7.4 Electrical Engineering Department

The electrical engineering department was established in 1978 withelectrical engineering as sole discipline enrolling three years full technician certificate course (FTC) Students up to 2004. The department startedimplementing market driven, modular, and competence based education and training (CBET) system as from July2005 to date replacing formersystem.CBET, a three year course is focusedon learningoutcomes thatdemonstrate competencies in knowledge and practical skills that are career or task oriented, leading graduates toNational TechnicalAwards(NTA)namelyNTALevel4 (BasicTechnicianCertificate),NTALevel5(TechnicianCertificate)andNTAlevel6(OrdinaryDiploma).Studentispromotedfromlowerleveltohigherlevelaftersuccessfulcompletiononthat level.

The department introduced Electronics and Telecommunication engineering discipline in 2007 boosting the enrolment of students inelectricalengineeringdepartmentfrom34in2006to64ineachsubsequentacademic year.
