*AS Media Evaluation

* ConventionsThis is the nine frames that I selected from my front cover, contents and double page spread.Looking at the masthead 'MNG' I think that it is very similar to other popular music magazines such Q and NME. The main similarity is that both mastheads are shot and snappy and they are both written with bright colours so they stand out to their audience. The major sell line in my magazine is ‘WORLD EXCLUSIVE!’ and this is a sell line that will get any audience to read a magazine because they believe that they will only find the news in this magazine. I have minor sell lines in my magazine which are about the world wide music award show the brit awards and even though this is a minor sell line this will still attract readers because it gains a worldwide interest. The main article in my magazine is taken from the perspective of an interview which has a mixture of both formal and informal language, the font I used was Myriad Pro I used this font for the fact it is extremely plain and easy to read even in the font size I used which was size 8. throughout my whole magazine I used three colours which was white, blue and yellow. To maintain the exact colours I copied the colour codes from each section so the exact colour was matched. The picture I had took to match with my main article was took in quite a dark area and I tried to get a full body shot in. Most of my magazine was full so their wasn’t much dead space at all as I tried to use all of the space I had.

*Social Group Representation

*My magazine is aimed at teenagers/young adults and this is portrayed in most of the images and competitions etc… My magazine is based around VIBE which is also aimed at R&B fans and teenagers etc… The magazine below is what I tried to base my magazine on because this magazine will attract a more teen audience

*Distribution Institution

*To publish my magazine I would use VIBE lifestyle network as I think they would publish to the target audience of my magazine and offer it future success. They will know exactly what techniques to use and how to create online promotion e.g. interactive magazines and websites etc…

*Audience

*The gender I would approach my magazine would be both men and women but I think it would be more marketed to men. Again it would be marketed to teenagers and young adults who have an interest in r&b. The social class woulb be C/B and possibly A. the fan base would be pop, dance and R&B.

*Attracting the audience

*Both models in these two magazines share a similar pose which attracts the target audiences'' eye. The pose shows confidence and strength this is what will mainly attract the audience, as this is what the younger generation aspires for. I think my front cover will attract the audience for its sell lines, e.g. the ‘WORLD EXCLUSIVE!’

*Technology used in construction

* I have learnt how to take a variety of pictures and pick the best one out of them pages of my magazine. I had to decide which of my pictures would suit which cover, from the front cover, contents page and the double page spread. I had to make sure the levels on the picture were right e.g. colour, stauration, brightness etc… and to make sure these would be able to match the page correctly and didn’t look odd, I also learnt how to edit my photos again to the photo didn’t look out of place, I learnt how to crop out the background of my picture to enable the background image didn't disturb my magazine. The biggest thing I have learnt is how to use Photoshop in general, after making a magazine I am much more comfortable with using it as I do find it a very professional piece of software to use. I have learnt the conventions of a magazine and know what it takes to make a magazine, a magazine. I now know how to write articles and make it suitable for a magazine, and link it with a music genre. I used Facebook to access pictures that my friend on that we had took, but I already had knowledge on how to use that software. I used the models camera, which I was aware of how to use and I also used the college computers to put together my magazine.

*Progression form the preliminary

task.

*When I first done my preliminary task I was unfamiliar with Photoshop so I found it very difficult to construct a magazine (as shown to the left) . Since then I found that Photoshop was much better and easier than expected to use as I bought the software myself for personal use. I'm more confident using the tools such as the cropping tool, effects and the text tool. These tools have made my final magazine look more professional and appealing for my audience. Also the layers are easy to use as they help just focus on one frame of my magazine instead of interfering with the rest. The shape tool was also helpful as it made neat shapes that I used for my magazine cover and contents page. Overall, I'm more confident with using Photoshop and it has helped make my magazine look much more professional professional.
