In this Sundays Gospel, we continue to read from the section of Marks Gospel that reports Jesusjourney to Jerusalem. Last Sunday we heard Jesus lament the par- ticular challenges those with many possessions face in order to enter the Kingdom of God. Jesus then predicts his passion to the Twelve, who are amazed and afraid. In this part of Marks Gospel, Jesuswords to his closest disciples seem to be intend- ed to prepare them for the events that will occur in Jerusalem. In todays Gospel, James and John ask to be given seats of honour when Jesus enters into his glory. Once again, the disciples seem to be selective in what they hear Jesus say. They want to share Jesusglory, but do not appear to under- stand that his glory will be preceded by his suffering. Jesus notes their lack of understanding and predicts the suffering they will en- dure for the sake of the Gos- pel. Jesus says that the hon- our they seek is not his to give. When the other ten hear what James and John have asked, Mark reports RESPONSORIAL PSALM RESPONSE: Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia, alleluia! The Son of Man came to serve and to give his life as a ransom for all. Alleluia! that they are indignant. Jesus takes the opportunity to teach them. Jesus ex- plains the importance of service and sacrifice in the life of a disciple. In par- ticular, he seems to be preparing the Twelve for their leadership roles in the emerging Christian community. Echo- ing the Gospel we heard several weeks ago (on the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Mark 9:33-37), Jesus acknowledg- es that his teaching is countercultural. In todays Gospel, Jesus contrasts the dynamics within the community of disciples with those shown by the rul- ers of the Gentiles. Following Jesusexample of sacrificial love continues to be countercultural in our day as well. We might take this opportunity to con- sider our models of authority and ex- amine our own exercise of authority. On whose example do we model our leadership? PLEASE NOTE Due to the current government restricons, all parishioners will need to wear a mask during Mass, singing is not allowed and 4sqm rule applies. THERE WILL BE NO MASSES CELEBRATED WITH A CONGREGATION IN THE DIOCESE OF WAGGA WAGGA FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS (11/10/2125/10/21)

THE PARISH OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA STH WAGGA

AND ST PATRICK’S URANQUINTY TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, 17 OCTOBER 2021

The Catholic community of Our Lady of Fatima, in line with government

regulations, can now celebrate Mass with a limit of 90 people.

Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish acknowledge the Wiradjuri people, the traditional custodians who have walked upon and cared for

this land for thousands of years. We acknowledge the continued deep spiritual attachment and relationship of Aboriginal and Torres

Strait Islander peoples to this country and commit ourselves to the ongoing journey of reconciliation.

May we too be good stewards of this land.

READINGS FOR

NEXT WEEKEND

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

First: Jer 31:7-9

Second: Heb 5:1-6

Gospel: Mk 10:46-52

THOUGHT

Mistakes are

proof that you

are trying.

In this Sunday’s Gospel, we continue to read from the section of Mark’s Gospel that reports Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem. Last Sunday we heard Jesus lament the par-ticular challenges those with many possessions face in order to enter the Kingdom of God. Jesus then predicts his passion to the Twelve, who are amazed and afraid. In this part of Mark’s Gospel, Jesus’ words to his closest

disciples seem to be intend-ed to prepare them for the events that will occur in Jerusalem. In today’s Gospel, James and John ask to be given seats of honour when Jesus enters into his glory. Once again, the disciples seem to be selective in what they hear Jesus say. They want to share Jesus’ glory, but do not appear to under-stand that his glory will be preceded by his suffering. Jesus notes their lack of understanding and predicts the suffering they will en-dure for the sake of the Gos-pel. Jesus says that the hon-our they seek is not his to give. When the other ten hear what James and John have asked, Mark reports

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

RESPONSE: Lord, let your mercy be on

us, as we place our trust in you.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Alleluia, alleluia! The Son of Man came to

serve and to give his life as a ransom for

all. Alleluia!

that they are indignant. Jesus takes the opportunity to teach them. Jesus ex-plains the importance of service and sacrifice in the life of a disciple. In par-ticular, he seems to be preparing the Twelve for their leadership roles in the emerging Christian community. Echo-ing the Gospel we heard several weeks ago (on the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Mark 9:33-37), Jesus acknowledg-es that his teaching is countercultural. In today’s Gospel, Jesus contrasts the dynamics within the community of disciples with those shown by the rul-ers of the Gentiles. Following Jesus’ example of sacrificial love continues to be countercultural in our day as well. PLEASE NOTE Due to the current government restrictions, all parishioners will need to wear a

mask during Mass, singing is not allowed and 4sqm rule applies.

THERE WILL BE NO MASSES CELEBRATED WITH A CONGREGATION IN THE DIOCESE OF WAGGA WAGGA FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS (11/10/21—25/10/21)

receive the newsletter, please send us their

email address.

Also, please let us know if there are

elderly, or shut-in parishioners, who may

need a friendly call from their

Parish Priest.

Let Us Imitate Jesus.

Let us imitate Jesus: He goes

to the streets, not planning for the poor or

the sick or disabled people that he crosses

along the way; but with the first one he en-

counters, he stops, becoming a presence of

care, a sign of the closeness of God who is

goodness, providence, and love.

Reflection: Are you willing to stop what you

are doing in order to help others? Are you

open to random acts of mercy no matter how

small they might be? Imitate Jesus’ willing-

ness to be interrupted.

Volunteer in Australia and Overseas The Cagliero Project, Salesians of Don Bosco

We are seeking long term (6-12 month) volun-teers for January 2022 to work with young people in our Salesian communities in Australia. When it is possible and safe to do so, we will recommence sending volunteers to work with disadvantaged young people in Salesian communities in Samoa, Cambodia, Timor Leste & the Solomon Islands. Applications close October 30th. Send us an inquiry - www.cagliero.org.au

NO MASSES 11TH OCTOBER TO 25TH OCTOBER

After receiving advice, I have decided that it is too

onerous to ask parishes to monitor and imple-

ment compliance in respect to vaccination status.

Further, excluding some Catholics from worship

has the potential to cause long lasting upset and

division. Thus, given the brief duration of this

regulation, I have taken the grave and sad deci-

sion to direct that in the Diocese of Wagga Wagga

there will be no public or ‘private’ Masses with a

congregation taking place and that our churches

will close between Monday 11 October and Sun-

day 24 October inclusive.

As a way of celebrating our unity in Christ, on Sunday 17 October and again on Sunday 24 Octo-ber, in the diocese there will be one live-streamed Mass from the Cathedral at 9am on YouTube. Please use this link for those Masses

https://youtu.be/vFxmX1ui16A

Bishop Mark Edwards

There will be no recording of Masses in our church for these two Sundays

Synod of Bishops

On Sunday, October 17, dioceses around the world will launch local preparations for the Synod of Bishops, which has the theme: “For a Synodal Church: Commun-ion, Participation and Mission”. The Catholic Church in Australia will invite the People of God to make submis-sions via an online portal that will open on October 17. Those submissions will help the Bishops develop a na-tional report to support the global process leading to an international gathering in 2023.
