling proficiency module is the minimum recognised qualification required to undertake Asbestos surveys. The BOHS P402 provides the background and practical knowledge required for surveying buildings for asbestos and the taking of any bulk samples.

Content of the BOHS P402 syllabus: Introduction and legislative requirements 5%; Asbestos in buildings 45%; Bulk sampling 15%; Practical work 35%

The BOHS P406 Module provides the trainee with the practical knowledge and skills to be able to act as Supervisory Licence Holder during an asbestos removal project. This training is also suitable for Managers and Directors and meets all the training requirements listed in Chapter 4 of HSG 247.

The BOHS P407 Module provides the practical knowledge and the skills to be able to manage asbestos in premises and to provide a basic knowledge of asbestos management plans, policies and procedures, their implementation and checks on effectiveness. The course includes a 1 hour 30 minute short answer question paper and the submission of an acceptable management plan, or a critical review of a management plan, to BOHS within six months. Content of the BOHS syllabus: Legislation - 20%. Use of Asbestos, types and characteristics 10%, Management of Asbestos in premises - 60%. Controlling work on the fabric of the building or services – 10%.

The BOHS S301 module includes ‘P’ certs P401 through to P405. The course is fast-paced and full of information. Those who already have some previous experience with polarised light microscopy and/or asbestos identification will benefit most from this course. The BOHS examination consists of two papers - total duration 2 hours 15 minutes. Paper A - 40 short answer questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Each question is worth a total of 4 marks. Paper B – 5 micro essays from a choice of 8 to be answered in approximately 45 minutes. Each micro essay question is worth a total of 20 marks.
