“Have A Heart – Fill the

Cart” Food Bank Fundraiser

Last week three students, Han-

nah Cramb, Sidney Elliot and

Catherine Forsythe, came up

with a plan to help out our local Food

Bank around Valentine’s Day. The “Have

A Heart – Fill the Cart” Fundraiser en-

couraged students to bring in cans and non

-perishable food items. They organized a

classroom competition and decided that

the class bringing in the most items would

win an extra PE period! Close to 400

items of food came in! The winning class

was Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Banks’ Grade 6

class with over 100 items.

Powell River Kings

and Reading Heroes

Throughout the school

year we have been very fortunate

to have two members of the Pow-

ell River Kings come to our

school and read with a variety of

different students on Monday

mornings. Jordan Benton and

Matt Joyaux have been excep-

tional role models for our stu-

dents. On behalf of all of us at

Grief Point, we want to thank

them and wish them all the best in

the future. Next week on Thurs-

day, February 28th our PR Kings’

Reading Heroes program will

come to an end with Catch a King

Reading. A bulletin board in the

front of the school has been set up

with clues to a couple of books.

Based on the clues, students need

to try and figure what the books

are. On Thursday at lunch they

are to scour the playground and

try and find one of the Powell

River Kings reading that book!

They can enter a draw for some

wonderful prizes. We would like

to thank the Powell River Kings

Hockey Club, the Powell River

Literacy Council and First Insur-

ance for providing these wonder-

ful opportunities for our students!

R.I.P. Clifford Clifford, our beloved guinea

pig who lived in Ms. Taylor’s Kindergarten

class for the past seven years, peacefully

passed away last weekend in his sleep. A lot

of our students have fond memories of little

Clifford, some even took him home over

weekends when they were in Ms. T’s class.

He was a great little guy who will be

missed!

Grade 6 & 7 Basketball Updates

Our Elementary Basketball season is well under

way and both our Girls’ and Boys’ teams are im-

proving each week. As always, we were very happy

with the amount of students who showed an inter-

est in participating. We would like to thank our

parent volunteers who have been coaching our stu-

dents this year.

Our Girls’ Team school sponsor is Mrs. Banks and

our volunteer coaches are Mr. Banks and

Mr. Fontaine.

Our Boys’ Team school sponsor is

Mrs. Lewis and our volunteer coaches are

Mr. Savage and Mr. Cross.
