COTTON – meeting your skin’s highest functional requirements.
COTTON, the medical compression stocking with cotton from SIGVARIS, brings the feeling of soft cotton on the skin in addition to its precisely defi ned pressure.
The natural properties of cotton make COTTON particularly well tolerated by the skin and provide for greater comfort and well-being.
What’s special:
The exclusive cotton yarn used in COTTON is fi nished on the inside of the stocking and lies directly on the skin – so COTTON is a perfect fi t for women and men with particularly sensitive skin.
See for yourself – nature in its most beautiful form!

Benefi cial effects of the knitted compression fabric
Compression knitted fabric
Skin
The cotton fabric absorbs excess moisture and sweat directly from the skin.
Moisture absorptionMoisture is absorbed in the cotton:• reduced bacterial growth• no damp feeling
Evaporative coolingEvaporation of moisture accumulated in the cotton:• cooling effect• ideal wearing comfort in warm temperatures
Thermal insulationAir in the spaces of the knitted fabric and fi bres isolates effectively against cold weather.

Natural fi bre cotton absorbs sweat
The cotton fabric absorbs excess mois-ture and sweat directly from the skin and stores these inside the fi bre (see Fig. 1).
This way, a fi lm of moisture on the skin, which promotes unwanted bacterial growth, cannot develop (see Fig. 2). An advantage for patients with sensitive skin.
In a GfK study with patients, the acceptance of COTTON was confi rmed with outstanding results.1

Rapid drying due to low cotton content. 2
COTTON has aimed to have a very low cotton content of only 14%. This enables the rapid evaporation of moisture from the knitted fabric. The Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) assessed among other things the drying properties in a sweat test. COTTON was compared to a competitor’s compression stocking with a high cotton content (see Fig. 3).
Result: COTTON dries twice as fast as the comparison product.

14% cotton is in direct contact with the skin.
The cotton is processed exclusively as covered inlaid thread on the inside of the stocking. SIGVARIS uses valuable Swiss Supima extra-long pile cotton, a particularly fi ne and smooth yarn. This makes COTTON pleasant to wear and particularly suited to sensitive skin.
Due to the low cotton content, moisture evaporates rapidly, the durability and robustness that a compression stocking needs thus remains fully preserved thanks to the high content of high-quality, synthetic functional fi bres.

Good patient acceptance – Results of a GfK study 3
3 Results of a GfK study with a total of 82 people conducted in 2010
In a GfK study, COTTON was tested in compression class 2 by 82 people, of whom the majority already had more than 2 years’ experience with compression therapy. The test subjects wore COTTON for 14 days.
Test question A: How satisfi ed were you overall with the compression stocking you tested during the last 2 weeks?
Response A: Very high overall satisfaction
Test question B: Suppose for the next prescription of compression stockings, you had the chance to choose for your-self. How likely is it that you would choose the compression stockings you have been wearing for the past 2 weeks?
Response B: Very high willingness to purchase
very satisfi ed satisfi ed neither satisfi ed nor dissatisfi ed less satisfi ed not satisfi ed at all
I would certainly choose them I would probably choose them I don’t know if I would choose them or not I would probably not choose them I would defi nitely not choose them
