ASA380 Course Overview

Course OverviewThe intention is to deliver the ASA380 course modularized and fitting to the needs of projectmanagers and team leads based upon ASAP project phases and work streams.

Target AudienceThis course is intended for the following audiences:

• SAP Project Managers:

– The Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of a projectthroughout its lifecycle. They are responsible for defining, planning, tracking andmanaging the project, for identifying key resources and providing the directionthey require in order to meet project objectives. The Project Manager providesleadership to cross-functional teams responsible for delivering defined projectoutputs to time, budget and project quality criteria. They also ensure adherence toproject management methodology practices, provide team coaching, evaluate theperformance of team members and reinforce the enterprise knowledge managementthrough the collection and communication of lessons learned.

• SAP Team Lead:

– They are responsible for defining, planning, tracking and managing their respectivesub-project, for identifying key resources and providing the direction they requirein order to meet defined objectives.

Course PrerequisitesRequired Knowledge

• (or equivalent proficiency in the following areas):

– SMI310 - SAP Solution Manager: Implementation Tools in Detail.– OCM100 – Organizational Change Management Fundamentals.– VM100 - Value Management.– Project Management Fundamentals or similar Project Management course based on

PMI PMBOK industry standard.– E2E040 SAP Operational Standards.

• This course is intended to be an advanced training of the ASAP Methodology forImplementation, focusing on the Project Management and project team lead point ofview. We recommend the participants to attend courses listed on this slide that provideknowledge needed to understand key concepts presented in this class. At minimumthe attendees should:

– Have good knowledge of project management concepts from Project ManagementInstitute Project Management Body Of Knowledge (PMI PMBOK).

Unit 1Introduction to ASAP Methodology for

ImplementationUnit OverviewIn this module we will focus on providing an overview of the ASAP Methodology forImplementation. We will start with the outline of the rationale for the methodology, its benefitsand then we will proceed to discuss the taxonomy of the methodology with special attention tothe structure of the information you can find in ASAP.

We will start with discussing the rationale for turning ASAP into a prescriptive methodology tosupport the new way of delivering SAP Solution with SAP Advanced Delivery Management.Then we will go briefly through the evolution of ASAP to demonstrate the focus on leanimplementation projects with drive for time to value and fast realization of benefits. We willthen proceed to discuss the key use cases for the ASAP Methodology ranging from standarddesign-based ASAP projects, through Agile implementations to Assembled-to-Order projects.Then we will focus on key improvements in ASAP 8, methodology taxonomy and how toaccess the methodology.

Unit OverviewIn this unit we‘ll focus on the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) Work Stream in thedifferent phases of an SAP implementation project.

First we will introduce the SAP Best Practice-thinking with regards to Application LifecycleManagement and then look at the purpose and the key deliverables of the ALMWork Stream inthe ASAP Methodology. Then, we will discuss ALM-related tasks in implementation projectphases. The third chapter deals with ALM in the Operate phase. Finally, some additionalinformation will be provided as we complete this module.

Unit 3Project Management (PM)

Unit OverviewIn this unit we‘ll focus on the Project Management (PM) Work Stream in the different phasesof an SAP implementation project.

First we will introduce the Project Management Work Stream from a general overviewperspective, describe its purpose and the key deliverables across all ASAP phases. Then, inchapters 2, 3 and 4 we will cover

• PM deliverables related to initiating standard ASAP projects, all applicable to the ProjectPreparation phase.

• Recurring PM deliverables across All ASAP phases,• And PM deliverables relevant for the planning of future steps, applicable to Go Live

Support and Operate phases.

Chapter 5 deals with Agile ASAP, first introducing agile concepts from a general perspectiveand then explaining the differences between standard ASAP and Agile ASAP. Agile ASAP isonly explained as part of the PM work stream lesson of this course about ASAP Methodologyfor Implementation in Detail as all "agile only "deliverables and tasks are assigned to thePM work stream. But as we will see later, some tasks part of deliverables of the workstream Training, Value Management, Business Process Management and Technical SolutionManagement are also defined as AGILE ASAP relevant and therefore influenced by how theproject management is executed. Finally, some additional information will be provided aswe complete this module.

Some additionalinformation will also be provided as we complete this module.

We‘ll start at a high level, discussing the purpose and deliverablesof the Training Work Stream. In addition, we will provide some general training-relatedinformation for the project manager.

Unit 8Business Process Management (BPM)

Unit OverviewIn this unit we‘ll focus on the Business Process Management work stream in the differentphases of an SAP implementation project. Some of the main deliverables being the creationof the Blueprint document, the Solution Transformation Design and following realizationof all solution components, being it SAP Core applications, enhancements or SOA-basedcomposite applications.

The first chapter gives an overview of the Business Process Management (BPM) work stream;the second chapter gives some more information about the BPM approach. The followingchapters, 3 to 5, describe the Business Process Management (BPM) deliverables within thesephases of the ASAP methodology. The last chapter includes a BPM summary and links toadditional material that can be accessed to further your understanding of Business ProcessManagement (BPM).

Some of the main deliverables being the creation of the Blueprint document, the SolutionTransformation Design and following realization of all solution components, being it SAPCore applications, enhancements or SOA-based composite applications.
