My product uses a masthead on the front cover, this is a convention often used in real products. When researching other magazines I found they all have a masthead on the front cover
which gives the identity to the magazine. For this reason I added a masthead to the top left corner of my magazine naming it “Glamourous POP.” While I used an existing convention I also changed the spelling of the masthead to “Glamourous” which is the incorrect way to spell glamorous, this makes the magazine
appeal to a younger audience as it is unique.

I placed a barcode and price in the bottom right corner of
the front cover of the magazine. This is an already used
convention which informs the reader/audience how much they
need to pay for the product but also makes each issue unique
as they will all have a different code. The price for the
magazine is £3.99; this was the most frequent answer when I
carried out a questionnaire asking how much readers would
pay for the magazine. I think this is a realistic price because
there is a lot of content in the magazine and it will be
published every fortnight.

The product has a strapline “Get Glamourous” not only does this make the magazine look better and unique, it also encourages the
reader to buy the magazine inspiring the reader to becoming more “Glamourous”.

MastheadIs big and bold, it gains the readers attention and illustrating it’s importance
TypographyThe font is bold and clear to read, the size of the text is not too this is because they use the hypodermic needle theory which allows you to use small amounts of text which engages a younger audience
LayoutThe layout is quite similar to other magazine, the cover lines are on either side of the main image. The text on the left side is smaller but bold because of the white and red background its on. On the right side the text is bigger and opposite to the other side it’s bright coloured text on a black background whereas on the other side it’s black text on the bright coloured background

My music magazine represents younger social groups this is because the majority of current artists are young people who are attracted younger audience. I think my product
attracts a range of different social groups this is because there are artist wearing hoodies which attracts a ‘cooler’
group however there are also “Glamourous” artists to attract and represent a more mature, respectful and girly social
group so the magazine does not rule out or stereotype people which is why there is such a wide target audience.

The photos I took were all edited so there was no background, this was done to show a similarity between the different groups. Also I included two different photos of
the same artist but taken wearing different clothing, on the front page she is wearing a hoodie which represent being
more casual which targets a different group compared with the image of the artist used on the double page spread
where she is wearing a dress.

The institute I think will distribute my product is Bauer media this is because they are a well-known media Institute and have a wide range of readers. Bauer Media have a lot of experience in distributing magazines
and a very good reputation which will increase the number of readers the magazine will get.

Bauer Media have several different multi-platform media like print, digital, radio, TV. Print houses and more. In 2013 they had an
approximate total revenue of 2.4 billion euros.
Another reason Bauer media are the kind of institution that may distribute my product is because they have a wide genre of music
magazines how ever they only have one other pop magazine so they are in need of a number of pop magazine to engage a younger audience. By
distributing my product not only will the magazine benefit but the institute will to as they will interest a wider audience and gain more readers.

The audience demographic for my music magazine is females in the age range between 10-20. This is because Pop music is generally
listened to by girls in the age range.

Although my target audience is for females in the age range of 10 to 18 I will also add features to my magazine to interest people at this range this is because there are some people who listen to Pop but won't do not fit these categories. To do this I will add different artists in each of the issues I will have special features including older artists to interests an older audience and to make it more unique. There will be all aspects of the magazine from example
fashion and entertainment to engage in a wider audience.

I will attract my target audience by using the hypodermic needle theory, I will not use their text and information of this will not increase my
target audience instead I'll be small amounts of text in larger size I will use lots of pictures and use bright colours as these are all features which attract a younger audience. I used images of young upcoming
artists so the target audience can relate and feel inspired. I made my cover lines so they hook the audience by using phrases like “Sneak Peak” and “Win” as these are phrases which will attract my target audience.

Another way in which I will attract my target audience is by asking the readers what they would like to see, for example before making the
magazine I did a questionnaire to see what readers would like to see in the magazine. From the results of the questionnaire the product includes
a double page spread with a Q&A interview of an upcoming artist.

Other ways in which I have acquired the attention of the audience is through the title and cover line of the magazine, the term “Glamourous” is what not only young but older girls want to be and they will be inspired to
update their look from the magazine. A similar way I have attracted a wide range of reader is by using two different images of the same artist, the images attract different audiences creating a wider audience for the
magazine.

In the process of making the product I are used variety of different software’s for different reasons. I began making/designing the product on Microsoft Word however I soon changed Microsoft publisher as it allowed you to do more with images, text and the layout. I used Serif draw plus to edit the images, this was better to use for images then Microsoft because it allows you to cut around images and put them in
plain background.

Although Serif was better than Microsoft, it was not as good as Photoshop, the image edited on Photoshop was for the main image on the double page spread. The image that was edited on Photoshop had
softer edges which gave a more professional finish to the image whereas the images edited on serif were less neat and professional
looking. Blogger was another software which I had not previously used, this was useful as it was efficient and work could be kept together
however, I had difficulties uploading certain documents and PowerPoints which was a hassle. BlogSpot was useful for images but not for PowerPoints which meant I had to upload PowerPoint on Slide
Share and embed the link into BlogSpot which took a while to do correctly.

While making my preliminary magazine I spent a lot of time changing software from Word to PowerPoint so when it came to making the final
product I knew which one was better and easier to use. Although I feel if I used Photoshop in the preliminary task it would have been easier to use it in the final product because I spent quite a lot of time while making the final
product learning how to use it which made it a longer process and only one of the images could've been could be edited on that as everything had already
been done.

After having done the preliminary task and then research into the music magazines I have a better understanding of different codes and conventions I have my more experience using different software is I can now apply the different theories on my products and I know different media institutions.
