Wednesday 25 March 19.30, Agora Vrijhof [VC]The Klingon Hamlet Machine – URLANDPerformance collective URLAND brings a Dadaistic odeto the Word via Hamlet, Star Trek and Heiner Müller!The existence of “The Klingon Hamlet” was a discovery for URLAND. The iconic primal piece of Shakespeare was translated into Klingon in 1996 (the world’s most successful artificial language from the science-fiction TV series Star Trek). It is an archaic-futuristic bizarrity that stimulates the collective’s imagination. After attending the 25th anniversary of The Klingon Language Institute in Indianapolis, USA, URLAND spontaneously became lovingly extremist and now makes a visual performance about language. URLAND wants to make language tangible: the confusion, the (de) construction, the beauty and the ugliness.

Ze hebben gezinnen en hoge posities, zo op het oog het ideale plaatje. Elke vrijdag komen ze bij elkaar voor een potje poker. Even weg van alles, mannen onder elkaar. Maar op deze avonden wordt ook een ander spel gespeeld; ze hebben seks met elkaar. Tot een van hen op een dag vertelt dat hij besmet is met het gevaarlijke Hepatitis B-virus. We zien het leven van de mannen met hun gezinnen voorbijkomen terwijl ze, met groeiend wantrouwen naar elkaar, erachter proberen te komen wie de bom heeft gelegd onder hun ‘pokerspel’.

Thursday 27 February 19.30, Amphitheater Vrijhof [NL][VC]Halve finalistentournee AKF Sonneveldprijs 2020Na drie intensieve en spannende selectierondespresenteert het Amsterdams Kleinkunst Festival de zes halvefinalisten van 2020!Deze cabaret- en kleinkunsttalenten gaan met hun zelfgeschreven programma’s op tournee. Daarbij worden ze gecoacht door verschillende theatermakers en regisseurs. Vlieguren maken, bijschrijven, schrappen, ontwikkelen en zo nu en dan spreekwoordelijk op je bek gaan. Alles om straks goed voorbereid de ‘Halve Finales’ in Theater Bellevue in Amsterdam te kunnen spelen. Drie van de zes treden op in de Vrijhof; wie weet tref jij vanavond al de winnaar van de AKF Sonneveldprijs 2020!

Theatersport is een vorm van improvisatietheater. Teams van vier personen strijden tegen elkaar om de mooiste, grappigste, beste of ontroerendste scène. Als publiek wordt u gevraagd suggesties te doen en als compliment rozen te werpen, terwijl de immer knorrige rechters streng toezicht houden op het keurige verloop van de wedstrijd. Wednesday 22 April 19.30, Agora Vrijhof [NL][VC]The biggest lawsuit on the planet – Firma MESEen rechtszaak over ons klimaat!Overal ter wereld staan op dit moment jonge mensen op om zich in te zetten voor het klimaat. In Amerika is de zestienjarige Jayden F. al jaren bezig de regering Trump aan te klagen voor de klimaatverandering. Deze rechtszaak, die nog steeds voortduurt en ook wel The Biggest Lawsuit On The Planet wordt genoemd, is het uitgangspunt voor de nieuwe documentaire voorstelling van Firma MES. Met advies van (klimaat)journalist Jelmer Mommers van De Correspondent, onderzoekt Firma MES wat deze en soortgelijke zaken betekenen voor de klimaatproblematiek en voor onszelf. Wat betekent het om een strijd aan te gaan die zoveel groter is dan jij? En wat kunnen wij leren van Jayden F.?

Thursday 9 April 16.30, Small exhibition room VrijhofNooit Weer Nie Wieder –Dutch and German artists In 2020, it will be seventy-five years since the Netherlands was freed from the German occupation. The NOOIT WEER/NIE WIEDER Foundation devised an exhibition of Dutch and German artists to commemorate and celebrate this. The work of these artists on this theme will be on display via banners on public outdoor locations in Delden, Glanerbrug, Gronau and Rheine. The sketch designs of the artists will be on display in the Vrijhof.

Monday 4 May 19.30, Big exhibition room VrijhofAKI BIO MATTERs – AKI student as researchersAKI BIO MATTERs is an artistic research program that focuses on working with new biomaterials where art and design meet life science, philosophy, politics, ecology, bioethics, and DIY. It explores the methods of how to face with the uncertainty and the radical openness of what life might become – the vibrating materialities of multi-bodies – waste, dirt, air, animals, rhizomes, meat, viruses, plants and microbes, in short: matter that matters.

Thursday 6 February 16.30, Big exhibition room VrijhofThe energy of art – Elze van den Akker and Mari GirkelidseThere are methods to calculate the price of an artwork, this has to do with size of the work and fame of an artist, very little with the real afford and energy artists put in their work. In this project of Elze and Mari they quantify the energy they spend while making their art. Using smartphone applications and, very important: paying attention to their own sensation whilst making! Are there influences of the weather or if they slept well noticeable in the artworks? The artworks as well as the artists findings will be part of this exhibition.

It is also possible to exhibit your photos. In the first part of the course the focus will be on the practice. Surrounded by shoulder, chest, hip and pelvic isolations, the belly steals the show. This made Europeans name it ‘belly dance’ more than 200 years ago when they first encountered this dance. Huib Modderkolk is onderzoeksjournalist bij de Volks-krant en onderzocht zes jaar de schaduwkanten van het net. Over zijn ontdekkingen schreef hij het boek Het is oorlog, maar niemand die het ziet. Op basis van ver-wachtingen maakt het vast pijnstillende of rustgevende stofjes aan: het zogenaamde placebo-effect. Daarom kan je hoofdpijn ook verdwijnen als je slechts een nep-medicijn krijgt. Professor Andrea Evers onderzoekt hoe artsen deze placebo werking slim in kunnen zetten om patiënten sneller te genezen. Evers ontving in 2019 de Stevinpremie voor haar onderzoek naar placebo.
