AS 9100 - Aerospace

• AS 9100, was originally released in 1999 and revised in 2001 to align with the ISO 9001:2000 Standard format, is the international ISO 9001 derivative for companies supplying to the aerospace industry. AS 9100 takes the ISO 9001:2000 QMS Standard covering every step and department of the manufacturers’ process, and inserts aerospace industry-specific requirements.

• AS 9100 also addresses flow-down of aerospace prime contractors’ Quality Management System requirements to suppliers and their subcontractors. Flow-down includes specifications for parts or assembly designs, characteristics, inspections, and other process functions and product features.

Government agencies, such as the Defense Department, Transport Canada, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the U.S., also support AS 9100, to the point of being mandatory in some cases, though companies still have to meet additional federal requirements.
